I can&#39;t seem to figure this out. I have a .dot file, which is valid according to the syntax. How do I use graphviz to convert this into an image?

(note that I&#39;m on Windows, not linux)

I downloaded `Graphviz 2.38` MSI version and installed under folder `C:\Python34`, then I run `pip install Graphviz`, everything went well. In system&#39;s path I added `C:\Python34\bin`. When I tried to run a test script, in line `filename=dot.render(filename=&#39;test&#39;)`, I got a message

     RuntimeError: failed to execute [&#39;dot&#39;, &#39;-Tpdf&#39;, &#39;-O&#39;, &#39;test&#39;], make sure the Graphviz executables are on your systems&#39; path

I tried to put `&quot;C:\Python34\bin\dot.exe&quot;` in system&#39;s path, but it didn&#39;t work, and I even created a new environment variable `&quot;GRAPHVIZ_DOT&quot;` with value `&quot;C:\Python34\bin\dot.exe&quot;`, still not working. I tried to uninstall Graphviz and ```pip uninstall graphviz```, then reinstall it and pip install again, but nothing works. 

The whole traceback message is:

In the `DOT` language for `GraphViz`, I&#39;m trying to represent a dependency diagram. I need to be able to have nodes inside a container and to be able to make nodes and/or containers dependent on other nodes and/or containers.

I&#39;m using `subgraph` to represent my containers. Node linking works just fine, but I can&#39;t figure out how to connect subgraphs.

Given the program below, I need to be able to connect `cluster_1` and `cluster_2` with an arrow, but anything I&#39;ve tried creates new nodes instead of connecting the clusters:

GraphViz - How to connect subgraphs?

I am trying to draw a graph using Graphviz, but I need to add labels on the edges. There does not seem to be any way to that in Graphviz. 
Are there a way out?

Is anyone aware of a pure, Javascript based implementation of the directional flow diagrams that GraphViz is capable of generating? I am NOT interested in pretty visuals output, but the computations to figure out the maximum depth of each node, along with the layout of bezier lines that are optimized to minimize the number of intersecting edges when you are dealing with a graph rather than a tree of information.  I would like to run this code both within a browser; I am aware that I could easily embed Graphviz into my Node server as an extension, or even `popen()` it and stream over graph information in the `.dot` format.

For reference, here is a typical GraphViz output. Note how elements are stacked and spaced out to allow the connecting lines to travel between nodes, without intersecting (very often) or passing through nodes.

Pure JavaScript Graphviz equivalent 

Just installed a package through anaconda (`conda install graphviz`), but ipython wouldn&#39;t find it.

I can see a graphviz folder in `C:\Users\username\Anaconda\pkgs`

But there&#39;s nothing in: `C:\Users\username\Anaconda\Lib\site-packages`

I have been searching for some material that describes how to generate simple class diagrams with doxygen, but couldn&#39;t find one. Can anybody help?

I need to create diagrams as shown below from a set of C++ files.

First of all, I am new to MacOS, and what I want is to be able to see the output of `llc -view-dag-combine1-dags sum.ll`. On Mac, [llc][1] will generate dot in `/tmp` directory, and try open App to show the dot file.
I have tried [Graphviz][2], but it doesn&#39;t work (the program crash). I would like try something else, like [xdot][3] for example. I install it by `brew install xdot`, but don&#39;t know how to let the MacOS use the `xdot` I just installed to open the dot file.

Or any other better tool to view the dot file? I would like to keep thing as simple as possible.

How to open dot on Mac

I am using Graphviz 2.30. Horizontal positioning for labels works out, but in a few cases, a modified angle would be desired.

For instance, I tried various values for angle here but without any effect:

    ABB -&gt; ABACUS[label=&quot;applied&quot;, fontname=&quot;Arial&quot;, fontsize=15, labelangle=110];

How can I display labels in line with (i.e. parallel to) the edge when using a Graphviz `digraph`. 

The entire `digraph` will not be posted due to an NDA. In addition, the rotation will be applied only to a few labels.

I have read similar threads like [this][1] or [another][2] (or a thread about alignment for instance) but without any help regarding my issue.

Display labels in line with the edge when using Graphviz

Here is a very simplified example of my Dot graph:

    strict digraph graphName {
    A-&gt;B
    B-&gt;A
    }


This creates

Instead I want a single edge shown between A and B but with a double arrow head.  I know how to get the double arrowhead as a global option:

    strict digraph graphName {
      edge [dir=&quot;both&quot;]
    A-&gt;B
    B-&gt;A
    }

But that looks very ugly, and not all of my edges should be dual headed.

If I do more processing of the graph and detect the double reference myself and replace the two edges with a single edge, it looks OK.  But I&#39;d rather not have to do this extra step

Dot graph language - how to make bidirectional edges automatically?

I am wondering if I can define an alternative font for the whole graph.

According to this [1] older post the fontname atribute can be defined only separately:

why doesn&#39;t fillcolor work with graphviz?

I need advice for rendering an undirected graph with 178,000 nodes and 500,000 edges.  I&#39;ve tried Neato, Tulip, and Cytoscape.  Neato doesn&#39;t even come remotely close, and Tulip and Cytoscape claim they can handle it but don&#39;t seem to be able to.  (Tulip does nothing and Cytoscape claims to be working, and then just stops.)

I&#39;d just like a vector format file (ps or pdf) with a remotely reasonable layout of the nodes.

Why is pydot unable to find GraphViz&#39;s executables in Windows 8?

I have a graph I&#39;ve created in graphviz, but the problem is that edges overlap each other (I have 5-7 nodes in each row), so it is hard to tell for each node which are the nodes it connects.

How can I make the edges not to overlap each other? Have them cross each other is OK.

I&#39;m looking for alternatives to GraphViz. I&#39;ve been using GraphViz for more than a decade and it&#39;s okay, but the layouts are just not producing publication-quality graphs for me given my input data. Sometimes my data is really big and complex, and sometimes it isn&#39;t, but GraphViz never really makes stuff that&#39;s beautiful.

What other graph visualization tools are people using? Ideally there&#39;s one that uses the GraphViz syntax for input file.

I am trying to force position of nodes. I have x and y coordinates of my nodes and its also directed graph. I can use the rank=same to handle row (y coordinate), but can&#39;t figure out how I can handle column (x coordinate).

My daughters have made a game not unlike tic-tac-toe.  Of course as I played it with them I started brute-forcing it in my head...

So at lunchtime I made a quick little Python script to &#39;solve&#39; the game.  And I wanted to see the results graphically, so I generated a dot file of all legal moves:

When I try and render it using `dot`, it takes forever and I abort it after a few hours.

If I render it using `neato` or `sfdp` etc, it takes a few seconds or less but the layout is impossible to actually read:

    sfdp -x -Tpng data.dot &gt; data.png

I would be happy for the resulting image to be several megapixels.

How can I lay out and render such a big graph?  I am open to non-dot suggestions, like Python libraries that can do the layout too.

laying out a large graph with graphviz

I&#39;ve made a tree in the dot language, similar to the one [here][1].

Is there any way I could get the tree to expand to the right, instead of downwards (so the root node is on the left and children go along to the right).

Horizontal Trees in Graphviz

In my Graphviz graph (written in DOT), I want each node to have a label, but in addition to that, I want some nodes to have a small caption denoting some other unique value for that node. For example, if this were for a history diagram, a node&#39;s label might be something like &quot;Birth of George Washington&quot; and the caption might read &quot;See also: American Revolution.&quot;

This is fairly flexible, so the caption doesn&#39;t necessarily need to be inside the node, but I do need some other way of putting text that clearly isn&#39;t part of the label (e.g. is a different size, possibly a different color) and is in a different location but is still clearly a part of the node.

Is there any way to do this?

Does anyone have any general tips for reducing the size of a graph generated by graphviz (size as in area, not as in file size).

I have a fairly large graph (700 nodes). I set a smaller font size for each node, but it seems to only reduce the font size and not the actual node size. Are there any attributes to reduce the overall amount of blank space in the graph also? Thanks!

I am trying to draw a graph with Graphviz.

I wish to draw a dotted line around a set of vertices, symbolizing that they are a part of a bigger entity.

Say for example, if I have three vertices as eggs, chicken and ham, I should be able to draw a dotted line around all three of them, and label that border as food.

I tried

    $ dot -Tpng rel_graph.gv &gt; rel_graph.png

but the resulting image has a very low quality.

I have seen similar issue but it is not solved either, so I decided to ask.

I am trying to visualize my model in keras using

    from keras.utils import plot_model
    plot_model(model, to_file=&#39;model.png&#39;)

First, it showed error

    ImportError: Failed to import pydot. You must install pydot and graphviz for `pydotprint` to work.

Accordingly, I installed  pydot and graphviz through Anaconda prompt activating my environment using

    conda install -c https://conda.binstar.org/t/TOKEN/j14r pydot
    conda install -c https://conda.binstar.org/t/TOKEN/j14r graphviz

Then, I closed spyder and reopened it. When I run code snippet, it is still showing the same error. 
What am I missing?

I want to render several trees simultaneously and place all root nodes and all leaf nodes on the same level.

Here&#39;s an example of what I&#39;m trying to do. Root nodes A and X are on the same level, and so are leaf nodes B, D, and Z.

I unsuccessfully tried putting roots in one rank and leaves in another as follows:

    digraph G { 
    rankdir = TB;

    C -&gt; D
    X -&gt; Y

And got this outcome where everything is on the same rank.

How do I place nodes on the same level in DOT?

Is there an Open Source java alternative to GraphViz? I&#39;m aware of the existence of Grappa which basically wraps the Graph interface to GraphViz as an JavaAPI. However the layouting is still done by the GraphViz binaries.

I&#39;m looking for a pure-java, open source library providing the same functions and layouting algorithms as GraphViz.

I&#39;m using graphviz to visualize the AST of a language I&#39;m parsing. I want to include the source code (as a label) but graphviz aligns the text inside the label, which messes with my indentation (and code is indentation-sensitive). Here&#39;s an example of the problem, the second line of code should not be indented:

As you can see, some of the boxes in the graphic have a lot of text in the label. I can insert `\n` characters to make sure the boxes aren&#39;t too wide, but I&#39;m wondering if there is a way I can set the width of the boxes and then have the box labels do a hard wrap. Is this possible?


Text wrapping with dot (graphviz)

I want to use **[Graphviz][1]** + **[Doxygen][2]** to generate a class diagram based on C++ code. This works already as Doxygen comes with a native DOT support; but is it possible, to produce a **UML-like output** with the corresponding access modificators (public, private etc.), return and parameter types of the class methods, similar to the diagram below?

I&#39;m aware of thread https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4755913/how-to-use-doxygen-to-create-uml-class-diagrams-from-c-source, but it doesn&#39;t answer the question, though.
