I have a series of 20 plots (not subplots) to be made in a single figure.  I want the legend to be outside of the box.  At the same time, I do not want to change the axes, as the size of the figure gets reduced.  Kindly help me for the following queries:
 
 1.  I want to keep the legend box outside the plot area. (I want the legend to be outside at the right side of the plot area).
 2.  Is there anyway that I reduce the font size of the text inside the legend box, so that the size of the legend box will be small.

I have a plot with two y-axes, using `twinx()`. I also give labels to the lines, and want to show them with `legend()`, but I only succeed to get the labels of one axis in the legend:

Secondary axis with twinx(): how to add to legend?

I&#39;m trying to keep the legend of one layer (smooth) and remove the legend of the other (point). I have tried shutting off the legends with ``guides(colour = FALSE)`` and ``geom_point(aes(color = vs), show.legend = FALSE)``.

Remove legend ggplot 2.2

I&#39;m familiar with the following questions:

It seems that the answers in these questions have the luxury of being able to fiddle with the exact shrinking of the axis so that the legend fits. 

Shrinking the axes, however, is not an ideal solution because it makes the data smaller making it actually more difficult to interpret; particularly when its complex and there are lots of things going on ... hence needing a large legend

The example of a complex legend in the documentation demonstrates the need for this because the legend in their plot actually completely obscures multiple data points.

**What I would like to be able to do is dynamically expand the size of the figure box to accommodate the expanding figure legend.**

Finally, I&#39;ve been told that this is normal behaviour in R and LaTeX, so I&#39;m a little confused why this is so difficult in python... Is there a historical reason? Is Matlab equally poor on this matter?

Moving matplotlib legend outside of the axis makes it cutoff by the figure box

To add a legend to a matplotlib plot, one simply runs `legend()`.

How to **remove** a legend from a plot?

(The closest I came to this is to run `legend([])` in order to empty the legend from data. But that leaves an ugly white rectangle in the upper right corner.)

I thought about fiddling around with `layout` and produce an empty plot to only contain the legend, but I would be interested in a way using just the base graph facilities and e.g., `par(mar = )` to get some space on the right of the plot for the legend.

Add legend to ggplot2 line plot

Is there a way to change the spacing between legend items in ggplot2? I currently have

    legend.position =&quot;top&quot; 

which automatically produces a horizontal legend. However, the spacing of the items is very close together and I am wondering how to space them farther apart.

I want to plot unused levels (that is, levels where the count is 0) in my bar-plot, however, unused levels are dropped and I cannot figure out how to keep them

Guess the solution is to calculate the frequencies using table() and then plot

ggplot2 keep unused levels barplot

I am using matlibplot and I would like to manually add items to the legend that are a color and a label. I am adding data to to the plot to specifying there would lead to a lot of duplicates.

My thought was to do:

		ax2.legend(self.labels,colorList[:len(self.labels)])
        plt.legend()

Where self.labels is the number of items I want legend lables for that takes a subset of the large color list. However this yields nothing when I run it.

Am I missing anything?

How to manually create a legend

I have a simple data frame that I&#39;m trying to do a combined line and point plot using `ggplot2`. Supposing my data looks like this:

And I&#39;m trying to make a plot:

The result looks fine with one exception. It has an extra legend showing the `alpha` for my `geom_point` layer.

Remove extra legends in ggplot2

I have the following data (`temp.dat` see end note for full data)

Plot labels at ends of lines

I currently am plotting a stacked bar graph of a large amount of taxonomic data, and only wish to show significant species in the legend (out of ~500 I wish to show ~25). Is there a simple way to do this? Below is the code I have:

Currently have a ggplot2 stacked bar graph setup. Everything works properly now except I am having an issue with the legend. I have put it on the bottom but there are 10 items so some are cutoff (doesnt fit). I tried  `guides(fill=guide_legend(nrow=2))` but this puts the labels in a different order (I want to get the first 5 across then the last 5 below. Any suggestions?

I am having to reorder items in a legend, when I don&#39;t think I should have to. I try:

and end up with Bottom above Middle.  How can I get the right order? Is it not determined by creation order?

Update: The following can be used to force the order. I think this may be the simplest way to do it, and that seems awkward.  The question is what determines the original order?

Here is a very simplified example:

    for x in xvalues:

The legend will now show &#39;xvalues&#39; as a blue line 4 times in the legend.
Is there a more elegant way of fixing this than the following?

Stop matplotlib repeating labels in legend

I try to solve this problem several times and give up. Now, when I have met him again, I decided to ask for some help.

I have this code for my Legend:

    legend:
    {

If I change the return from &#39;Legend&#39; to &#39;&#39; the text is not shown but still there is a &#39;dash&#39; on the top of the legend. If I do not use label formater function  I have &#39;Series 1&#39; + &#39;dash&#39; like a first row in my legend. How to hide them?

Please, note my version is : Highcharts-2.0.5

HighCharts Hide Series Name from the Legend

I’d like to include a legend or key in my GraphViz diagram. I’m having trouble figuring out what code to use, though. I also want to put it in a corner, but the only coord I know for sure is the bottom-left: `pos=&quot;10,10!&quot;`.

Making a Legend/Key in GraphViz

I have a plot where different colors are used for different parameters, and where different line styles are used for different algorithms. The goal is to compare the results of the different algorithms performed with similar parameters. It means in total I use 4 different colors, and 3 different line styles, for a total of 12 plots on the same graph.

I actually build the legend based on colors, associating each color with the corresponding parameter. Now I&#39;d like to display a second legend on the same graph, with the meaning of each line style. It is possible to achieve that? How?

I tried changing `Line2D` to `Scatter` and `scatter`. `Scatter` returned an error and `scatter` changed the graph and returned an error.

With `scatter`, I changed the `range(10)` to the lists containing the data points. Each list contains either the x, y, or z variable.

When I run this, the legend no longer exists, it is a small white box in the corner with nothing in it.

Matplotlib scatter plot legend

I&#39;m plotting lines with ggplot2 like this:

    ggplot(iris, aes(Petal.Width,Petal.Length,color=Species)) + geom_line() + theme_bw()

I find legend marks to be small so I want them to be bigger. If I change the size, lines on the plot change too:

    ggplot(iris, aes(Petal.Width,Petal.Length,color=Species)) + geom_line(size=4) + theme_bw()

But I only want to see thick lines in the legend, I want lines on the plot to be thin. I tried to use `legend.key.size` but it changes the square of the mark, not the width of the line:

2. How to draw lines in the plot, but draw points/dots/squares in the legend?

Control ggplot2 legend look without affecting the plot

I am plotting 20 different lines on a single plot using matplotlib. I use a for loop for plotting and label every line with its key and then use the legend function

    for key in dict.keys():
        plot(x,dict[key], label = key)
    graph.legend()

But using this way, the graph repeats a lot of colors in the legend. Is there any way to ensure a unique color is assigned to each line using matplotlib and over 20 lines?

I have a legend in a plot with a line (from an abline-statement) going through it. How can I achieve that the abline gets invisible in proximity of the legend? This should be achievable by setting the legend background white, without borders, but how can I achieve this?
Assume the graph should look like this:

How can I remove the legend title in ggplot2?
