I am currently developing a website under IE10 (on Windows 8), using WebSockets in JavaScript. It runs fine under Firefox 18 and Chrome 25, but on IE10 I get a SecurityError when I establish the connection.

What I am doing seems pretty straghtforward :

    websocket = new WebSocket(&#39;wss://hello.dev.mydomain.net&#39;);

But IE doesn&#39;t like it :

    SCRIPT5022: SecurityError 

The script is on &quot;https://test.dev.mydomain.net&quot; (not the real address obviously).

What bothers me is that if I just double-click the file on my local computer (e.g. file://...) it just works. Even worse: if I use **fiddler** to monitor HTTP traffic... it **also works**. Whereas there seems to be no connection at all without fiddler, as detailed in the API&#39;s specs. (See below.)

Judging by [websocket spec][1], the exception should also appear on Chrome/Firefox... but it does not. So I doubt it has anything related to HTTP/HTTPS. In any case, I am using a wsS socket on a httpS page... Moreover: when I replace the wss address by another valid server found on an online example, it works.

I don&#39;t know if this is relevant, but the IP from test.dev.mydomain.net is 10.14.x.x where hello.dev.mydomain.net is 194.247.x.x. I don&#39;t know if it could trigger some kind of security on IE only...

One more thing: I have a certificate for *.dev.mydomain.net, IE does not seems to have problems with it. The script originally resides on a server called my.name.dev.mydomain.net, but since I am accessing it from another URL (I got a redirect since we first thought it could have been some kind of Same Origin Policy issue), I don&#39;t see how it could matter. At least I hope it does not...


Any idea is welcomed.

WebSocket on IE10 giving a SecurityError

Yesterday I installed Windows 8 and am now trying to understand why I am getting an &quot;Access Denied&quot; message when accessing localstorage. The page is being served on the same PC with the browser (http://localhost). My feeling is that one of the security settings in IE 10 is wrong, but I haven&#39;t figured out which one.

The line of JavaScript code triggering the error is:

    if(window.localStorage.getItem(&#39;phone&#39;) == null)

The code works fine in the latest version of Chrome.

Ok, so here&#39;s another IE10 glitch. The problem is that applying perspective on parent elements breaks the backface-visibility hidden setting. Please see this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/2y4eA

When you hover over the red square it rotates by 180&#176; on the x-axis, and even though the backface-visibility is set to hidden, the backface is shown, at least until the 180&#176; is reached, then it disappears. Remove the perspective property, and you&#39;ll see that it works as expected, the backface isn&#39;t visible at all, but ofcourse the 3d effect is lost.

It&#39;s possible to workaround this problem by applying perspective in the transform property: http://jsfiddle.net/M2pyb But this will cause problems in cojunction with transform-origin-z, when z is set to anything other than 0, the whole thing becomes &quot;scaled&quot;: http://jsfiddle.net/s4ndv so unfortunately that&#39;s not a solution.

The backface-visibilty thingy is probaly a bug? If so, is there any workaound other than the one i&#39;ve mentioned?

Why is backface-visibility hidden not working in IE10 when perspective is applied to parent elements?

In IE10, the scrollbar is not always there... and when it appears it comes on as an overlay... It&#39;s a cool feature but I would like to turn it off for my specific website as it is a full screen application and my logos and menus are lost behind it.

How can I prevent the scrollbar overlaying content in IE10?

It&#39;s a useful feature, to be sure, but is there any way to disable it?   
For instance, if the form is a single text field and already has a &quot;clear&quot; button beside it, it&#39;s superfluous to also have the X. In this situation, it would be better to remove it.

I am creating an event, so use the DOM Event constructor:

This works fine in modern browsers, however in Internet Explorer 9, 10 &amp; 11, it fails with: 

    Object doesn&#39;t support this action

How can I fix Internet Explorer (ideally via a polyfill)? If I can&#39;t, is there a workaround I can use?

IE10 renders in IE7 mode. How to force Standards mode?

So I am using Win7 x64 with VS2010 and have installed the IE10 Win7 Preview and ReSharper 6.1.  

When I attempt to Start Debugging, I receive the following: 

&gt; &quot;Attaching the Script debugger to process &#39;[1111] iexplore.exe&#39; on
&gt; machine &#39;MINE&#39; failed. A debugger is already attached.&quot;

I can click OK and look at attached debug sessions - [1111] is grayed out and there is another instance of iexplore.exe with my solution title.  I can attach manually and it works fine.  

I thought maybe since there were two iexplore.exe pids there would be something wrong, there are not two tabs or windows open and I disabled automatic crash recovery.

I&#39;m trying to make a trivial `postMessage` example work...

 * in IE10
 * between windows/tabs (vs. iframes)
 * across origins

Remove any one of these conditions, and things work fine :-)

But as far as I can tell, between-window `postMessage` only appears to work in IE10 when both windows share an origin.  (Well, in fact -- and weirdly -- the behavior is slightly more permissive than that: two different origins that share a *host* seem to work, too).

# Is this a documented bug? Any workarounds or other advice?

I have a div set with a background image:

    &lt;div&gt;Play Video&lt;/div&gt;

with the following CSS:

    div {
	background-image: url(&#39;icon.png&#39;);
	background-image: url(&#39;icon.svg&#39;), none;
	background-size: 40px 40px;
	background-repeat: no-repeat;
	background-position: 90% 50%;
	padding: 20px;
	width: 150px;
    }


The background size is respected in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. In IE8, the SVG is replaced by the PNG file. However, in IE9 and IE10, the SVG file is drastically sized down. The problem seems to be linked to the width and height of the div. If I add a height of 150px, the SVG is rendered properly. If I make it smaller (i.e. 100px) the graphic starts to shrink.

Has anyone found a way to fix this issue in Explorer? Is there a way to tell IE to use the background-size value independently of the width and height of the div?

Background-size with SVG squished in IE9-10

So, with Mozilla and WebKit I have a half-decent solution replacing the arrow on the `select` box using `appearance: none;` and having a parent element. 

In IE for the most part I disabled this feature. For IE10 I can&#39;t actually disable it since my conditional comments don&#39;t actually work.

Here is my markup:

The class `ie10plus` doesn&#39;t actually make it&#39;s way to the markup.

I also feel like there might be a legitimate way to replace the arrow in IE. I am not opposed to actually fixing the problem. `appearance: none;` however does not work. So what can I do here?

I am testing a highly-customized web application in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8, since it is an up and coming release, and will likely be using my application some day. Take a look at this sample screenshot of some text input controls from the application:
