I&#39;m trying to run some JavaFX code with Eclipse Kepler, with [e(fx)clipse][1] plugin installed, on a Linux machine, using:

    java version &quot;1.7.0_21&quot;
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.3.9) (7u21-2.3.9-5)
    OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)

My understanding is that although JavaFX has been included with the standard JDK since version JDK 7u6, the JavaFX runtime JAR file, jfxrt.jar, was left off of the Java runtime path on purpose until further testing between JavaFX and rest of the java infrastructure has been completed. For this reason you must manually add it to the project build path libraries when we create a new Java project.

I&#39;ve been looking for that jar in both the following directories without success:

    /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-common/jre/lib/
    /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/lib

Where else should I look for it?

What&#39;s the location of the JavaFX runtime JAR file, jfxrt.jar, on Linux?

I would like to remove or change the default text shown by an empty javafx table from `No content in table` to something more meaningful for the user. 

For example in a table showing students, when there are no students to show I want it to say &quot;No students in database&quot; or &quot;Student has no courses&quot; for a courses table. I don&#39;t know if this is possible in javafx, either through java code, using scene builder, or by editing the .fxml file in an IDE. So far I have looked at the properties of the tableview in scene builder and I can&#39;t see a related property for this text

I want to save a file before closing my JavaFX application.

This is how I&#39;m setting up the handler in `Main::start`:

    primaryStage.setOnCloseRequest(event -&gt; {

And the controller calling `Stage::close` when a button is pressed:

    @FXML
    public void exitApplication(ActionEvent event) {

If I close the window clicking the red X on the window border (the normal way) then I get the output message &quot;`Stage is closing`&quot;, which is the desired behavior.

However, when calling `Controller::exitApplication` the application closes without invoking the handler (there&#39;s no output).

How can I make the controller use the handler I&#39;ve added to `primaryStage`?

I need to resize an image to specific dimensions, 100 by 100 pixels for example, in JavaFX. 

How can I achieve that? Could the Image or the ImageView class be used for this purpose?

I have a `BorderPane` with a `ScrollPane` as the center element. It resizes automatically to fill the screen. Inside the `ScrollPane` is a `HBox` that has no content but is a drag-and-drop target. Therefore I want it to fill its parent `ScrollPane`.

What is the preferred way to do this?

What I have tried so far is overriding the `ScrollPane.resize(...)` method to resize the `HBox` but it seems rather complicated and unorthodox.

edit: To add some useful code to this, this is how I can workaround the problem, but I believe there has to be some better way to do this:

How to resize JavaFX ScrollPane content to fit current size

I&#39;m trying to remove the border glow (please see screenshot below) that appears by default when a JavaFX button is selected:

I also want to do this using CSS, and not declaratively from within the main JavaFX script. However, I am having trouble figuring out what CSS property I need to use (er, set to 0?) in order to remove that border.

How do I remove the default border glow of a JavaFX button (when selected)?

It&#39;s been a couple of years since I&#39;ve done any Java work, my last efforts were using Swing.  I&#39;m poking around with a cross-platform client app that will interact with a Rails web service.  JavaFX is one of the options I&#39;m considering, but I&#39;m concerned at the out-of-the-box aesthetic.  Does JavaFX have a native look and feel option for the JavaFX controls (not Swing)?

I&#39;m getting the impression that if I want to build a line of business application in Java, I should probably stick with Swing which is a shame since I like some of the features of JavaFX like binding, a terse syntax, and easy support for REST client programming.

As you can see on the picture the text alignment for each colum is set to left alignment. Is there any way to change this? So far I&#39;ve tried within my CSS file:

JavaFX TableView text alignment

My project has different modules.

 - Each module has a pom.xml which specifies jar packaging. 
 - Each pom refers to common parent.
 - In the parent module there is also a pom.xml which includes all the modules.

When I tried to package using the pom.xml of the parent module, it shows the error - &quot;Packaging jar is invalid Aggregator project need pom as packaging&quot;.

How can I pass parameters to a secondary window in javafx? Is there a way to communicate with the corresponding controller?

For example:
The user chooses a customer from a `TableView` and a new window is opened, showing the customer&#39;s info.

`newStage` would be the new window. The problem is, I can&#39;t find a way to tell the controller where to look for the customer&#39;s info (by passing the id as parameter).

I have a very big program that is currently using SWT. The program can be run on both Windows, Mac and Linux, and it is a big desktop application with many elements.
Now SWT being somewhat old I would like to switch to either Swing or JavaFX. And I would like to hear your thoughts on three things.

My main concern is what will be better for a desktop GUI application? (I looked online and a lot of people suggest that JavaFX is just as good as Swing, but I didn&#39;t see many valid arguments except simple opinion flame wars). It has to work on both Windows, Mac and some popular Linux distributions.

 - What will be cleaner and easier to maintain?

 - and what will be faster to build from scratch?

I am using MVC methology in my application, if that is of any help.

I&#39;m trying to decide whether I could switch to JavaFX for the user interface of my Java application. Most of my users would be using the Oracle JRE, which has JavaFX integrated these days. However, some are using OpenJDK (on linux). [This](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1927173/distributing-deploying-javafx-apps) (old) question suggests that OpenJDK deals very badly with JavaFX. According to [this](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15654271/javafx-on-linux) question, the alternative OpenJFX will only be fully integrated into OpenJDK in version 9. So my question is twofold:

* Is the JavaFX support in OpenJDK still so bad?
* If so, are there any Linux distributions that already offer an OpenJFX package so users wouldn&#39;t have to [build it themselves](https://wiki.openjdk.java.net/display/OpenJFX/Building+OpenJFX)?

I have created a new JavaFX project in IntelliJ using JDK 11. My JavaFX classes were not known so I have added the OpenJFX library by doing :

- File -&gt; Project Structure -&gt; Modules -&gt; + -&gt; Library -&gt; Java

I have the OpenJFX added with the 8 jars below &quot;classes&quot; and also the folders below &quot;Sources&quot; and the path to the bin folder under &quot;Native Library Locations&quot;.

When I&#39;m building the project, it&#39;s good, but impossible to run it. 

What am I doing wrong?

I&#39;m mostly a C# programmer, I stopped writing Java about 10 years ago, but I try to keep up with the technology in Java by reading articles, talking with friends, etc.

I&#39;ve heard about the new rich GUI framework called JavaFX, but couldn&#39;t find any resource comparing it with non-Java parallels.

Since I&#39;m very familiar with C# and WPF, I&#39;d like to get a feel about how similar or different the two technologies are.

EDIT: Seeing as there&#39;s no answers coming, I&#39;ll try to be more specific:

1. WPF uses XAML to create the visual tree, does JavaFX have something similar?
2. WPF is best used with binding to a view model in an MVVM pattern, does JavaFX also make extensive use of binding?
3. WPF utilizes the GPU for rendering, does JavaFX do the same?
4. How does Silverlight compare to JavaFX when run through a browser on a net pc?

How does JavaFX compare to WPF?

I want to handle stage events (i.e. hiding) from my controller class. So all I have to do is to add a listener like this:

    ((Stage) myPane.getScene().getWindow()).setOn*whatIwant*(...);

But the problem is that initialization starts right after this code:

    Parent root = FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getResource(&quot;MyGui.fxml&quot;));

And before this code:

    Scene scene = new Scene(root);
    stage.setScene(scene);

Thus `getScene` returns null.

The only workaround I found by myself is to add a listener to `myPane.sceneProperty`, and when it becomes not null I get scene, add to it&#39;s `windowProperty` my listener handling which I finally retrieve stage. And it all ends with setting desired listeners to stage events.

I think there are too many listeners.

Is it the only way to solve my problem?

Platform.runLater and Task in JavaFX

In JavaFX, if I have a scene with 2 `VBox` elements and each `VBox` has multiple `Label` in it.  
If I set the top `VBox` to **invisible**, why does the bottom `VBox` **not move up** the scene where the top `VBox` was ?  

The `VBox` is **invisible** but I would expect the other objects to move into its place.

I am using FXML to load my controls.

JavaFX - setVisible hides the element but doesn&#39;t rearrange adjacent nodes

I am trying to find the elusive JavaFX scene builder so I can use it in Intellij. I am on Windows OS.

Oracle have stated that the JavaFX scene builder is included in a new download, but no matter how I search I cannot find it (see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/downloads/index.html). I think they have linked to the incorrect page and Googling for it is getting me nowhere.

I already have Java 8 SDK installed and working fine. Apparently JavaFX is now included in that, but nowhere in the Java folder can I find the scene builder and it seems to be completely missing online.

Please can anyone help? I am just wanting to write a small GUI program and it seems like JavaFX is the way to go (if it isn&#39;t then feel free to disabuse me of this notion!)

Where has the JavaFX scene builder gone?

I&#39;m having trouble getting IntellJ to recognize JavaFX packages. With a new JavaFX project, with OpenJDK 11, when trying to build the project, IntelliJ can&#39;t recognize the JavaFX packages.

I&#39;ve imported `openjfx:javafx-base-11` from the Maven repo.

I&#39;ve looked at other questions and the solutions seem to range from checking that the bytecode is at the right level (mine is), and that the project language is correct (mine is).

Anyone have any ideas?

IntelliJ can&#39;t recognize JavaFX 11 with OpenJDK 11

I recently downloaded JDK 1.8.0.0_06 that comes bundled with NetBeans. I then got to find out that my JavaFx project, that I have been developing in Java 1.7 won&#39;t compile in Java 1.8, and so I stepped down my JDK to 1.7. Still I can&#39;t get it to work/ compile. I get this error:

	javac: invalid target release: 1.8
	Usage: javac &lt;options&gt; &lt;source files&gt;

I&#39;m really stuck and would greatly appreciate any help.

I tried to create a **JavaFX** application in IntelliJ Idea IDE but I got compile error that said:

&gt; java: package javafx.application does not exist. 

I have changed the Project SDK and the Project Language Level to Java 8, reloaded the project but it didn&#39;t help. Then I checked if JavaFX plugin was enabled in the settings.

The search on Google and StackOverflow didn&#39;t give me more ideas of what is wrong.

cannot resolve symbol javafx.application in IntelliJ Idea IDE

When trying to use javafx related classes in my new java 8 project I get an access restriction error from eclipse. So far the only &#39;solution&#39; I&#39;ve been able to find is to tell eclipse to ignore the access restriction, but I am not satisfied with that.
An example of the error: 

    Access restriction: The type Pane is not accessible due to 
    restriction on required library C:\Program Files\Java\jre8_0\lib\ext\jfxrt.jar

I&#39;m using Eclipse Kepler with the Eclipse JDT patch for java 8.

This seems to be an issue related to the fact that JavaFX is not a part of the JavaSE execution environment.

I am now toughly confused as according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaFX javaFX is a part of the JavaSE. Is it possible that Eclipse is not recognizing that it is a part of the javaSE?

Using JavaFX in JRE 8, “Access restriction” error

In Swing you can simply use `setDefaultCloseOperation()` to shut down the entire application when the window is closed.

However in JavaFX I can&#39;t find an equivalent. I have multiple windows open and I want to close the entire application if a window is closed. What is the way to do that in JavaFX?

Edit:

I understand that I can override `setOnCloseRequest()` to perform some operation on window close. The question is what operation should be performed to terminate the entire application?

The `stop()` method defined in `Application` class does nothing.

Why is JavaFX is not included in OpenJDK 8 on Ubuntu Wily (15.10)?

I try to run in JavaFX application background thread periodically, which modifies some GUI property.

I think I know how to use `Task` and `Service` classes from `javafx.concurrent` and can&#39;t figure it out how to run such periodic task without using `Thread#sleep()` method. It would be nice if I can use some `Executor` from `Executors` fabricate methods (`Executors.newSingleThreadScheduledExecutor()`)

I tried to run `Runnable` every 5 sec, which restarts `javafx.concurrent.Service` but it hangs immediately as `service.restart` or even `service.getState()` is called.

So finally I use `Executors.newSingleThreadScheduledExecutor()`, which fires my `Runnable` every 5 sec and that `Runnable` runs another `Runnable` using:

    Platform.runLater(new Runnable() {
     //here i can modify GUI properties
    }

It looks very nasty :( Is there a better way to do this using `Task` or `Service` classes?

JavaFX periodic background task

I have done some research on JavaFX over the last year, and even built some basic desktop apps with it. 

It&#39;s described as being used to create RIAs (Rich Internet Application).

I have an element with the ID `history` type of `TableView`. How can I find and access this object if I have the instance  of `Scene scene`?

Visually they are exactly identical - the only difference is that one has the semi-transparent background in some of the pixels (you can download the images to check it).

But when I use those images as an image cursor on JavaFX nodes, I get the following result:

First cursor (without partially transparent pixels) is still crisp, but the second gets distorted.

After fighting with the problem for a while, I discovered the algorithm that accounts for this difference - blending mode:

* &quot;Expected&quot; way (that you can see in this browser, for example) is to take the sum of values per channel, weighted by alpha values: `(1 - alpha) * background_color + alpha * foreground_color`.

* &quot;JavaFX Cursor&quot; gives the different formula: `(1 - alpha) * background_color + alpha^2 * foreground_color` (note the square).

I discovered the distortion, but I can&#39;t figure out what I did wrong and how I can correct this problem.

Why is javafx mangling my semi-transparent cursors?

So, cutting my teeth on JavaFX, so far things are moving along fine.

However, all of the text fields have a line running across them, 10px or so from the top.

Not just in my application, but in the SceneBuilder application as well.

Note, I&#39;m not using any explicit CSS, I don&#39;t know what SceneBuilder uses. The screen shot is from SceneBuilder, my screens look identical.

Edit: I downloaded the samples, it&#39;s clearly something to do with the Modena theme. The Caspian theme looks just fine. Below is a screenshot from the Modena.jar TextFields section. It&#39;s interesting that the `TextArea` suffers a similar issue, though not as universally as the `TextField`.

All my JavaFX TextFields have lines in them

I have been trying to display a marker on the map when I click on a Button of my JavaFX application. So what happens is when I click on that button, I write the position in a JSON file, this file will be loaded in the html file that contains the map. The problem is that it works perfectly when I open the html page in the browser, but nothing happens in the JavaFX&#39;s web view, and I don&#39;t know why !

When I click the button, I fill the JSON file (which works perfectly) and then I execute this to refresh the webview:

As I said before, when I open the file on the browser I see the expected result, but I don&#39;t know what is the problem with the JavaFX.
If there is a better way to do this please tell me.

**EDIT:**

I found a solution to the problem by sending directly the data (the GPS coordinates) from JavaFX to Javascript using the executeScript() method, so I don&#39;t need a json file as bridge between the two platforms.
So this is an example of how the code looks like:

Google Maps &amp; JavaFX: Display marker on the map after clicking JavaFX button

I have this common issue, as it appears to be. My table view wont refresh my items after I reset them. I have checked the data and it&#39;s the new one. 

**I tried multiple solution from internet but no success.** 

Can&#39;t reset all the columns because it adds one empty one extra (dont know why) and the resize just breakes.

My table is not **editable**. The new data is changed.

The data is refreshed if I **change the ordering** of the items and the rows change (:|).

I&#39;m just left without ideas.

At the moment the refresh code is pretty simple.

Again the new data is correct. When I make an selection to the tableView it returns the new correct Item.

I came across a little problem now with JavaFX. I tried to make a filechoosing in my code where I can point on a FOLDER instead of a file. Currently I don&#39;t have a solution for it. Do you know a workaround (except using JFileChooser from swing)?

close fxml window by code, javafx

I&#39;m trying to create a JFX11 self-containing jar using maven dependencies. From the research I&#39;ve done, it seems the best way to do this is through the maven shade plugin. However, When I run it, I get the this error:

Error: JavaFX runtime components are missing, and are required to run this application

I don&#39;t understand why this is happening. What am I messing up? Is there a better way to do this? I&#39;ve also tried the maven assembly plugin with the same message.

Maven Shade JavaFX runtime components are missing

I have problem when trying to close current scene and open up another scene when menuItem is selected. My main stage is coded as below:

However, I can only switch the stage once. For example, my default page is cartHomePage.fxml. When I run the program, first I go to create product stage. After that, I cannot go to anywhere any more. The error message is:

    java.lang.IllegalStateException: Location is not set.
    and Null Pointer Exception

I did set the stage after I close it and pass it around. I wonder which part went wrong.

The documentation says:  

  - Label is a non-editable text control.  
  - The Text class defines a node that displays a text.

But the Label class has a method &quot;setText&quot; and &quot;textProperty&quot;, therefore is editable.

Below code snippets is giving me error `Not on FX application thread; currentThread `=` JavaFX` `Application Thread`.This application was working fine in java 1.7 but when i moved it to fx8 it is now giving error. when I start the application on my 1st attempt it is working as intended .But after closing the stage and opening it again it is not working. 

The error is also ambiguous `Not On fx application thread  and current thread- javafx` `application thread`.What  did it mean by not on fx application thread if the current thread is a fx application thread.

In Swing, we can disable a button like this:
