I&#39;m building an app using meteor.js and MongoDB and I have a question about cursor.forEach().
I want to check some conditions in the beginning of each forEach iteration and then skip the element if I don&#39;t have to do the operation on it so I can save some time.

Here is my code:

I know I could turn cursor to array using cursor.find().fetch() and then use regular for-loop to iterate over elements and use continue and break normally but I&#39;m interested if there is something similiar to use in forEach().

Learning Ember.js / Backbone.js has been on my to-do list for a while. Now that [Meteor][1] is out, I am just wondering if anyone with experience of Meteor, Ember.js and Backbone.js can summarize the key differences and pros and cons of these three JavaScript frameworks for a person without any experience for any of them. 

Specifically, I would like to know which tasks each framework is more suitable for, and why the others aren&#39;t.

Edit: now that I read a little bit more on Meteor, it seems to be more similar to Knockout.js rather than Backbone.js. So any comparison with Knockout.js is welcome too.

Is there some large open source Meteor project with many different HTML template files we can use as a best practice example? I&#39;m testing my GraphQL api using Jest.

I&#39;m using a separate test suit for each query/mutation

I have 2 tests (each one in a separate test suit) where I mock one function (namely, Meteor&#39;s `callMethod`) that is used in mutations.

When I `console.log(result)` I get

This behaviour is not what I want because in `.mockReturnValue` I throw an Error and therefore expect `result` to have an error object

Before this test, however, another is ran

          .mockName(&#39;callMethod&#39;);

And it works fine, the error is thrown

I guess the problem is that mock doesn&#39;t get reset after the test finishes.
In my `jest.conf.js` I have   `clearMocks: true`


Each test suit is in a separate file, and I mock functions before tests like this:

**UPDATE**

When I substituted `.mockReturnValue` with `.mockImplementation` everything worked out as expected:

    callMethod.mockImplementation(() =&gt; {
      throw new Error(&#39;User not found&#39;);
    });

But that doesn&#39;t explain why in another test `.mockReturnValue` works fine...

How to properly make mock throw an error in Jest?

prior to posting this question, I tried to search in sqa stackexchange but I found no post about shallow and render there, so I hope someone can help me out here.

When should I use shallow and render in testing react components?
Based on the airbnb docs, I&#39;ve made some opinions on the difference of the two:

1. Since shallow is testing components **as a unit**, so it should be used for &#39;parent&#39; components. (ex. Tables, Wrappers, etc.)

2. Render is for child components.

The reason I asked this question, is that I&#39;m having a hard time to figure out which one I should use (though the docs say that they&#39;re very similar)

So, how do I know which one to use in a specific scenario?

I&#39;m super new to React and I&#39;m trying to get it set up for Meteor and piecing stuff together from other sources too. One of these other sources set up console logging for the app, but I&#39;m going the ES6/JSX way so just using their code wouldn&#39;t work for me (or it doesn&#39;t seem like it does).

Some code I found for logging is

    import Logger from &#39;simple-console-logger&#39;;
    Logger.configure({level: &#39;debug&#39;});

but I&#39;m seeing this error

I also tried using `react-logger` and `react-console-logger` to no avail. Here&#39;s my code for the latter, which I believe should work.

Console logging for react?

So I&#39;ve been hearing/reading alot about meteor.js.  The tutorials make it seem very sporty as a framework, but I&#39;m still a bit of a novice when it comes to web programming.

I&#39;ve been trying over the last month and half to really learn node.js and figure out how it all comes together.  I like the how fast and easy it is to get up and running, and the community that comes along with it (which is exemplified by the mind blowing number of frameworks you can get for Node).

But what about meteor?  What are the real advantages of it, and what&#39;s the difference?  Has anyone started as a node.js user and &#39;converted&#39; or is it still more of a curious new framework?

I&#39;ve got a simple app set up that shows a list of `Projects`. I&#39;ve removed the `autopublish` package so that I&#39;m not sending everything to the client.

**Update: I found the following procedure works on my Linux machine:**

1. When you run Meteor, it will spawn two processes

   process1: /usr/lib/meteor/bin/node /usr/lib/meteor/app/meteor/meteor.js

   process2: /usr/lib/meteor/bin/node /home/paul/codes/bbtest_code/bbtest02/.meteor/local/build/main.js --keepalive

2. You need to send kill -s USR1 on process2

3. Run node-inspector and you can see your server code

On my first try, I modify the last line on meteor startup script in /usr/lib/meteor/bin/meteor to

    exec &quot;$DEV_BUNDLE/bin/node&quot; $NODE_DEBUG &quot;$METEOR&quot; &quot;$@&quot;

and run `NODE_DEBUG=--debug meteor` on command prompt. This only put --debug flag on process1 so I only see meteor files on node-inspector and could not find my code.

I have pretty simple command which is working fine standalone as a command or bash script but not when I put it in crontab

I tried to change the url of script to `/usr/bin/scirpts/` no luck

I even tried to run script directly in cron

with no luck, any help appreciated.

I am working on my first project using Meteor, and am having some difficulty with sorting. 

I have a form where users enter aphorisms that are then displayed in a list. Currently the most recent aphorisms automatically display at the bottom of the list. Is there an easy way to have the most recent appear at the top of the list instead?

I tried:

And am stumped because the Meteor docs don&#39;t have many examples. 

How can I sort a Meteor collection by time of insertion?

Angular is really useful for building single page applications. It is basically built on the current paradigm where we make requests to different endpoints to help us create better single page applications.

On the other hand, we have Meteor which seems even more capable, especially since they have a feature called DDP which basically allows bi-directional data streaming. It seems like Meteor is a superset of Angular and is the obvious better choice. 

While Angular does offer some neat things like testing and localization, I just don&#39;t see why would I use Angular with Meteor as opposed to just using Meteor. Could someone explain why I would want to Angular with Meteor or even use any MV* front-end framework if I were to use Meteor?

Note, I am completely new to meteor, and to handlebars.  I think I would be much happier using underscore, but the documentation for meteor glances over underscore almost entirely. I am new to Javascript and just started fiddling around with Meteor out of curiosity. What really surprises me, is that it seems that all HTML content gets combined into a single page.

I have a samba share to a Windows SBS server mounted as /mnt/apshared under the apache user. I have created a directory inside this called &#39;webmeteor&#39;. I have created an app called &#39;myapp&#39; inside the &#39;webmeteor&#39; directory, so my directory is like so: /mnt/apshared/webmeteor/myapp.

I am logged in as root. When I try to run the app using the `meteor` command, I am given the following error messages:

    Unexpected mongo exit code 100. Restarting.
    Unexpected mongo exit code 100. Restarting.
    Unexpected mongo exit code 100. Restarting.
    Can&#39;t start mongod

    MongoDB had an unspecified uncaught exception.
    Check to make sure that MongoDB is able to write to its database directory.

My first point of call was this StackOverflow question: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14496190/creating-a-new-meteor-js-file-and-get-error-100-mongodb-not-able-to-write -- however, following these suggestions (sudo&#39;ing the meteor command, and checking for disk space of which I have 70GB free) has not worked. I am quite certain that these issues are permission related.

I have tried to `chown` recursively to root:root (as I am logged in as root), and `chmod` to 777 recursively also, but to no avail.

I am asking you, what should I try next, to allow my Meteor app to start?

Meteor: unexpected mongo exit code 100

Ran into this (slightly annoying problem) I&#39;m trying to look up all records in a collection and not show (or show) a specific field (score). This is just an example and not reflective of my actual code, but the problem is always reproducible. The fields I am excluding are very large and I&#39;m merely trying to generate a menu of available records.

Commands like 

        players.find({},{score:1})
        players.find({},{score:0})

Always return every field, instead of triggering the exclude/include in mongodb. Am I worried about nothing, since the template potentially can control what data gets rendered to html? Still feels like the data is transferred to the client side regardless; and shows up in the console.

**Background**

I&#39;m trying to integrate stripe payments into my site. I need to create a stripe user using my private stripe key. **My attempts and results**

I&#39;ve been using the same client code with different server code. All attempts immediately give undefined on the client&#39;s console.log(...) but give the proper response on the server console.log(...):

Meteor: Proper use of Meteor.wrapAsync on server

I have a helper like

    Template.user_profile.helpers({
      user:function() {
         return Meteor.users.find({&#39;profile.front_name&#39;:Session.get(&#39;slug&#39;)}).fetch()[0];
      }
    });

I want to add a helper to the collection which could access the `user` helper and compare its `_id` with the current user `_id`, to tell whether the user is visiting its own profile.
I&#39;m using something pretty ugly:

    Template.user_profile._tmpl_data.helpers.user()

The final code:

    Template.user_profile.helpers({
      user:function() {
         return Meteor.users.find({&#39;profile.front_name&#39;:Session.get(&#39;userId&#39;)}).fetch()[0];
      },
      isCurrentUser: function() {
        return Template.user_profile._tmpl_data.helpers.user()._id === Meteor.userId();
      }
    });

Is there any better way to access another helper?
