So I&#39;m following [this guide here to create a Github page][1]

I created a repository, cloned it to my project directory and pushed, finally got to this last step:

    Fire up a browser and go to http://username.github.io. Give it a couple of minutes for your page to show up—there will be a delay this very first time. In the future, changes will show up pretty much instantly.

My Github repo link is this:

So I assumed my Github page link would be either:&lt;br/&gt;
http://leongaban.gabanco.github.io/

or

http://leongaban.github.io/

However neither link is working at the moment :(

Anyone create a Github page before? Eventually I want to try out Jekyll on it.

I am using Jekyll as a static generator for a website (not a blog), and I want to have an automatically generated list of all pages on my index page. Specifically, I want to have different categories and list all articles in each category separately. [Here&#39;s](http://www.gwern.net/) an example of what I&#39;m describing, if you&#39;re having trouble following. Is there any way to do this in Jekyll (e.g. GitHub pages)? So I am trying to get a **custom domain to work with my github pages** user site. I have followed pretty much the standard procedure for doing this as follows: (recommended by github here too: **https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-an-apex-domain-and-www-subdomain/**). Note I need both the apex domain (example.com) and the www subdomain (www.example.com) to resolve to my github pages user site at username.github.io (the website itself is a **jekyll based blog** and I have checked that it compiles successfully before I started this process)

1. I added an **A record** to my DNS records at the registrar pointing to all of the four IP addresses provided by Github from the apex domain example.com: 
- 185.199.108.153
- 185.199.109.153
- 185.199.110.153
- 185.199.111.153 
2. Next I went in and added a **CNAME record for the www** sub domain pointing to username.github.io
3. And then I finally enabled the custom domain example.com under the settings tab of the repository (under Github Pages &gt; Custom Domain), and also enabled the **Enforce HTTPS** option after it was enabled within about an hour.

I have tried contacting my registrar and they said that everything in the DNS record seem fine and they get the following results: 

A records : 

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.111.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.109.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.110.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.108.153

CNAME : 

www.example.com.        7199    IN      CNAME  username.github.io.

As expected.

But I still get the following error in github (under the settings tab of the repository): 

&quot;**Domain does not resolve to the GitHub Pages server. For more information, see https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages/.**&quot;

And when I try to access the site by typing either example.com or www.example.com, the browser redirects to https://example.com/ and I get the error (on Chrome):

**ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED**
  
Note that there is a warning on the documentation by github saying:

**Warning: If your domain has HTTPS enforcement enabled, GitHub Pages&#39; servers will not automatically route redirects. You must configure www subdomain and root domain redirects with your domain registrar.**

I have no idea how to get around this. I suspect this is the possible cause of the issue. So a solution might be to circumvent this redirection, I just do not know how I would do this.

I&#39;m more of a novice when it comes to advanced operations in git. I maintain my [blog](http://jatinganhotra.com) using the blogging framework [Octopress](http://octopress.org/). Though Octopress is not under any development since 2011, it serves my purpose well and so I haven&#39;t thought of changing anything so far.

FYI, my blog is hosted on Github Pages.  

Today, while working on a new post, `git status` showed the following message:

    On branch source
    Your branch is based on &#39;origin/master&#39;, but the upstream is gone.
      (use &quot;git branch --unset-upstream&quot; to fixup)

The same message repeated for all the subsequent commands such as `git add .`, `git commit -m &#39;message&#39;` and `git push origin source`.  

 - What does the message mean?  
 - Is something broken?  
 - If yes, what?  
 - Do I need to fix it? 

If possible, please point me to a pdf/web article where I can read up on this and understand it for future.

Why call git branch --unset-upstream to fixup?

Using [GitHub&#39;s Release feature](https://github.com/blog/1547-release-your-software), it is possible to provide a link to download a specific version of the published software. However, every time a release is made, the gh-page also needs to be updated.

However, when I go to http://maltzj.github.io/posts/the-price-of-inconsistent-code I get a 404. I also added a new file which should live at http://maltz.github.io/test.html, but that also throws a 404.

Everything builds and runs locally. My Git repository is up to date, and there is nothing on the GitHub status page about problems with builds, so I&#39;m at a little bit of a loss about where to go with this. How can I get my page to update with new content that I add?

How to publish .php page instead of .html at github to demo some php content?

I have a project together with several people and we have a `README.md` file with a bunch of GitHub Flavored Markdown that is rendered on our GitHub page. We also set up a GitHub Pages branch which is hosted under our GitHub Organization&#39;s subdomain, and used the [**Automatic Page Generator**][1] simply loading in our `README.md` file when we created our page. However, I notice that when I update our `README.md` file, it does not update the project page. Instead, we must go to the GitHub settings tab and recreate the project page, reloading the `README.md` file when we do it. 

Also, after reading about [**relative linking**][2] working between documentation files on the GitHub project directory pages. I very much like the markdown as it saves tons of time from having to write all the HTML out by hand for our documentation. What I would like however is to be able to have one `README.md` file which is able to include relative links to other documentation files located at `docs/*.md`. I was hoping there was an easy solution so that my other documentation files might also be included in my gh-pages branch and be hosted under my GitHub Pages subdomain and be rendered and/or themed.

In other words, my questions are:

* Is there a way to have my README.md file automatically update on my Github Page subdomain?
 - **[ EDIT ] :** No appears to be the answer if using the Automatic Page Generator. You must go to the settings page for the repo and reload it every time there is a change in order to update it.  
&amp;nbsp;
* Is there a way I can have my relative links to my documentation on my README.md file work on my Github Pages, perhaps my somehow syncing my `/docs/*.md` to my Github Pages and somehow rendering and/or theming them?
 - **[ EDIT ] :** From what I&#39;ve learned since writing this question it appears that this is only possible on GitHub pages through the use of a [**static site generator**][3] like the ruby gem [**Jekyll**][4] and probably some uses of the [**webhooks supported by GitHub**][5] that are mentioned in the comments below. How can I sync documentation with Github Pages?

I have hosted a single static HTML page using GitHub Pages. I need to add a &quot;Send Feedback&quot; feature to my static page where a user can type in his name, email, comments and click the SUBMIT button. This will send an email with the contents to my email address. Can this somehow work in a static HTML page on GitHub? Does GitHub Pages support this mailing feature?  

I also want to know what features/plugins etc can GitHub Pages server support based on the underlying web server it uses?

I want to have one user page and multiple project pages hosted by [GitHub Pages](http://help.github.com/pages) but available under **ONE** custom domain (with subdomains for each GitHub Pages repository, of course). So my goals are as follows:

* One user page (&lt;http://florianwolters.github.com&gt;) available under &lt;http://blog.florianwolters.de&gt;, &lt;http://www.florianwolters.de&gt; and &lt;http://florianwolters.de&gt;.
* As many project pages as I wish (e.g. &lt;http://florianwolters.github.com/pear&gt; available under &lt;http://pear.florianwolters.de&gt;.

As of my current understanding, GitHub Pages do only allow **ONE** CNAME resource record for a page (both user pages and project pages) defined in the `CNAME` file in the root of a Git repository.
I already tried out many things (playing around with DNS records and header redirects at my domain provider [EUserv](http://euserv.com), but I can only access my GitHub user pages under one URL (&lt;http://blog.florianwolters.de&gt;). I am aware that DNS changes can take up until two days.

Can somebody explain to me, how I can achieve the goals described above? I can not believe that this is not possible but I am also no expert for DNS, etc.

If the above is not possible: What is your suggested workaround? I do want to access all my GitHub pages under one domain (and the subdomains of that domain).

What is the best way to solve url strategy migration?

I found the best practice in common is create htaccess like so

    Redirect 301 /programovani/2010/04/git-co-to-je-a-co-s-tim/ /2010/04/05/git-co-to-je-a-co-s-tim.html

But it does not seems to work with Github. Another solution i found is create rake task, which will generate redirection pages. But since it&#39;s an html, it&#39;s not able to send `301` head, so SE crawlers will not recognize it as an redirection.

I&#39;ve recently switched over to using Jekyll on Github Pages for my various blogs, and love that I can just push Markdown to Github and they handle the processing. Why does my GitHub page do not update its content?

I&#39;m developing a jQuery plugin that&#39;s being hosting on GitHub. It has a demo included of which I&#39;m manually copying and pushing to the branch `gh-pages`, what I&#39;d like to do is have it so when I push a change to `master` it is automatically pushed to `gh-pages`, or at least a setup where they are mirrored.

I&#39;ve already seen this [question][1] but not sure if it really answers my question with regard to these requirements:

 1. I use [Tower][2], I don&#39;t mind using the terminal (Mac) to make changes to config, so long as the solution works with this GUI.
 2. I only want this &#39;mirroring&#39; on certain repos, not on all of them on my machine.

This file was commited 14 days ago. But I don&#39;t plan these files so frequent. So I need to make much bigger max-age value and change Last-Modified value to last commited date.

Is it possible to change headers of Github pages?

I have a fork of a small open sourced library that I&#39;m working on github.  I&#39;d like to make it available to other developers via maven, but I don&#39;t want to run my own Nexus server, and because it&#39;s a fork I can&#39;t easily deploy it to oss.sonatype.org.

What I&#39;d like to do is to deploy it to github so that others can access it using maven.  What&#39;s the best way to do this?


Hosting a Maven repository on github

There&#39;s a `gh-pages` branch to hold the project documentation, which is basically the project website: https://github.com/n1k0/casperjs/tree/gh-pages

This branch setups the documentation site at http://n1k0.github.com/casperjs/ — hurray.

In the meanwhile, I&#39;ve bough the `casperjs.org` domain to get this website available through it, so I put a `CNAME` file as [recommended in the docs](http://pages.github.com/#custom_domains): https://github.com/n1k0/casperjs/blob/gh-pages/CNAME — in their example, the operation is supposed to *create redirects from www.example.com and charlie.github.com to example.com*…

While the website now points to http://casperjs.org/, there&#39;s no 301 redirect from http://n1k0.github.com/casperjs/ (the old site url) to the new domain name.

Any idea how to setup such a redirect, if it&#39;s even possible? Is it a bug? If it is, where should I open an issue?
