For anchors that act like buttons (for example *Questions*, *Tags*, *Users*, etc. which are located on the top of the Stack&amp;nbsp;Overflow page) or tabs, is there a CSS standard way to disable the highlighting effect if the user accidentally selects the text?

I realize that this could be done with JavaScript and a little googling yielded the Mozilla-only `-moz-user-select` option.

Is there a standard-compliant way to accomplish this with CSS, and if not, what is the &quot;best practice&quot; approach?


How to disable text selection highlighting

I have two fragments. The first with buttons inside, the other with a `ListView` inside (ListFragment). 

I would like the first fragment (thanks to its buttons) to allow the user to browse the ListView which is in the second fragment.

So I want the ListView to be controlled by the first fragment with buttons.

I&#39;ve no problem communicating between fragment (sending orders from 1st fragment to the 2nd), but I don&#39;t know how to tell my ListView to select (programmatically) a particular list item.

What kind of ListView should I use and how can I tell the ListView to Select/Highlight/Focus one of its items?

I am in touch mode as the user presses on the buttons of the 1st fragment.

Should I use `setFocusableInTouchMode(true)` or `setChoiceMode(ListView.CHOICE_MODE_SINGLE)` or something else?

In Prototype, there is a method to &quot;flash&quot; an element &amp;mdash; ie. briefly highlight it in another color and have it fade back to normal so that the user&#39;s eye is drawn to it. I am looking for a LaTeX package that does syntax highlighting on code. For example, right now I use the verbatim block to write code:

I experimented a little bit further and this seems to be a feature of Google Chrome. It highlights text on the page if you append `#:~:text=something` to the URL. https://example.com/#:~:text=domain seems to work fine, but only on Chrome (Chrome Beta on the left, Firefox on the right).

What exactly is the `#:~:text=` location hash in an URL?

After doing a search in Vim, I get all the occurrences highlighted. How can I disable that?  I now do another search for something gibberish that can&#39;t be found.

Is there a way to just temporarily disable the highlight and then re-enable it when needed again?

There is a blue highlight that appears whenever a Div that has the cursor:pointer property applied is touched in Chrome.
How can we get rid of it?

I have tried the following:

    -webkit-touch-callout: none;
    -webkit-user-select: none;
    -khtml-user-select: none;
    -moz-user-select: none;
    -ms-user-select: none;
    user-select: none;

But they do not affect the blue highlighting on press of a cursor.

Highlight changed lines and changed bytes in each changed line

I am coding an app using jQuery, jqTouch and phonegap and have run across a persistent problem which arises when a user submits a form using the Go button on the soft keyboard.

Although it is easy to get the cursor to move to the appropriate form input element by using `$(&#39;#input_element_id&#39;).focus()`, the orange outline highlight always returns to the last input element on the form. (The highlight does not show up when the form is submitted using the form submit button.)

What I need is to find a way either to disable the orange highlight completely or else make it move to the same input element as the cursor.

So far, I have tried adding the following to my CSS:

    .class_id:focus {
    	outline: none;
    }

This works in Chrome but not on the emulator or on my phone. I have also tried editing the jqTouch `theme.css` to read:

    ul li input[type=&quot;text&quot;] {
    	-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); and
    	-webkit-focus-ring-color:  rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
    }

With no effect.
I have also tried each of the following additions to the `AndroidManifest.xml` file:

    android:imeOptions=&quot;actionGo|flagNoEnterAction&quot;

None of which have any effect.

Update: I have done some more troubleshooting with this and to date have found:

1. The outline property works only on Chrome, not on the Android browser.

2. The `-webkit-tap-highlight-color` property does in fact work on the Android browser, though not on Chrome. It disables the highlight on focus as well as on tapping.

3. The `-webkit-focus-ring-color` property does not seem to work on either browser.

I&#39;m looking for a way to do the following.
  
I add a `&lt;div&gt;` to a page, and an ajax callback returns some value. The `&lt;div&gt;` is filled with values from the ajax call, and the `&lt;div&gt;` is then prepended to another `&lt;div&gt;`, which acts as a table column.

I would like to get the user&#39;s attention, to show her/him that there is something new on the page.  
I want the `&lt;div&gt;` to blink, not show/hide, but to highlight/unhighlight for some time, lets say 5 seconds.

I have been looking at the blink plugin, but as far as I can see it only does show/hide on an element.

Btw, the solution has to be cross-browser, and yes, IE unfortunately included. I will probably have to hack a little to get it working in IE, but overall it has to work.

Highlighting Text Color using Html.fromHtml() in Android?

When I mark a word (of any kind) I would like all occurrences (in that particular file) of that word to be highlighted in the scrollbar on the right hand side.

This was a feature in VS2015 and VS2013. I cannot imagine that they removed it, I just don&#39;t know how to switch it on. None of the apparent possibilities in Tools -&gt; Options (image) helps me.

I was trying to find a way to highlight a selected block of code in Notepad++ like Microsoft Word allows you to do for a document. Is this possible?

What I am attempting to do is to highlight a div with a certain id, when It has been referred to by an anchor on another page IE:

I&#39;m sure that I&#39;ve seen a CSS3 example where a div is highlighted if it was linked to.

I was wondering if anybody knows how to select using js the complete table, so that the user can right-click on the selection, copy it to the clipboard and then paste it on Excel. If you select the table manually, the process works perfectly. But sometimes, if the table height is a few times larger than the screen, selecting it dragging the mouse gets tedious. So, I want to give the users the possibility to click on a &quot;select the whole table&quot; button and everything gets ready to be copied. 

Any ideas?

I am working on a force directed graph in D3. I want to highlight the mouseover&#39;d node, its links, and its child nodes by setting all of the other nodes and links to a lower opacity.

In this example, http://jsfiddle.net/xReHA/, I am able to fade out all of the links and nodes then fade in the connected links, but, so far, I haven&#39;t been able to elegantly fade in the connected nodes that are children of the currently mouseover&#39;d node.

This is the key function from the code:

I am getting a `Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method &#39;setProperty&#39; of undefined` error when I try to set the opacity on an element I loaded from the source.target. I suspect this is not the right way to load that node as a d3 object, but I can&#39;t find another way to load it without iterating over all of the nodes again to find the ones that match the link&#39;s target or source. To keep the performance reasonable, I don&#39;t want to iterate over all the nodes more than necessary.

I took the example of fading the links from https://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/4062006:

However, that doesn&#39;t show how to alter the connected child nodes.

Any good suggestions on how to solve or improve this will be furiously upvoted :)

Highlight selected node, its links, and its children in a D3 force directed graph

I&#39;m writing a Firefox addon that is triggered whenever a word is highlighted. However I need a script that detects when a word is highlighted, and I&#39;m stuck. An example would be nytimes.com (when you&#39;re reading an article and you highlight a word, the reference icon pops up). However the nytimes.com script is super complex. I&#39;m 16 and not much of a programmer, so that is definitely way out of my league.

Is there a way to change the color of the highlight area within a text input when text is selected? Not the highlight border or the background, but the portion that appears around the text when you have the text actually selected.

I worked in NetBeans and liked this feature: when you place cursor in a variable name all occurences of the variable are highlighted. This is very useful for quick searching all occurences of the variable. Is it possible to add this behavior to Vim?
