Is it possible to do a drop shadow on the content of a PNG?

**Not a square**, but an object drop shadow that  
acts on the non-transparent content of the PNG.

Drop Shadow on UITextField text

It seems in iOS 6, a drop shadow is automatically added to the navigation bar even when you set a custom background image. I&#39;m pretty sure this wasn&#39;t the case with iOS 5 as when I test the same code in the iOS 5 and 6 sim, the shadow appears in iOS 6 but not 5.

Does anyone know anything about this? Or how to enable/disable it?

How to remove button shadow (android)

I&#39;ve got a tabbed navigation bar where I&#39;d like the open tab to have a shadow to set it apart from the other tabs. I&#39;d also like the whole tab section to have a single shadow (see bottom horizontal line) going up, shading the bottom of all tabs except for the open one. 

I&#39;m going to use CSS3&#39;s `box-shadow` property to do it, but I can&#39;t figure out a way to shade only the parts I want. 

Normally I&#39;d cover up the bottom shadow of the open tab with the content area (higher `z-index`), but in this case the content area itself has a shadow so that would just wind up covering the tab.

Creating a CSS3 box-shadow on all sides but one

I am currently playing around with CSS3 and trying to achieve a text effect like this (the black blurry inner shadow):

But I cannot find a way to create text shadows *inside* the text. I wonder whether it is still possible because the box-shadow element is able to render shadow inside like this:

    box-shadow: inset 0px -5px 10px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);

Any ideas?

Inner text shadow with CSS

I searched around, and I could not find a proper way to do this. I want to have the following shadow effects on my views:

Android View shadow

I am trying to add a drop shadow to views that are layered on top of one another, the views collapse allowing content in other views to be seen, in this vein i want to keep `view.clipsToBounds` ON so that when the views collapse their content is clipped.

This seems to have made it difficult for me to add a drop shadow to the layers as when i turn `clipsToBounds` ON the shadows are clipped also.

I have been trying to manipulate `view.frame` and `view.bounds` in order to add a drop shadow to the frame but allow the bounds to be large enough to encompass it, however I have had no luck with this.

Here is the code I am using to add a Shadow (this only works with `clipsToBounds` OFF as shown)

    view.clipsToBounds = NO;
    view.layer.shadowColor = [[UIColor blackColor] CGColor];
    view.layer.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0,5);
    view.layer.shadowOpacity = 0.5;

Here is a screenshot of the shadow being applied to the top lightest grey layer. Hopefully this gives an idea of how my content will overlap if `clipsToBounds` is OFF.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I have also played around with using background images with shadows on, which does work well, however I would still like to know the best coded solution for this.

I need to create a box-shadow on some `block` element, but only (for example) on its right side. The way I do it is to wrap the inner element with `box-shadow` into an outer one with `padding-right` and `overflow:hidden;` so the three other sides of the shadow are not visible.

Is there some better way to achieve this? Like `box-shadow-right`?

**EDIT**: My intentions are to create *only* the vertical part of the shadow. Exactly the same as what `repeat-y` of the rule `background:url(shadow.png) 100% 0% repeat-y` would do.

I&#39;m trying to create a button with **rounded corners** and a **drop shadow**. No matter how I switch up, the button will not display correctly. How to set shadows in React Native for android?

I have a UIImageView that I want to add a shadow behind. I wish that apple had that as a property but they have to make lots of things hard for us programmers so I need to ask this question.

The cropping seems to happen consistently in Chrome (30), Firefox (25), and Opera (12).

I can see that it&#39;s not a viewbox limitation, as it&#39;s set to 600x700.

I can also see in devtools inspector the bounding box of `&lt;path&gt;` element, and it&#39;s almost as if that&#39;s what cuts off the shadow:

If that&#39;s the case:

  1. Why is the shadow only cut off vertically and not horizontally?
  2. How to work around it, so that it&#39;s not clipped like this?

If it&#39;s not the bounding box, what causes this and how to avoid this clipping?

I&#39;m tinkering with Joost van Dongen&#39;s[ Interior mapping shader]( http://interiormapping.oogst3d.net/) and I&#39;m trying to implement self-shadowing. Still I couldn&#39;t quite figure out what coordinates shadow casting light vectors need to be in. You can see somewhat working demo [at here][1]   I&#39;ve attached the light position with an offset to the camera position just to see whats happening but obviously it doesn&#39;t look right either.
Shader code is below. Look for SHADOWS DEV in fragment shader. Vectors in question are: **shad_E** and **shad_I**.

Interior Mapping shader self shadowing

I know soft shadows are not supported by the UILabel out of the box, on the iPhone. So what would be the best way to implement my own one?

**EDIT:**

Obviously I will subclass the `UILabel` and draw in the -drawRect:
My question is, how do I get the contents of the label as graphics and draw around them, blur them etc...

iPhone UILabel text soft shadow

I have a ListView, and with each list item I want it to show a shadow beneath it. I am using Android Lollipop&#39;s new elevation feature to set a Z on the View that I want to cast a shadow, and am already doing this effectively with the ActionBar (technically a Toolbar in Lollipop). I am using Lollipop&#39;s elevation, but for some reason it isn&#39;t showing a shadow under the list items. Here is how each list item&#39;s layout is set up:
