I use postgres from homebrew in my OS X, but when I reboot my system, sometimes the postgres doesn&#39;t start after the reboot, and so I manually tried to start it with `postgres -D /usr/local/var/postgres`, but then the error occurred with the following message: `FATAL:  could not open directory &quot;pg_tblspc&quot;: No such file or directory`.

The last time it occurred, I couldn&#39;t get it to the original state, so I decided to uninstall the whole postgres system and then re-installed it and created users, tables, datasets, etc... It was so disgusting, but it frequently occurs on my system, say once in a few months.

So why does it lose the `pg_tblspc` file frequently? And is there anything that I can do to avoid the loss of the file?

I haven&#39;t upgraded my homebrew and postgres to the latest version (i.e. I&#39;ve been using the same version). Also, all the things that I did on the postgres database is delete the table and populate the new data every day. I haven&#39;t changed the user, password, etc...

I felt the need to add this, since the thread is the top hit on google for this issue and for many the symptom is different. Homebrewers likely will encounter this error message:

    No such file or directory
    Is the server running locally and accepting
    connections on Unix domain socket &quot;/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432&quot;?

So, if you just experienced this after the Yosemite upgrade you now you&#39;re covered for now reading this thread.

`pg_tblspc` missing after installation of latest version of OS X (Yosemite or El Capitan)

I am trying to edit an entry to PATH, as I did something wrong.

I am using [Mac&amp;nbsp;OS&amp;nbsp;X v10.10.3][1] (Yosemite)

I have tried:

    touch ~/.bash_profile; open ~/.bash_profile

But the file editor opens with nothing inside.

My problem:

I am trying to install ANDROID_HOME to my PATH

I misspelled it, but when I closed the terminal and went back it was gone, so I tried again:

&gt;     export ANDROID_HOME=/&lt;installation location&gt;/android-sdk-macosx
&gt;     export PATH=${PATH}:$ANDROID_HOME/tools:$ANDROID_HOME/platform-tools

This time, I typed the command correctly but, when I closed the terminal, my settings disappeared again.

How do I execute my desired settings?

Installing libv8 gem on OS X 10.9+

It looks like the `launchd.conf` does not load my environment variable anymore.
Has anyone else noticed that?

Is there another solution to permanently set environment variables?

While installing pip and python I have ran into a that says:

because I now have to install using `sudo`.

I had python and a handful of libraries already installed on my Mac, I&#39;m running Yosemite. I recently had to do a clean wipe and then reinstall of the OS. Now I&#39;m getting this prompt and I&#39;m having trouble figuring out how to change it

Before my command line was `Parthenon$` now it&#39;s `Philips-MBP:~ Parthenon$`

I am the sole owner of this computer and this is the only account on it. This seems to be a problem when upgrading to python 3.4, nothing seems to be in the right place, virtualenv isn&#39;t going where I expect it to, etc.  

pip install: Please check the permissions and owner of that directory

I&#39;m using `homebrew` and `oh-my-zsh` on a fresh OSX 10.10.1 install. I got `nvm` via `homebrew` and then attempted to run it but says - *zsh: command not found: nvm*

Any idea what the problem is? I was able to install and use git just fine...

As stated by more recent answers from [DarkPurple141][3] and [Elise van Looij][4]. `nvm` doesn&#39;t appear to be compatible with `homebrew`. This is also stated in the official nvm-sh repo located [here][5].

&gt; homebrew-installed nvm, please brew uninstall it, and install it using
&gt; the instructions below, before filing an issue.
&gt;

Homebrew installs nvm but nvm can&#39;t be found afterwards?

After installing Yosemite, I was unable to run brew or ruby. 

I was getting this error on brew update:

How to get Ruby / Homebrew / RVM to work on Yosemite?

Can you tell me how to install valgrind on yosemite? When I try to install it i get &quot; checking for the kernel version... unsupported (14.0.0)

There is no official path or update, and I didn&#39;t found anything (except http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.kde.devel.bugs/1553705 , but they didn&#39;t resolve that problem).

Yosemite and Valgrind

Maybe this is just me experiencing such an annoying &quot;feature&quot;:

After upgrading from Xcode 6.0.1 to Xcode 6.1, things changed. Xcode 6.1 is forever indexing the project or compiling source files. The project is not a huge one. It just contains a bunch of Swift files and AWS SDK 2.0 Cocoapods in the workspace. I don&#39;t think it should prevent the whole to index and compile smoothly. I tried with some aws-sdk-ios-samples, just to see how Xcode 6.1 works on them, and it ended up in the same forever waiting.

What solutions I have tried so far:
 
 1. Deleting &quot;Derived Data&quot; in the Organizer, and re-open and workspace. (fail to fix)
 2. &quot;Show Package Contents&quot; on the .xcodeproj file and deleting .xcworkspace as in (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6355667/xcode-4-slow-performance)

None of them worked, unfortunately.

P.S. maybe I should try re-creating the project?
My computer settings:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, with Yosemite. (I think this is enough for running this small project.)

Swift Xcode Index Freezing or Slow

`Apache` `localhost/~username/` not working

After upgrading to OSX 10.10 Yosemite Beta, running `git pull` is returning the following error:

I&#39;ve checked the referenced git-core directory and the git-sh-setup.sh is there.

I&#39;ve **Safari 8.0.6** with **iOS 8.3** on my iPad, while debugging through Web Inspector on my **Mac (10.10.3)**, the connection keeps on disconnecting (I don&#39;t see the device name under Develop menu upon disconnection) but can resume if I quit safari followed by a relaunch then I&#39;m able to refresh and inspect remotely again.

I would like to auto start the MySQL server on startup. This was possible in Mavericks but seems to be not working on Yosemite.

Autostart MySQL Server on Mac OS X Yosemite/El Capitan

I am currently running OS X Yosemite (10.10.2) on my MacBook Pro... By default, Apple ships Python 2.7.6 on Yosemite. 

Just downloaded and ran this installer for Python 3: `python-3.4.3-macosx10.6.pkg`

When I opened up my Terminal and typed in `python`, this is what came up:

Installed Python 3 on Mac OS X but its still Python 2.7

I`m asking how to enable my VT/NX for my MacBook, when I try to use X86 emulator, it appears to me that VT/NX NOT ENABLED, it had never seem this when I used 10.9 system, after I update my MacBook to Yosemite, it appears to me.

When I try to start my x86 emulator, it tells me:

	Starting emulator for AVD &#39;X86&#39;
	emulator: ERROR: x86 emulation currently requires hardware acceleration!
	Please ensure Intel HAXM is properly installed and usable.
	CPU acceleration status: HAX is not installed on this machine (/dev/HAX is missing).

But the AVD shows me that I had installed HAXM.

When I try to install by myself again, installer prints `VT/NX NOT ENABLED`.

I tried running all versions of Intel HAXM I could get:

After upgrading OS X my install of MySQL stopped loading on startup.

This [walk-through on MySQL][1] says:

&gt; automatic startup of MySQL, change this variable to MYSQLCOM=-NO-.&quot;

So, I opened that file and it says:

I assume OSX dev&#39;s added the `# This file is going away` but I&#39;m not certain.

If that is the case, what is the proper way to start MySQL on startup on OSX Yosemite?

How to auto-load MySQL on startup on OS X Yosemite / El Capitan

After initially upgrading to 10.10 and XCode6-Beta, I tried to run &#39;pod update&#39; and I received this error:

    cannot load such file -- xcodeproj/prebuilt/universal.x86_64-darwin14-2.0.0/xcodeproj_ext (LoadError)

I tried to update Cocoapods using &#39;sudo gem install cocoapods&#39;, but received another error:

    Fetching: xcodeproj-0.17.0.gem (100%)
    Building native extensions.  This could take a while...
    ERROR:  Error installing cocoapods:
    ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

Has anyone else been able to successfully use Cocoapods with Xcode 6 on 10.10 Yosemite?

I just recently upgraded to OSX 10.10 Yosemite and I since the upgrade I can&#39;t do Curl POST to a SSL url anymore.

I first used wordpress&#39;s `wp_remote_request` call and also tried to use curl in php.
Both (as expected) give the same error message:

&gt; 
Error Number:56

&gt; Error String:SSLRead() return error -9806

Note: when I curl POST to HTTP it works fine.
I reckon it is a setting in PHP.ini or in my apache (I lost my original HTTPD.conf file after upgrade...).

Can anyone help me out?

I tried to resign my ipa file with new provisioning profile on Mac Os 10.10 with iResign app but I got this warning: &quot;Warning: --resource-rules has been deprecated in Mac OS X &gt;= 10.10&quot;. 

What should I do now?

I know similar questions exist, such as [MySQL with MAMP does not work with OSX Yosemite 10.10][1]. However, I do have MAMP, nor XAMPP installed on my computer.

When I try to start mySQL from the PrefPane, nothing happens.

When I try to start mqSQL from the command line via `sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start` I get:  

&gt; `Starting MySQL . ERROR! The server quit without updating PID file`
&gt; `(/usr/local/mysql/data/adamg.local.pid).`

Any and all help would be appreciated. I can supply any file output necessary.

Just installed phantomjs, mac os x yosemite. Whenever I run /bin/phantomjs, with any parameter, I get `Killed: 9`. Any idea?

macOS window with integrated title bar and toolbar?

I am new to Anaconda Python and I am setting up a project in Sublime Text 3. I have installed Anaconda and created a virtual environment using:

    conda create -n python27 python=2.7 anaconda
    conda create -n python35 python=3.5 anaconda

I am having trouble setting up the Virtualenvs plugin for SublimeText 3. 

When I try, it asks me for a virtualenvs path which I give:

    ~/users/../anaconda/envs/python27

Then it asks for what I&#39;m assuming is a path to a python distribution because it lists file paths for the system versions of python -- but not the anaconda install.

I have no real desire to use the plug in, I just want to be able to use both versions of python.  Could I use a project settings file to set the version of python instead?

I also try to uninstall and install my brew again ([based on this answer][3]) and it&#39;s still same.

Also, I try [this solution][4] but still get the error.

What should I do now to make sure this nokogiri gem installed successfully?

Note: I&#39;m using OSX 10.11.1 El Capitan.

## Mcrypt

install brew using __[accepted answer][1]__ and omit part with gd installation (unless you need it), and use following steps:


  1. do search - `$ brew search mcrypt`
  2. pick the version of PHP you want
  3. install - `$ brew install php55-mcrypt`
  4. confirm using `$ php -m | grep mcrypt`

Yosemite / El Capitan php-gd + mcrypt installation

I always have my IDE (phpStorm) in full screen mode (Yosemite). 

I want my iTerm2 hotkey to slide my terminal window down over the IDE, so it doesn&#39;t open up a new space for the terminal window. As once the window slides back up it leaves me on an empty space, rather than going back to phpStorm.
