I am populating a DataGridView control on a Windows Form (C# 2.0 not WPF).

My goal is to display a grid that neatly fills all available width with cells - i.e. no unused (dark grey) areas down the right and sizes each column appropriately according to the data it contains, &lt;b&gt;but&lt;/b&gt; also allows the user to resize any of the columns to their liking.

I am attempting to achieve this by setting the AutoSizeMode of each column to be **DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.AllCells** except for one of the columns which I set to **DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.Fill** in order to ensure the entire area of the grid is neatly filled with data. (I don&#39;t mind that when the user attempt to resize this column it springs back to a size that ensures the horizontal space is always used.)

However, as I mentioned, once loaded I would like to allow the user to resize the columns to suit their own requirements - in setting these AutoSizeMode values for each column it appears the user is then unable to then resize those columns.

I&#39;ve tried not setting the AutoSizeMode of all the columns which does allow resizing BUT doesn&#39;t set the initial size according to the data the cells contain. The same result occurs when changing the grid&#39;s AutoSizeMode back to &quot;Not Set&quot; after loading the data.

Is there a setting I&#39;m missing here which allows automatic setting of default column widths AND user resizing or is there another technique I must use when populating the DataGridView control?

If you test it - although datatable is filtered (ds.Tables[0].DefaultView.Count changes), datagridview is not updated...
I&#39;ve been looking for a long time for any solution, but the problem is that **DataSource cannot change** - as it&#39;s additional control, I don&#39;t want it to mess up with programmer&#39;s code.  

I know possible solutions are:  
- to bind DataTable from DataSet using DataBinding and use it as example 2: but it&#39;s up to the programmer during code writing,   
- to change dataSource to BindingSource, dataGridView.DataSource = dataSet.Tables[0], or to DefaultView programatically: however, it changes the DataSource. So the solution:  

    private void textBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)

He can do that, as he designed DataGridView with DataSet and DataMember in designer.
Code will be compiled, however, after using a filter, it will throw an exception...


So the question is: how can I filter DataTable in DataSet and show the results on DataGridView without changing DataSource to another? Why I can filter DataTable from example 1 directly, while filtering DataTable from DataSet is not working?
Maybe it&#39;s not DataTable bound to DataGridView in that case?  

Please note, that my problem takes from designing issues, so the solution MUST WORK on example 3. 


Filtering DataGridView without changing datasource

I have a winforms app and want to trigger some code when a checkbox embedded in a `DataGridView` control is checked / unchecked. Every event I have tried either

1. Triggers as soon as the `CheckBox` is clicked but before its checked state changes, or
2. Triggers only once the `CheckBox` looses its focus

I can&#39;t seem to find event that triggers immediately after the checked state changes.

What I am trying to achieve is that when the checked state of a `CheckBox` in one `DataGridView` changes, the data in two other `DataGridView`s changes. Yet all the events I have used, the data in the other grids only changes after the `CheckBox` in the first `DataGridView` looses focus.

I have a class

and a `List&lt;Person&gt;` to which I add some items. The list is bound to my `DataGridView`.

There is no problem. `myGrid` displays two rows, but when I add new items to my `persons` list, `myGrid` does not show new updated list. It only shows the two rows which I added before.

So what is the problem?

Rebinding every time works well. But when I bind a `DataTable` to the grid when every time when I make some changes to `DataTable` there is not any need to ReBind `myGrid`.  

How to solve it without rebinding every time?



Binding List&lt;T&gt; to DataGridView in WinForm

I&#39;ve set the itemsource of my WPF Datagrid to a List of Objects returned from my DAL. I&#39;ve also added an extra column which contains a button, the xaml is below.

This renders fine. However on the **Button_Click** method, is there any way I can get the row on the datagrid where the button resides? More specifically, one of the properties of my objects is &quot;Id&quot;, and I&#39;d like to be able to pass this into the constructor of another form in the event handler.

I have 3 columns in my `DataGridView`. What I am trying to do is have the first 2 columns auto fit to the width of the content, and have the 3rd column fill the remaining space.

Is it possible to do in WinForms? I am loading my data from an EF DataContext if that&#39;s any use. I have included an image of how it currently looks.

DataGridView AutoFit and Fill

Can someone describe what the difference between the two are for my project.

Currently I have a `List&lt;MyClass&gt;` and set the BindingSource to that and a DataGridView to the BindingSource.

I have implemented `IEditableObject` so when CancelEdit is called I revert my object back to what it was with a `Memberwise.Clone()`

Will changing my List to a BindingList solve any of this and what are the advantages of using a BindingList?

In short, I have a `textbox` that changes the `DGV` selection based on what is typed into the `textbox`.  When this happens, the selection changes to the matching `row`.

Unfortunately if the selected `row` is out of the view, I have to manually scroll down to find the selection.  Does anyone know how to force the `DGV` to show the selected `row`?

I&#39;ve actually solved this, but I&#39;m posting it for posterity.

I ran into a very odd issue with the DataGridView on my dual-monitor system. The issue manifests itself as an EXTREMELY slow repaint of the control (*like 30 seconds for a full repaint*), but only when it is on one of my screens. When on the other, the repaint speed is fine.

I have an Nvidia 8800 GT with the latest non-beta drivers (175. something). Is it a driver bug? I&#39;ll leave that up in the air, since I have to live with this particular configuration. (It does not happen on ATI cards, though...)

The paint speed has nothing to do with the cell contents, and custom drawing doesn&#39;t improve the performance at all - even when just painting a solid rectangle.

I later find out that placing a ElementHost (from the System.Windows.Forms.Integration namespace) on the form corrects the problem. It doesn&#39;t have to be messed with; it just needs to be a child of the form the DataGridView is also on. It can be resized to (0, 0)  as long as the *Visible* property is true.

I don&#39;t want to explicitly add the .NET 3/3.5 dependency to my application; I make a method to create this control at runtime (if it can) using reflection. It works, and at least it fails gracefully on machines that don&#39;t have the required library - it just goes back to being slow.

This method also lets me apply to fix while the app is running, making it easier to see what the WPF libraries are changing on my form (using Spy++).

After a lot of trial and error, I notice that enabling double buffering on the control itself (as opposed to just the form) corrects the issue!

So, you just need to make a custom class based off of DataGridView so you can enable its DoubleBuffering. That&#39;s it!

    class CustomDataGridView: DataGridView
    {
        public CustomDataGridView()
        {
            DoubleBuffered = true;
        }
    }

As long as all of my instances of the grid are using this custom version, all is well. If I ever run into a situation caused by this where I&#39;m not able to use the subclass solution (if I don&#39;t have the code), I suppose I could try to inject that control onto the form :) (*although I&#39;ll be more likely to try using reflection to force the DoubleBuffered property on from the outside to once again avoid the dependency*).

It is sad that such a trivially simple thing ate up so much of my time...


Horrible redraw performance of the DataGridView on one of my two screens

I have a datagridview on my form and I populate it with this:

    dataGridView1.DataSource = students.Select(s =&gt; new { ID = s.StudentId, RUDE = s.RUDE, Nombre = s.Name, Apellidos = s.LastNameFather + &quot; &quot; + s.LastNameMother, Nacido = s.DateOfBirth })
                                       .OrderBy(s =&gt; s.Apellidos)

Now, I use the s.Apellidos as the default sort, but I&#39;d also like to allow users to sort when clicking on the column header.

This sort will **not** modify the data in any way, it&#39;s just a client side bonus to allow for easier searching for information when scanning the screen with their eyes.

I have a dataGridView that has 3 columns: SystemId, FirstName, LastName that is bound using database information.  I would like to highlight a certain row, which I would do using:

I have a WinForms application with `DataGridView` control. My control has five

I have a `DataGridView` control on a Windows Forms application (written with C#).  

What I need is: when a user selects a DataGridViewRow, and then clicks on a &#39;Delete&#39; button, the row should be deleted **and** next, the database needs to be updated using table adapters.

This is what I have so far:

    private void btnDelete_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        if (this.dataGridView1.SelectedRows.Count &gt; 0)
        {
            dataGridView1.Rows.RemoveAt(this.dataGridView1.SelectedRows[0].Index);
        }                
    }

Furthermore, this only deletes one row. I would like it where the user can select multiple rows.
