I have problems with my macport after update to OS X 10.9. 

I try to follow this manual https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration to fix them.

But when I install Command Line Tools:

&gt; xcode-select --install

I get message 

&gt; Can&#39;t install the software because it is not currently available from
&gt; the Software Update server.


Meanwhile I successfully updated my other machine to OS X 10.9. and installed command-line tools with no problems, so they must be available.


What is the problem here?

Xcode is not currently available from the Software Update server

Attempting to install the  zlib-devel on mac os x mavericks with homebrew doesn&#39;t work:

    brew install zlib-devel
    Error: No available formula for zlib-devel 
    Searching taps...

This install 

    brew install zlib

works fine though.

brew install zlib-devel on Mac OS X Mavericks

I get the following error when attempting to install `psycopg2` via pip on Mavericks 10.9:

Not sure how to proceed and have searched here and elsewhere for this particular error.  Any help is much appreciated!

I installed Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) yesterday and since then I am not able to start my Eclipse. I am attaching a screenshot of the message I see.

Installing libv8 gem on OS X 10.9+

I just purchased a brand new MacBook Pro. 

This is my first MAC ever and I&#39;m still trying to get the hang of navigating my way around. 

Anyway, I&#39;m also new to Java and I&#39;ve been practicing on my Windows PC before it permanently died. 

Now that I&#39;m on this MAC, I installed my JDK and now I need to set the `JAVA_HOME` environment variable. 

I have no idea what to do.

I tried following some of these guides and didn&#39;t get very far.

I have been running MAMP Pro 3.05 successfully in Yosemite up to DP4 on a partition that was a clean install of Yosemite.

I now have run the installer for DP5 over my Mavericks install, and now that MAMP Pro install will not start Apache.  It says to check the logs, but I don&#39;t see anything pertinent.

I&#39;m assuming that since this is a pre-existing install, something in its config is wrong for Yosemite&#39;s Apache.

Any ideas?

I tried a different computer upgrading it from 10.8.5 to 10.9, and then try to do selfupdate for macports, it did not work again but gave a different error:

Can&#39;t update Macports (with Mac OS X Mavericks)

Today I tried PhoneGap/Cordova with **Mac OS X Mavericks**. Building for iOS went just fine, but building for Android wasn&#39;t without some guesswork.

I installed Android 4.2.2 via the Android SDK Manager (I had to use the older **API v17** since it wasn&#39;t compatible with a newer one), added the **`PATH environment variables`** for the SDK&#39;s `platform-tools` and `tools` and thought I was ready to take off by running the command: 

    phonegap run android


Nevertheless, I got the following error:

Error executing command &#39;ant&#39; on Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks when building for Android with PhoneGap/Cordova

I&#39;ve just updated my Mac OS to 10.9 and I discovered that some (all?) of my Python modules are not here anymore, especially the Image one.

So I try to execute `sudo pip install pil`, but I get this error:

My Xcode is up-to-date and I don&#39;t have any idea. Is it possible that PIL is not yet 10.9 compatible ?


Can&#39;t install PIL after Mac OS X 10.9

Using any php application results in:

    dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libpng15.15.dylib
    Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/php
    Reason: image not found

Most of my php applications were installed using homebrew with the exception of composer (installed using curl)

I tried removing the the libpng and reinstalling with homebrew to no avail.

Next was to switch to latest version of libpng 1.5 as stated in the error message:

    $ brew info libpng

I keep getting the following error:

I have reinstalled, deleted and tried about EVERYTHING to get Genymotion to work again.

I do not have the device I need, but Genymotion was PERFECT for the job, until Mavericks update I have been fighting to get it to work again. 

MacBook Pro, Retina 13-inch, Early 2013.
i5, 8gb.

I&#39;m running version 1.3.1 for os x.
I do have Virtualbox 4.3 installed with Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.0-89960.vbox-extpack too.

My Virtualbox starts up normally without ANY errors.
I tried Environment variables putting vbox on my $PATH, all sorts of things.
Nothing works! 

I have no idea what to do anymore, anyone out there had similar problems and fixed it ?

I execute this command in order to change the permission of the folder:

Impossible to Install PG gem on my mac with Mavericks

I upgraded my OSX (Lion) to Mavericks and I can&#39;t install Nokogiri for my projects.

I have installed the Command Line Tools:

However, when anything tries to use `xcodebuild`, I get the following error:

On Mountain Lion it was possible to use this without installing the whole of Xcode, rather just the Command Line Tools. Is it possible to do this on Mavericks? How can I get it working?

N.B. This is on a **clean install** of Mavericks.

I have just made a clean installation of `OS X Mavericks`, and I have downloaded `Eclipse Kepler` , but if I execute it, gives me this message:

Asking me to install `Runtime Java SE 6`; I have already installed `Java 7`, and if I press `Install` in that dialog, download and install it, and open Eclipse again, the dialog appears again.

I&#39;m trying to install the following gem versions on Mavericks

- libv8 (3.16.14.3)
- therubyracer (0.12.1)

Obviously therubyracer gems depends on libv8.

# 1) Installing libv8 #

What is libv8? My bit of research seems to indicaite it&#39;s some sort of javascript library used by Google Chrome?

I was having trouble installing it, but [this great post](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19577759/installing-libv8-gem-on-mavericks) had both my error and a well-explained answer on how to bypass it.

So I installed `libv8` with

    gem install libv8 -- --with-system-v8

It&#39;s my understanding that this installs the gem but uses my local system installation of the v8 library instead of... the version that comes with the gem? Either way, it was successful. 

# 2) Installing therubyracer #

During the next step, I had trouble install `therubyracer` gem. I&#39;m not quite sure what this gem does, just that it&#39;s a dependency of a rails project I&#39;m trying to `bundle install`.

It gives me the following error:

From what I can gather, I chose to install `libv8` using my local V8 library instead of what was provided with `libv8`, but now that local installation could not be located.

- How do I check if I do indeed have V8 installed and how do I locate it?
- I tried a few of the specified flags, none of them seemed to point the gem to the correct installation directory
- This might be a separate topic, but what is `extconf.rb`? I&#39;ve seen it in a few places. And what&#39;s it trying to do with the `gcc` compiler in specific?

1. I tried [this solution](https://stackoverflow.com/a/19691782/2490003) of uninstalling libv8 and re-installing via `brew install`. It was mentioned in a couple of similar questions as well. No luck.

1. I also tried the `CC`, `CXX`, and `CPP` environment variables as described [here](http://www.computersnyou.com/2673/2013/10/install-ruby-rails-macos-x-mavericks-10-9-mysql-step-step/), although I don&#39;t think that has any effect as it was already picking up my `gcc v4.6` compiler.

therubyracer - Gem::Ext::BuildError: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension

After upgrading my Mac OSX 10.8 to 10.9, Maven not found in the /usr/share path but its installed in 10.8. 

when I try this command:

    $ maven -version

got this result 
&gt; -bash: mvn: command not found

but it worked fine on 10.8? Any idea?

I&#39;m the only one to have a slow simulator since the last OSX update (Mavericks)?

 - I&#39;ve tried to reset simulator
 - I&#39;ve tried to switch on/off animation speed in Debug main bar
 - I&#39;ve tried to draw my game with a simple moving quad
 - I&#39;ve tried to run my application on IOS7, IOS6 with Retina and without on the simulator
 - My application isn&#39;t slow when I run it on an Android device

Simulator is always slow, on the previous OSX version I haven&#39;t got any problems :/
(My application is a game using OpenGL ES2)

IOS simulator slow with Mavericks

I&#39;m trying to install Elasticsearch 1.1.0 on OSX Mavericks but i got the following errors when i&#39;m trying to start:

i finally make it working, unfortunally not sure how because i tried a lot of changes :). But here&#39;s a list of changes i made that can help:

- i removed jdk and jre and reinstalled on a clean env.

- i deleted all the cache dirs.I suppose this can be the &#39;cause&#39; for that it&#39;s working now

Note: now it&#39;s working also if i&#39;m installing with brew.

Installing Elasticsearch on OSX Mavericks

When an Xcode Service bot attempts to perform a build with `run unit tests` enabled, the build will always fail. When I look at the log file, the same error repeats many times:

Xcode Service (Mavericks) errors when run unit tests is enabled

I am trying to install the pg gem for use with Postgres.app on my local machine. I am running Mavericks.

Postgres.app is installed and running fine, but I cannot get the gem to work. I&#39;ve done the following:

 1. Used the command &#39;env ARCHFLAGS=&quot;-arch x86_64&quot; gem install pg -- --with-pg-config=/Applications/Postgres.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/pg_config&#39; from the Postgres.app documentation
 2. Updated Homebrew and installed the Apple GCC 4.2
 3. Installed the Xcode developer tools
 4. Updated my $PATH to reference both the Postgres.app bin and lib directories

All with no success. Here is the specific error message I receive:

Cannot install pg gem in Mavericks with Postgres.app

I would like to get a list of open files in a process on os x (10.9.1). In Linux I was able to get this from `/proc/PID/fd`. However I&#39;m not sure how to get the same on OS X. I found that the procfs is not present on the OS X (by default. possible implementations present, but I do not want to go that way). 


So how do I get (natively) the list of open files in a process on OS X. One way is `lsof`. is there any other support available? please let me know where I can get more info on this.

How do I set a permanent environment variable (i.e. one that does not need exporting every time I start a new Terminal session) in Mac OS X 10.9? I&#39;ve found a number of answers about modifying my `.bash_profile` and `.profile`, however neither of these options seem to work as permanent solutions - only temporary. The variable I&#39;m trying to set is `MULE_HOME`. I have the following line in my bash profile:

    export MULE_HOME=$(/opt/mule-standalone-3.4.0)

However, when I start Terminal I get the following line (not sure if this is normal behaviour?):

    -bash: /opt/mule-standalone-3.4.0: is a directory

And running a simple `env` command returns the following:

Mac OS X 10.9 - setting permanent environment variables

I&#39;m running [Mac OS 10.9.5][1] (Mavericks), I&#39;ve followed https://docs.docker.com/installation/mac/ to install Docker.
I get a timeout error message when I run Docker even though the boot2docker VM is running in the background.

git error &quot;unable to locate xcodebuild&quot; after a fresh OS X Mavericks upgrade

I installed `rbenv` via Homebrew on an OS X 10.9.3 MacBook Pro:

    brew update
    brew upgrade rbenv ruby-build

According to `rbenv install --list` on my laptop `Ruby 2.1.0-dev` is the latest.

rbenv install --list does not list version 2.1.2

Using python I am wanting to post a message to the OSX Notification Center.
What library do I need to use?  should i write a program in objective-c and then call that program from python?

I just noticed that after installing OS X 10.9, the g++ compiler links to the clang compiler. Is there anyway to revert back to gcc/g++?

I cant seem to find the local .m2 folder on Mac OS X mavericks. Ideally it should be at `{user.home}/.m2` but I cant seem to find it. 

Should I create it?

I use the following `sed` command to replace text in the file:

    sed -i -e &#39;s/noreply@$.*$.example.com/noreply@example.com/&#39; cron.yaml

But it create backup of the file `cron.yaml` under name `cron.yaml-e`.

I tried to move `-i` to the end:

    sed -e &#39;s/noreply@$.*$.example.com/noreply@example.com/&#39; -i cron.yaml

but in this case `sed` returns an error.

How should I modify my command line to avoid backup file creation?
