I just made a failed attempt to put unicode in Github markdown (in a README.md file) in my project.

I tried this:

    (U+262E)

but it was not interpreted as unicode. Is there a way to put unicode characters in Github markdown?

I&#39;d like the table to display in the center of my Markdown file instead of left-aligned. I am not trying to align text, but the entire table itself. Do I need to resort to HTML/CSS to achieve what I want?

Is there a way to create a URL anchor, `&lt;a&gt;`, link from within a Markdown file, to another file within the same repository and branch (aka a link relative to the current branch)?

For example, in the master branch I have a README.md file, which I would like do something like:

    # My Project
    is really really cool. My Project has a subdir named myLib, see below.

    ## myLib documentation
    see documentation [here](myLib/README.md)

This would allow me to link from one .md to another within the same branch and not have to worry about which branch I&#39;m in (avoid having to do an absolute URL that includes the github.com branch name).

Here is a working example of what I mean:

 1. GOTO http://github.com/rynop/testRel, link does not work.
 2. GOTO http://github.com/rynop/testRel/blob/master/README.md, link works.

This is expected because at this point the starting URL is in the branch. Now how do I get it to pick up the current branch in the README.md at the root of the repository?

Can one create a list (bullets, numbered or not) inside a markdown table.

A table looks like this:

    | Tables        | Are           | Cool  |
    | ------------- |:-------------:| -----:|
    | col 3 is      | right-aligned | $1600 |

    | zebra stripes | are neat      |    $1 |

A list looks like this:

    * one
    * two

Can I merge them somehow?

Recently I joined **GitHub**. I hosted some projects there.

I need to include some images in my README File. I don&#39;t know how to do that.

I searched about this, but all I got was some links which tell me to &quot;host images on web and specify the image path in README.md file&quot;.

Can I merge table rows in markdown

I need to document a library on GitHub that output colored text in the terminal.

I&#39;ve tried both span `&lt;style=&quot;color:red&quot;&gt;` and `&lt;font color=&quot;red&quot;&gt;`, but it seems to strip out both tags.

Is the only way to do this is with images of colored text?

I am able to draw checkbox in Github README.md lists using

But this is not working in table. Does anybody know how to implement checkbox or checkmark in GitHub Markdown table?

How to make a styled Markdown admonition box in a GitHub Gist?

I&#39;m trying to make text which is either *invisible until moused over*, or, *has a &quot;show&quot; / &quot;hide&quot; button*, or some other thing, so that it is not visible until the user interacts with it in some way.

I&#39;m trying to do this on a github wiki page. (Specifically it&#39;s for a short self-quiz.)

Basically I want to get a similar effect to what SO achieves with the `&gt;!` markup:

The same markup doesn&#39;t work in github, I guess that it&#39;s an SO extension?

I saw [this issue][3] about using spoiler text in *comments* on github, which was closed, but I thought there might be a different answer for the wiki pages, or a different solution based on HTML or something?

Does anyone know if there&#39;s a way to do this, or if it is definitely unfortunately impossible?

I have some working markdown:

Which creates:

I would like to wrap that markdown section in a div, eg:

However this returns the following HTML:

I&#39;m wondering if there is a command line utility for taking a [GitHub flavored Markdown][1] file and rendering it to HTML.

I&#39;m using a GitHub wiki to create website content. I&#39;ve cloned the repository on my server and would then like to process it into regular HTML. It&#39;s important to me that what appears on GitHub is exactly how it should look for my website. I&#39;d also really like to use the fenced blocks with `~~~`, so I&#39;d rather not use standard Markdown syntax only.

I&#39;ve looked a bit into the JavaScript live preview thinking I could hook it into Node.js, but they say it is deprecated. I&#39;ve looked at the redcarpet repository, but it doesn&#39;t look like it has a command line interface.

I rolled my own solution, however, since no solution here is clearly better than the others, I&#39;ll leave the question without a selected answer.

On a GitHub wiki page, if I type:

    www.foobar.com

GitHub automatically assumes this is a URL and makes the text a hyperlink to http://www.foobar.com. However, sometimes I do not want a hyperlink to be created. Is there a way to stop this behavior? Perhaps some sort of markdown?

I am putting together some documentation in Github flavoured Markdown and I want to put together a table that has two rows. One with simply text and one with a json code block. Heres an example.

I&#39;ve been learning github markdown, I had a question about variables and macros.

is it possible to define a variable or macro to prevent repeated printing of a block of text? 

The use case is that I have a table producing a big grid of hyperlinks - the links look like the below.

it would be nice if I could do something like the below once:

    $link=http://www.a-big-long-big-big-long-hyperlink/more-long-stuff?id

and then in each cell in the table, I can say something like

    $link=1234

Some other cell

    $link=2345

the idea being that:

 - The table (which has ~10 columns and ~10 rows) is a bit easier to see on a normal screen, at the moment with the prefix to the links being so long, it looks really ugly as the links wrap to the next line
 - If I want to change the root link, I can change it in one place (yes, I know I could do search and replace in an editor!)
