WPF menu item with image

I want to use the Separator control in a vertical way (Lets say in a horizontal StackPanel).

I&#39;m calling `setEnabled(false)` on certain MenuItems based on some state, but they visually look the same. I&#39;d like them to be offset in some way, so that the user knows that the option currently isn&#39;t available -- is there any way to do that?

Changing Locale within the app itself

I have a horizontal navigation menu, which is basically just a `&lt;ul&gt;` with the elements set side-by-side. I do not define width, but simply use padding, because I would like the widths to be defined by the width of the menu item. I bold the currently-selected item.

The trouble is that in bolding, the word becomes slightly wider, which causes the rest of the elements to shift slightly to the left or right. Is there a clever way to prevent this from happening? Something along the lines of telling the padding to ignore the extra width caused by the bolding? My first thought was to simply subtract a few pixels from the padding of the &quot;active&quot; element, but this amount varies.

If possible I&#39;d like to avoid setting a static width on each entry and then centering as opposed to the padding solution I currently have, in order to make future changes to the entries simple.

I need it to work like the popup menu (anchored to a view), and do something when I click an item from the menu. 

How do I add items to the menu by code, keeping menu&#39;s height and make it scrollable if there are more than 5 items. I don&#39;t need to add any images, just text.

Android custom dropdown/popup menu

I&#39;ve been searching around trying to figure out how to create a popup or a dialog that has 4 options to choose from.

 I see this picture on the Android developer site:

Does anyone know how to code up something like the one on the right? I don&#39;t need any icons next to my text, I just need to be able to select from 4 options.

Android: create a popup that has multiple selection options

W3Schools.com and I&#39;m pretty sure I remember seeing W3C.org state that `&lt;menu&gt;` should be used for Toolbar menus and listing form control commands.

So, which one should I use for my main menu? `Nav`, or `Menu`? Does it matter?

I&#39;m trying to add a night theme for my app and I&#39;ve wasted nearly three hours just trying to make the text and icons in my navigation drawer turn white along with the dark background. Here is the way I&#39;m trying to go about doing this in `onCreate()` in `MainActivity.java`:

The `nightMode` boolean is irrelevant because it works. When night mode is set to on (0), whatever menu item is selected in the navigation drawer turns white. However, that only happens when each item is selected which is obviously inconvenient. Here is my drawer_dark.xml:

I&#39;m using white icons on a transparent background for each item, yet they show up as black on the black background of the navigation drawer. I&#39;ve tried looking for an xml solution to changing the color of the text and I&#39;m scratching my head because I don&#39;t know why this was overlooked.

Can someone offer me a dynamic solution in getting what I&#39;m trying to achieve? All help is appreciated, thank you!

Changing text color of menu item in navigation drawer

I have an Activity that has 2 fragments.  Both are ListFragments and both contribute MenuItems to the Menu.  I have one MenuItem that I&#39;ve set the attribute android:showAsAction to have it show as a button on the ActionBar.  Which works fine.

Now the MenuItem is state dependent.  It&#39;s a Pause/Resume menu option for pausing and resuming a queue.  My problem is I can&#39;t figure out how to set it&#39;s initial statue when the Fragment is created.

It&#39;s state is dependent on the whether the queue is paused or not.  So I have an AsyncTask that gets the queue and sets a boolean (paused) based on the state of the queue.  I&#39;m calling onPrepareOptionsMenu to set the text for the Pause menu item based on the last known state of the queue and this works great if I leave the MenuItem in the actual menu.  You tap the menu icon and onPrepareOptionsMenu is fired and the menu is updated before it&#39;s displayed.  

The problem is, if I put that same MenuItem on the ActionBar (showAsAction), how can I force it to update without having to call onPrepareOptionsMenu?  I need to be able to do this because on first launch of the app, I send a request to get the queue, but the task returns after the ActionBar is setup and displayed.  I&#39;ve created a handler in my fragment that gets called every time I get a queue update, but from there, how can I update the text for my MenuItem on the ActionBar?  I can&#39;t seem to find a way to get the currently set Menu to manipulate it except for in onPrepareOptionMenu.

My intention is to create a menu at the top of the page which remains at the top of the page even when the user scrolls (like Gmail&#39;s recent feature which has the commonly-used buttons scrolling down with the user so that it allows them to perform operations on messages without having to scroll to the top of the page).

I hope to have the menu at the top which never moves and which stays at the top of the page, even when the user scrolls down.  I am also looking to have the main content begin beneath the menu when the user is at the top of the page, but when the user scrolls down, then it doesn&#39;t matter if the menu goes over the top of the content.

Summary:

- I wish to have a fixed position menu at the top of the page which follows the user when scrolling.
- Content must appear BELOW the menu ONLY when the user is at the top of the page.
  - When the user scrolls down, the menu may overlap the content.

Can somebody please explain how to achieve this?

At present, I can get the menu to appear at the top of the page and centered by placing it inside my `container` `div`.  However, the content goes behind the menu.  I have set `clear: both;` and this has not helped.

Place a dividing line in a menu in WPF

I used `ActivityCompat.invalidateOptionsMenu(MainActivity.this);` so that my menu item &quot;refresh&quot;  can automatically be enabled/disabled without the using have to touch the &quot;Menu&quot; option (imagine the user leaves the Menu open... I need the &quot;Refresh&quot; menu item to automatically disabled and enable itself). 

The `ActivityCompat.invalidateOptionsMenu(MainActivity.this)` works fine in Android 11+. But what can I use for android API &lt; 11 ? :S I&#39;ve searched so much but I cannot find an answer. Can anyone please help me on this? 

This works fine in Android API 11+, using the `onPrepareOptionsMenu` and `ActivityCompat.invalidateOptionsMenu(MainActivity.this)`. 
The issue is trying to get it done in Android API &lt; 11.

Here is my `onPrepareOptionsMenu` method:

I have a list view connected to a database, showing a all the entries. I want a menu to show up if the user long clicks a item in the listview(database entry), showing options to edit or delete the entry. how can i do this. 

Till now, I have tried using a onItemLongClick listener and a toast in it showing the id of the view long clicked.

creating a menu after a long click event on a list view

I plan to use quick actions UI pattern in my application. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3059155/android-quick-actions-ui-pattern . The quick action window needs a pivot view to stick to.

I intend to use quick action for the menu Item, I can get access to the item that is clicked. 
But the problem is i need to reference a view from the menu item so that i can pass it to the quick action.

I&#39;ve been scanning around trying to find an appropriate solution for assigning &quot;active/current&quot; class to menu items from the master page.  The line is split down the middle with regards of whether to do this client vs server side.

Truthfully I&#39;m new to both JavaScript and MVC so i don&#39;t have an opinion. I would prefer to do this in the &quot;cleanest&quot; and most appropriate way.

I have the following jQuery code to assign the &quot;active&quot; class to the &amp;lt;li&amp;gt; item...the only problem is the &quot;index&quot; or default view menu item will always be assigned the active class, because the URL is always a substring of the other menu links:

Searchview doesn&#39;t work since app compat

Within my apps I often enable/disable menu entries and do make them visible from onPrepareOptionsMenu.

Today I started to add the android:showAsAction menu attribute to some of my Android 2.x apps to show menu entries used most on the ActionBar.

The ActionBar does not reflect the enable/disable and visibility immediately. I need to click on the menu dropdown on the right to see this change happen.

Ok, I do understand that the menu fires onPrepareOptionsMenu. But what do I need to do to refresh the ActionBar? I think this change needs to be applied from within onOptionsItemSelected but I don&#39;t know what I should call.

Android Create a simple menu programmatically

In pretty much all applications that have a menu bar, some of the items have an ellipsis (...) after them, and some don&#39;t. Is there a well known convention on when to put that ellipsis there and when not to? When do you do it? Do you do it?

I have looked at various windows applications, and this is what I have come to:

- **Ellipsis**
 - Menu items which opens a form that require user input to do something (Replace, Go to, Font)

- **No ellipsis**
 - Menu items which just does something (Cut, Paste, Exit, Save)
 - Menu items which opens a form that does not require user input (About, Check for Updates)

But then there always seems to be menu items that doesn&#39;t follow this rule. For example the Help items (How do I, Search, Index) and the Find and Replace (Quick Find, Find in Files, Find Symbol) in Visual Studio.

So after thinking about it a bit more I now think this might be the thing:

- **Ellipsis**
 - Menu items that will definitely open a modal window.

- **No Ellipsis**
 - Menu items that opens a non-modal window.
 - Menu items that doesn&#39;t open any window.
 - Menu items that most likely won&#39;t open a modal window (Like Save, which does open a modal window if you haven&#39;t saved before or something like that, but otherwise don&#39;t)

What do you guys think?

Using twitter bootstrap, and I need to initiate active class to the li portion of the main nav. Automagically.
We use php not ruby.

Twitter Bootstrap add active class to li

I am working on adding a menu to a map. The menu is working fine except I noticed there is always a padding to the left no matter what CSS applied to the menu. The padding seems to be originated from (-webkit-padding-start: 40px;) and it does not want to go away. I tried to override it with `0 !important;` that didn&#39;t do anything.


After Googling found this:

[-webkit-padding-start: 40px; What it should be for IE and Firefox?][1]

However could not find anything else on how to override or make this go away. I need to have items in the menu all the way to the left.
