I have front matter for pages that I&#39;d like to look like this:

In Liquid, the links section of YAML comes through as:

I&#39;d like to be able to iterate over the array, doing something like this:

    &lt;a href=&quot;{{ link.value }}&quot;&gt;{{ link.key }}&lt;/a&gt;

But any ideas I&#39;ve had so far have failed me.

Jekyll display posts by category

I&#39;m trying to implement a service catalog in Jekyll, in which each of 20 or 30 pages will contain a 7x2 table.  The left column will hold labels, e.g. Overview, Available To, etc, while the right column will hold between one line and several paragraphs of text.  I was hoping to characterize the right column with Liquid variables, e.g. {overview}, {availableTo}

I&#39;ve noticed that the YAML seems to be very picky about line breaks, and accordingly I&#39;ve had to input these paragraphs and their markup on one line which can go on for several screen-widths.  This is a problem because it&#39;s annoying, and also because I&#39;d like these front-matters to be editable by technical but non-webdev users.  Is there a way to have the front matter tolerate breaks?

Alternatively, is there a way that I could populate this table with the {content} section, without having to recode the table into it each time?

I am using Jekyll as a static generator for a website (not a blog), and I want to have an automatically generated list of all pages on my index page. Specifically, I want to have different categories and list all articles in each category separately. [Here&#39;s](http://www.gwern.net/) an example of what I&#39;m describing, if you&#39;re having trouble following. Is there any way to do this in Jekyll (e.g. GitHub pages)? I&#39;ve seen the [variables documentation page](http://jekyllrb.com/docs/variables/) but that seems specific to the blog post format.

So I am trying to get a **custom domain to work with my github pages** user site. I have followed pretty much the standard procedure for doing this as follows: (recommended by github here too: **https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-an-apex-domain-and-www-subdomain/**). Note I need both the apex domain (example.com) and the www subdomain (www.example.com) to resolve to my github pages user site at username.github.io (the website itself is a **jekyll based blog** and I have checked that it compiles successfully before I started this process)

1. I added an **A record** to my DNS records at the registrar pointing to all of the four IP addresses provided by Github from the apex domain example.com: 
- 185.199.108.153
- 185.199.109.153
- 185.199.110.153
- 185.199.111.153 
2. Next I went in and added a **CNAME record for the www** sub domain pointing to username.github.io
3. And then I finally enabled the custom domain example.com under the settings tab of the repository (under Github Pages &gt; Custom Domain), and also enabled the **Enforce HTTPS** option after it was enabled within about an hour.

I have tried contacting my registrar and they said that everything in the DNS record seem fine and they get the following results: 

A records : 

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.111.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.109.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.110.153

 example.com.            21460  IN      A      185.199.108.153

CNAME : 

www.example.com.        7199    IN      CNAME  username.github.io.

As expected.

But I still get the following error in github (under the settings tab of the repository): 

&quot;**Domain does not resolve to the GitHub Pages server. For more information, see https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages/.**&quot;

And when I try to access the site by typing either example.com or www.example.com, the browser redirects to https://example.com/ and I get the error (on Chrome):

**ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED**
  
Note that there is a warning on the documentation by github saying:

**Warning: If your domain has HTTPS enforcement enabled, GitHub Pages&#39; servers will not automatically route redirects. You must configure www subdomain and root domain redirects with your domain registrar.**

I have no idea how to get around this. I suspect this is the possible cause of the issue. So a solution might be to circumvent this redirection, I just do not know how I would do this.

The `active` class handles the coloring. What I want is this class be applied by jekyll depending on some variable set using liquid/YAML.

Is there some easy way to go about this?

Since the bar is common to all the pages, it is now in the default layout. I could go around by using Javascript to detect the url, and do the highlighting but was wondering if there was any way of doing this in Jekyll.

I am trying to get [Jekyll][1] running but I have no experience with Ruby.  
As far as I can tell the installation of Jekyll has succeeded.  
However:

I used `sudo bundle install` and that might be the cause of the issue?

Also, when accessing the folder in which I have my blog `cd my_path` I get the following message:

I&#39;ve no idea how to solve this. I just want to create my static blog and honestly I have no idea about Ruby, Gem or Bundle :) So I would appreciate some insights!

I am hosting a Jekyll Blog on Github and write my posts with Markdown. When I am adding images, I do it the following way:

I&#39;m using Jekyll to create a documentation site wherein I am trying to document some code that contains handlebars-like syntax. For example `{{foo}}`. The problem is that Jekyll uses liquid tags and no matter what I do, my double curlies are getting ripped out by the liquid processor.

By the way, I&#39;m using kramdown as the markdown processor.

Here is something I&#39;ve tried:

    {% highlight html linenos %}
      Hello, my name is {{name}}.
    {% endhighlight %}

This one removes the {{name}} section completely because it thinks it&#39;s a reference to a liquid variable.

I also tried this:

    {% highlight html linenos %}
      Hello, my name is \{\{name\}\}.
    {% endhighlight %}

In this case, I&#39;m trying to escape the curly braces but the result is that the slashes get rendered into the page.

I even tried this:

    {% highlight html linenos %}
      Hello, my name is &lt;span&gt;{&lt;/span&gt;{name}}.
    {% endhighlight %}

Admittedly this one was pretty dumb. In this case, because I&#39;ve specified the syntax as html (which it needs to be), the span tag gets rendered into the page.

So how in the world can I resolve this?


Escaping double curly braces inside a markdown code block in Jekyll

I am trying to add a new post to my Jekyll site, but I cannot see it on the generated pages when I run `jekyll serve`.

 I want the date field to display in the format `12 September 2011`.

I&#39;ve found, through some creative googling, a bit of date-format manipulation, but nothing that seems to get me the month name. What I have is `{{ page.date| date: &quot;%m-%d-%Y&quot; }}`, which gets me output as `09-12-2011`, but isn&#39;t quite what I&#39;m looking for. 

Is there any way to get the month as a name in Jekyll?

Or, barring that, is there any documentation for the date attribute?

How does Jekyll date formatting work?

After using `jekyll serve` on one machine, a WEBrick server is set up and the site can be accessed from `localhost:4000` on this particular PC.

However, I&#39;m wondering how to access this web server from other machines in the LAN, especially for mobile devices? I&#39;m trying to test the jekyll site on mobile devices before pushing the code to Github.

Jekyll was working fine for me few weeks back but now all of a sudden it gives me the following error:

Even though nothing is running on the port. Below are the details:

I know the address isn&#39;t in use and jekyll is probably breaking for some other reason but throwing that error. What are my options? I&#39;ve tried re-installing as well.

My jekyll blog template have links to resources and pages like so:

This works well in deployment, but when I run `jekyll serve` in development, all of the links point to the live page instead of the development page.

I am using github to host a static site and Jekyll to generate it.

I have a menu bar (as `&lt;ul&gt;`) and would like the `&lt;li&gt;` corresponding to the current page to be assigned a different class for CSS highlighting.

So something like pseudo code:

Or perhaps even generate the whole `&lt;ul&gt;` in Jekyll.

How can this be done with minimal changes outside of the offending `&lt;ul&gt;`?

What is the best way to solve url strategy migration?

I found the best practice in common is create htaccess like so

    Redirect 301 /programovani/2010/04/git-co-to-je-a-co-s-tim/ /2010/04/05/git-co-to-je-a-co-s-tim.html

But it does not seems to work with Github. Another solution i found is create rake task, which will generate redirection pages. But since it&#39;s an html, it&#39;s not able to send `301` head, so SE crawlers will not recognize it as an redirection.

What is the best approach for redirection of old pages in Jekyll and GitHub Pages?

I am using `Jekyll` and `Vagrant` on my mac. I found that `Jekyll server` will bind to `0.0.0.0:4000` instead of `127.0.0.1:4000`. Also `gem server` will bind to this address by default. I can still visit it via `http://localhost:port`. But for `Jekyll`, **it seems that the default setting (e.g. 0.0.0.0:4000) requires Internet access. I cannot run `Jekyll server` without Internet.** Is it a  small bug?

I also use `Vagrant`. I have set port forwarding(8080 =&gt; 4000) in Vagrantfile, since I install `Jekyll` in `Vagrant` virtual machine and test it under Macintosh. If I use the default setting (0.0.0.0:4000), it works. I can visit it from my safari with `http://localhost:8080`. But if there is not internet, I cannot bind to 0.0.0.0:4000. I use `jekyll server -H 127.0.0.1` to bind service to `127.0.0.1:4000` instead, then I cannot visit it via `http://localhost:8080`.

Can anyone **explain the difference between 0.0.0.0, 127.0.0.1 and localhost**? And can anyone **explain why the difference will cause this problem**?

I have a Jekyll blog and I want to use MathJax with it, in the sense that I want to be able to type something like

    $$\sum_{n=1}^\infty 1/n^2 = \frac{\pi^2}{6}$$

in my markdown files, and have the correct LaTeX expression generated with MathJax, in a similar way to how it is done at [math.stackexchange](https://gist.github.com/2912921).

What is the easiest way to do this? Currently I have the file [jsmath.js](https://gist.github.com/2912921) (GitHub gist) in my directory, and I thought I could have a simple file named `mathjs` in my `_includes` directory with the line

    &lt;script src=&quot;path/to/jsmath.js&gt;&lt;/script&gt;

and include that in each post via

    {% include mathjs %}

but this doesn&#39;t seem to work - when I run `jekyll --server` the page is generated, but none of the content is visible.

Am I going about this the right way? Is there a better way to use MathJax with Jekyll?

I am using a logic operator in Jekyll but it&#39;s not working.

Page one, two and three all use the same layout (part of a multilingual solution, works good but requires logical loops for some layout control to keep things DRY.)

Here&#39;s the code:

If I break it down to just an `else` and an `if else` setup, with any two of the tree, everything works. But as soon as I use a third condition it breaks. Am I limited to two conditionals with Jekyll? I can potentially restructure to make a `case` operator applicable, but I&#39;d prefer to understand the fundamental problem here. Thanks all.

Is it possible to integrate disqus html comments in a blog using github-pages?  I like the idea of using github, jekyll and markdown to manage my site and blog for simplicity.  However, I&#39;d like to include disqus commenting capability.  However, since markdown generates the html - how do I include the html/js code for disqus ?

I&#39;ve recently switched over to using Jekyll on Github Pages for my various blogs, and love that I can just push Markdown to Github and they handle the processing. I&#39;d like to continue using it this way (rather than running Jekyll locally and just pushing the pre-generated site to Github), since the Github UI makes it easy to add and tweak posts if I&#39;m not at my own machine.

There&#39;s just one thing I haven&#39;t been able to figure out: I can&#39;t get Markdown footnotes working. I&#39;m using this style:

I did find one post (somewhere) that suggested enabling a footnotes extension for the redcarpet markdown processor, but this doesn&#39;t do it either:

Jekyll on Github Pages: any way to add footnotes in Markdown?

I just deploy jekyll in a vps, and config git post-receive hook on it. When I push blog update to vps from my laptop, I run into this error:

    remote: /usr/bin/env: ruby_executable_hooks: No such file or directory
I searched for a while, and tried the method proposed in this post: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/18936933/bundle-update-env-ruby-executable-hooks-no-such-file-or-directory, i.e., executing the commands below:

    rvm @global do gem regenerate_binstubs
    gem regenerate_binstubs
But it doesn&#39;t help, the error remains. Since I&#39;m not familiar with rvm or ruby, could anyone give me a hint?

Using Live Reload with Jekyll

I was wondering how other people are organising their assets for individual posts when using Jekyll. For example, if a post has an image, do you just dump it in a shared images folder? I don&#39;t really like the idea of doing this - it means that an image is completely separated from a post, when I think they should be paired.

I&#39;m constructing a static site (no blog) with Jekyll/Liquid. I want it to have an auto-generated navigation menu that lists all existing pages and highlight the current page. The items should be added to the menu in a particular order. Therefore, I define a `weight` property in the pages&#39; YAML:

The navigation menu is constructed as follows:

I&#39;ve had a lot of problems with my user paths in the past, so I&#39;m wondering if this error could have something to do with that?

Why do I get a &quot;permission denied&quot; error while installing a gem?

On my Jekyll-powered website I have an inclusion that does something function-like, but I can&#39;t figure out how to pass it parameters correctly.

When I use `{% include ... %}`, passing parameters like this..

    {% include function.liquid foo=&quot;{{ baz.quux }}&quot; %}

..it just passes the literal string `{{ baz.quux }}` which is, of course, not what I wanted! I want to pass the value of `baz.quux`. How do I do this?

Passing parameters to inclusion in Liquid templates

I want to describe directory &amp; file structures in some of my Jekyll blog posts, does Markdown provide a neat way of outputting such a thing?

For example, you can see **[at this link](http://jekyllrb.com/docs/structure/)** on the Jekyll website that the directory &amp; file structure is output on the page very neatly:

I believe the line block characters above are Unicode (as described in **[this answer here](https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/118640/write-a-directory-structure-pseudo-code)**), but I am not sure how Markdown or different browsers will handle them. I was hoping that Markdown had included some way of doing this which outputs as the Unicode characters above perhaps.

I just started blogging using jekyll. I write my posts in markdown. Now,  I want to include a youtube video in my post. How can I do this?

Also, I dont really like the pygments highlighting provided by jekyll by default. Is there anyway I can change  this to some other style? If yes, can you point me to some nice styles/plugins?

When calling items from an array in a Liquid template, how do you call `does not contain` or `not in array`?


Does Liquid have a &quot;does not contain&quot; or &quot;not in array&quot; operator?

I&#39;m having some trouble installing jekyll. Can&#39;t quite figure out how to patch the missing link. I think it&#39;s an update to Ruby, but RVM is having trouble installing alternate versions of ruby as well. 

Heres the full post:

Does this mean I need to update the version of ruby I&#39;m using via rvm?

Error Installing Jekyll - Native Extension Build

I am trying to set a `favicon.ico` for my github page, but it doesn&#39;t work. When I serve it locally I see the standard &quot;empty&quot; favicon and when I push it I see the facebook icon. Why is it so? I have the right `favicon.ico` in the root directory of my project and I added the line 

    &lt;link rel=&quot;shortcut icon&quot; type=&quot;image/x-icon&quot; href=&quot;/favicon.ico&quot;&gt;

Unable to set favicon using Jekyll and github pages

[My blog](http://blog.EverCoding.net) is built with Jekyll on Github. In the navigation bar, the default order is Pages, Messages, About, Archives. I want to change the list to Pages, Archives, About, Messages. What should I do?

I think it is related to the code below

I think `site.pages` is what I should change, but I don&#39;t know how.

There&#39;s a `gh-pages` branch to hold the project documentation, which is basically the project website: https://github.com/n1k0/casperjs/tree/gh-pages

This branch setups the documentation site at http://n1k0.github.com/casperjs/ — hurray.

In the meanwhile, I&#39;ve bough the `casperjs.org` domain to get this website available through it, so I put a `CNAME` file as [recommended in the docs](http://pages.github.com/#custom_domains): https://github.com/n1k0/casperjs/blob/gh-pages/CNAME — in their example, the operation is supposed to *create redirects from www.example.com and charlie.github.com to example.com*…

While the website now points to http://casperjs.org/, there&#39;s no 301 redirect from http://n1k0.github.com/casperjs/ (the old site url) to the new domain name.

Any idea how to setup such a redirect, if it&#39;s even possible? Is it a bug? If it is, where should I open an issue?
