Getting into the first serious WPF project.  It seems like there are a lot of basic controls flat out missing.  Specifically, I am looking for the Numeric UpDown control.  Was there an out of band release that I missed?  Really don&#39;t feel like writing my own control.  

I do not want to use the WindowsFormHost and plop a WinForm ctl on it.  I want it to be fully WPF without any legacy junk.

I need to get all controls on a form that are of type x. I&#39;m pretty sure I saw that code once in the past that used something like this:

I have a set of controls with attached commands and logic that are constantly reused in the same way.  I decided to create a user control that holds all the common controls and logic. 

However I also need the control to be able to hold content that can be named.  I tried the following:

How to create a WPF UserControl with NAMED content

I just wanted to hear some authorities on when and where you should use a `LITERAL` control over a `LABEL`. 

As I understand it, the difference is this: A `LABEL` can be styled via the `&lt;SPAN&gt;` tags that are added.

I personally find the addition of `&lt;SPAN&gt;` tags in my HTML to be very annoying and never actually apply styles through ASP, and so `LITERAL`s seem to be what should be used most of the time... but I&#39;m concerned there&#39;s *other* considerations or benefits to using a LABEL over it that I&#39;m unaware of.

**Is it 100% fine to replace any `LABEL`s with `LITERAL`s, provided we&#39;re not applying styles to them? Are there NO other considerations?**


ASP.Net: Literal vs Label

I want to build a site where the user can enter text and format it in Markdown. The reason I&#39;d like a Javascript solution is because I want to display a live preview, just like on StackOverflow.

My site is not targeted at developers, however, so an editor control would be ideal.

I gather that on StackOverflow, the WMD editor is being used.

A quick search on Google also turns up Showdown library, which I think is actually being used by WMD.

Are there any other options? Are WMD/Showdown great tools already? What have been your experiences with the different options?



Is there any good Markdown Javascript library or control?

I am looking for some recommendations on good places to find libraries of controls/templates/styles for WPF. I know about the usual places like Infragistics, but it seems to me that there should be some kind of community effort by now to share nice, clean, well written controls for WPF controls.

I am not big on the design side, and it would be nice to fill out my personal libraries with some nice examples from people who are better at design.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Prevent class inheritance in C++

I have a `ToolStripMenuItem` called `myMenu`. How can I access this like so:

    /* But how do I access it like this: */

This is because I am dynamically generating ToolStripMenuItems from an XML file and need to reference MenuItems by their dynamically generated names.

I&#39;m trying to set the Button&#39;s FlatStyle, in the resources I&#39;ve seen I can&#39;t find anything that tells me how I can do this, in Windows Forms this is set through `FlatStyle = Flat`.

How would one do this in WPF?

Windows Forms&#39; `CheckBox` control implements both `CheckedChanged` and `CheckStateChanged` events. As far as I can tell, both fire when the checked status of the checkbox is changed. 

`CheckedChanged` precedes `CheckStateChanged`, but other than that I see no difference. Am I missing something? Should one be preferred over another?

This may be a no-brainer for the WPF cognoscenti, but I&#39;d like to know if there&#39;s a simple way to put text on the WPF ProgressBar. To me, an empty progress bar looks naked. That&#39;s screen real estate that could carry a message about **what** is in progress, or even just add numbers to the representation. Now, WPF is all about containers and extensions and I&#39;m slowly wrapping my mind around that, but since I don&#39;t see a &quot;Text&quot; or &quot;Content&quot; property, I&#39;m thinking I&#39;m going to have to add something to the container that is my progress bar. Is there a technique or two out there that is more natural than my original WinForms impulses will be? What&#39;s the best, most WPF-natural way to add text to that progress bar?

How can I change the Java Runtime Version on Windows.

I installed Java&amp;nbsp;7 for some tests, and now I need the old java6 as system default, but I don&#39;t want to uninstall the Java&amp;nbsp;7 (I need it for later tests). Can I change the system-used [JRE][1] in the control panel/Java/JRE tab? I can change/edit/add/delete the user-used version, but not the system-used.

This question is a result of what i noticed while trying to answer [another question][1]. And now im curious to know why `&lt;asp:TextBox runat=&quot;server&quot; Visible=&quot;&lt;%= true %&gt;&quot; /&gt;` leads to a compile error, and not to a visible TextBox as i would have expected.

From what i have discovered so far, the `&lt;%= %&gt;` expressions are not translated to literal controls as i have always thought. But instead it is evaluated and written directly to the HtmlTextWriter when the page is rendered. But apparently the parser (I&#39;m unsure that is the correct term for the part that is translating ASP.NET markup to .NET code) doesn&#39;t even attempt to evaluate `&lt;%= %&gt;` expressions, when they are used as property values for server controls. It just uses it as a string. Which i guess is why I get the error message: *Cannot create an object of type &#39;System.Boolean&#39; from its string representation &#39;&lt;%= true %&gt;&#39; for the &#39;Visible&#39; property*. 

If i instead ditch the runat=&quot;server&quot; and combines the `&lt;%= %&gt;` with regular html-markup, like this:

	&lt;input type=&quot;button&quot; id=&quot;Button1&quot; visible=&#39;&lt;%= true %&gt;&#39; /&gt;

Then the parser just splits the chunk in parts before and after the expression and then writes it to the HtmlTextWriter in the render method. Something like this:

It hooks up the expression to be used when the control is databound, but unlike the &lt;%= %&gt; expression, the generated code actually evaluates the content of the `&lt;%# %&gt;` expression. The parser ends up generating the following:

Notice the `button.Visible = true;` that is the result of the `&lt;%# %&gt;` expression.

So my question is.. Why is the expression in the first example just treated as a string, instead of being evaluated to &quot;true&quot;. The expressions is somewhat similar for the two other examples, and they yield the code i would have expected.

Is it just a mistake (which i doubt since it isn&#39;t a new issue with the current version of ASP.NET), or is there a good reason why we are not allowed to use `&lt;%= %&gt;` like that?

Why will &lt;%= %&gt; expressions as property values on a server-controls lead to a compile errors?

I have a WinForms application with `DataGridView` control. My control has five
columns (say &quot;Name&quot;, &quot;Address&quot;, &quot;Phone&quot; etc)

I am not happy with default column width. I want to have more control over column appearance. What I want
is to be able to do one of the following:

 - Set width of each column in percent
 - Set width of each column in pixels
 - Use some other best-practive method (make width to fit text etc)

Please suggest - which property to use and how.



DataGridView - how to set column width?

Let&#39;s say I have a Control and its location is relative to its parent.  If its embedded many times and is the great great great grandchild of the main form, how can I determine what its location is on my entire screen, not just its location in the immediate parent?  This is for the purpose of printing a particular Control via a screenshot (since for some controls the DrawToBitmap doesn&#39;t work properly).
