IE9 Bug - JavaScript only works after opening developer tools once.

Our site offers free pdf downloads to users, and it has a simple &quot;enter password to download&quot; function. However, it doesn&#39;t work at all in Internet Explorer. 

You can see for yourself in this [example][1].

The download pass is &quot;makeuseof&quot;. In any other browser, it works fine. In IE, both buttons do nothing. 

The most curious thing I&#39;ve found is that if you open and close the developer toolbar with F12, it all suddenly starts to work. 

We&#39;ve tried compatibility mode and such, nothing makes a difference.

How do I make this work in Internet Explorer?

Does IE9 support console.log, and is it a real function?

I have just installed IE9 beta and on a specific site I created (HTML5) IE9 jumps to compatibility mode unless I manually tell it not to. I have tried removing several parts of the website but no change. Including removing all CSS includes. On some other website of me it goes just fine.

Also, don&#39;t set it manually because then IE9 remembers the user setting and you can&#39;t turn it back to automatic (or at least I haven&#39;t found how, not even via private browsing and emptying cache)

Both use the same `doctype` and all. Those sites have a lot in common(apart from appearance) using the same basic template(encoding, meta tags, doctype and the same javascript)

It would be great if someone has an answer for me! An HTML5 website that renders in IE7-mode is pretty... lame.


Why does IE9 switch to compatibility mode on my website?

IE9 is apparently able to handle rounded corners by using the CSS3 standard definition of `border-radius`. 

What about support for border radius *and* background gradient? Yes IE9 is to support them both separately, but if you mix the two the gradient bleeds out of the rounded corner. 

I am also seeing strangeness with shadows showing as a solid black line under a box with rounded corners.

IE9 border-radius and background gradient bleeding

It seems it&#39;s a very well known problem but all the solutions I found on Google don&#39;t work on my newly downloaded IE9.

Which is your favorite way in order to enable the `Placeholder` property on the `input` and `textarea` tags?

Optional: I lost a lot of time on that and didn&#39;t look for the `required` property yet. Would you also have some advice for this? Obviously I can check the value in PHP, but to help the user this property is very convenient.

This works fine in modern browsers, however in Internet Explorer 9, 10 &amp; 11, it fails with:

I&#39;m in the process of building a small intranet application and try, with no luck, to use **Adobe font** I purchased lately. As I was informed, in our case it&#39;s not a license violation.

**I converted the .ttf/.otf versions of font to .woff, .eot and .svg, so to target all major browsers.** The @font-face syntax I used is basically the bulletproof one from [Font Spring][1]:

I modified the HTTP headers (added Access-Control-Allow-Origin = &quot;*&quot;) to allow cross-domain references. **In FF and Chrome it works perfectly, but in IE9 I get:**

    CSS3111: @font-face encountered unknown error.  
    myfont-webfont.woff
    CSS3114: @font-face failed OpenType embedding permission check. Permission must be Installable. 
    myfont-webfont.ttf

I noticed that when converting font from .ttf/.otf to .woff I also get an **.afm** file, but I don&#39;t have a clue whether it&#39;s important or not...

Any ideas how to work it out?

I have a framework written in VBScript. Inside some function in this framework parameter of the function is checked for Nothing in If statement and then some actions executed.
Code that uses framework written in Javascript. So I need to pass Nothing to function to perform some actions. In IE8 and earlier versions worked next approach:

IE9 jQuery AJAX with CORS returns &quot;Access is denied&quot;

My website has always run smoothly with IE8, IE7, FF, Chrome and Safari. Now I&#39;m testing it on IE9 and I&#39;m experiencing a strange problem: in some pages, some tabular data renders incorrectly. 

The HTML source is correct and all, and the row giving the problem changes every time I refresh the page (to tell the truth, the problem itself appears only in some refresh, not all).

Using the F12 Tool of IE, the table structure appears correct, there should be no empty TD after the TD containing M08000007448, but still it renders like this.

Moreover, if I use the F12 tool, with &quot;select element by click&quot; tool in the toolbar, and I try to click on the empty space between M08000007448 and 19 , it selects the TR, not a &quot;hidden td&quot;.

I&#39;m having this table rendering problem also in some other table in the application, anyone experiencing something like this? It happens only in IE9 :(

I don&#39;t know if it&#39;s important, but the page is made with ASPNET (webforms) and use Jquery and some other JS plugin.

I tried to save the page (with images) and open it in local with IE9, but the problem never occurs. (Of course I checked all the table structure and it&#39;s ok. Header and all rows have the eact same number of TD&#39;s, with the right number of colspan when necessary).

Internet Explorer 9 not rendering table cells properly

Does anyone know the vendor prefix for gradients within IE9 or are we still supposed to still be using their proprietry filters?

What I&#39;ve got for the other browsers is:

I have an ASP.NET 4.0 IIS7.5 site which I need secured using the X-Frame-Options header.

I also need to enable my site pages to be iframed from my same domain as well as from my facebook app.

Currently I have my site configured with a site headed of:

    Response.Headers.Add(&quot;X-Frame-Options&quot;, &quot;ALLOW-FROM SAMEDOMAIN, www.facebook.com/MyFBSite&quot;)

When I viewed my Facebook page with Chrome or Firefox my sites pages (being iframed with my facebook page) are display ok, but under IE9, I get the error: 

&gt; &quot;this page cannot be displayed…&quot; (because of the `X-Frame_Options` restriction).

How do I set the `X-Frame-Options: ALLOW-FROM` to support more than a single domain?
 
`X-FRAME-OPTION` being a new feature seems fundamentally flawed if only a single domain can be defined.

I need to know if the browser that&#39;s identifying itself via user agent string as being IE7 or IE8 is really those browsers, or whether it&#39;s IE9 in 7 or 8 compatibility mode.

From what I can see in the user agent string, an IE9 in IE7 compatibility mode, provides an identical string to a real IE7. Is there an extra property/element/object that I can test to see if it&#39;s &quot;really&quot; IE9 in disguise?

I assume the document mode won&#39;t help as the page my script is loaded into could either be forcing quirks or forcing a specific setting.

I&#39;m hoping that IE9 will have some property that exists and is testable regardless of whether it&#39;s in 7, 8 or 9 mode.

OK, I see where I was going wrong now. I was using the &quot;Browser Mode&quot; dropdown and switching it to IE8 and IE7 and thinking this was &quot;IE8 compatibility mode&quot; and &quot;IE7 compatibility mode&quot; respectively. This is of course not true. The developer tools&#39; Browser mode really is switching it to &quot;be like&quot; those old browsers, so it&#39;s only right that the original useragent strings be reported.

If I leave the browser mode in IE9 or IE9 compatibility and try the document mode dropdown variants instead, then I do in fact get &quot;Trident/5.0&quot; present in all 8 combinations (two browser modes and 4 document modes). I just need to steer clear of choosing browser mode IE7 and IE8 because they really are (simulated) IE7 and IE8.

So there&#39;s no way a page, a non-developer user, a meta tag, or Microsoft&#39;s compatibility list will be able to put IE9 into this unidentifiable state.

Just using `if(navigator.userAgent.indexOf(&quot;Trident/5&quot;)&gt;-1)` will be sufficient.

Don&#39;t worry, this isn&#39;t for styles, formatting, logic or page content. I use feature detection for those things. I just need to detect IE9 (regardless of what mode it&#39;s in) and make a non-page content decision on that.

JavaScript: Can I detect IE9 if it&#39;s in IE7 or IE8 compatibility mode?

I recently upgraded to IE9-beta. Now, In my .Net (3.5) WinForm application I want to use `WebBrowser` control. 

So my question is, whether the `WebBrowser` control will exhibit all properties and functions of IE9? 

My concern is, I want to render some SVG graphics on it.

Will the IE9 WebBrowser Control Support all of IE9&#39;s features, including SVG?

I have a div set with a background image:

with the following CSS:

The background size is respected in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. In IE8, the SVG is replaced by the PNG file. However, in IE9 and IE10, the SVG file is drastically sized down. The problem seems to be linked to the width and height of the div. If I add a height of 150px, the SVG is rendered properly. If I make it smaller (i.e. 100px) the graphic starts to shrink.

Has anyone found a way to fix this issue in Explorer? Is there a way to tell IE to use the background-size value independently of the width and height of the div?

Background-size with SVG squished in IE9-10

I have an element that needs to be vertical in a design I have done. I have got the css for this to work in all browsers except IE9. I used the filter for IE7 &amp; IE8:

    progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3);

This however seems to render my element transparent in IE9 and the CSS3 &#39;tranform&#39; porperty doesn&#39;t seem to do anything!

Does anyone know anyway of rotating elements in IE9?

It works fine in Firefox/Chrome etc but IE9 doesn&#39;t display the shadow. I can change it to an inset shadow and it appears as it should, but an outer shadow continues to elude me.

Anyone out there able to shed some light on this shadow problem?

This is driving me crazy.

Just testing a site on IE9 and discovered that the &#39;live&#39; version is rendering a web font I am using smaller than on the dev version.

Here is a selection of screen grabs:

I am using the Font Squirrel @font-face kit. As you can see, it is fine on Firefox, Chrome and even IE9 when viewing a local version of the site.

The only difference between the local and live versions is that the font is being loaded from a different domain on the live site (I have set up the cross-domain policy correctly, as illustrated by the fact it works on Firefox and Chrome).

I can&#39;t remember what it looked like in IE8 (Microsoft, yet again, haven&#39;t thought of developers and have installed IE9 over the top of IE8 with no option to run them simultaneously)

**Edit:** I have removed IE9 and discovered that is looks exactly the same on both local and live in IE8. It appears IE8 has a superior rendering engine that is closer to FF/Chrome than IE9. This is quite a depressing discovery.

IE9 blocks download of cross-origin web font

When I open a webpage in IE9 with DOCTYPE as

    &lt;!DOCTYPE html&gt;

It opens Document Mode as IE7 standards.

I need default IE9 standards on opening the page.

How to correct this document mode problem?

**UPDATE:** I highly recommend not investing any time in XDomainRequest, because it is a terribly poor implementation with many limitations. It basically only really works for GET requests to non-ssl servers, so you might as well use jsonp or whatever.

I am using CORS to call a cross domain API, however Internet Explorer is giving issues. CORS should be possible in IE8 and IE9 through the `XDomainRequest` object, however I can&#39;t get things to work..

JQuery [refuses][1] to provide native support for XDomainRequest, however several jQuery plugins are suggested to add this support. This [topic][2] suggest two such plugins: [jQuery.XDomainRequest.js][3] and [xdr.js][4], which has been reported to work. Afaik, the plugins should automatically override behavior of `jQuery.ajax`. I found another plugin [here][5].

I put a little demo pages with the respective plugins [jQuery.XDomainRequest][6] and [xdr][7] and [jquery.ie.cors][8] that perform ajax requests to a CORS enabled server. The pages are working in Chrome and Firefox, however IE8/9 instantly throw a permission denied error (even before making the request). This [MSDN post][9] suggest adding another handler `xhr.onprogress = function() {};` but I tried this and it isn&#39;t working either.

Any clues what I am doing wrong? I have also tested with IE8 now using MS virtual server, but it has exactly the same problem.

Edit: OK so I figured out that part of the problem was that I was using POST over HTTPS. Apparently XDomainRequest does not allow CORS over HTTPS. I can switch to HTTP but I really need POST. 

Edit2: See [this issue on github](https://github.com/MoonScript/jQuery-ajaxTransport-XDomainRequest/issues/1) for the end of this story. It turns out that when using HTTP POST, the xDomainRequest can only encode the request body (arguments) as `text/plain`. This pretty much makes it worthless, because everyone uses `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` or `multipart/form-data`.

CORS with jQuery and XDomainRequest in IE8/9

I&#39;m developing a complex website that heavily leverages jQuery and a number of scripts. On load of the site, none of my scripting is working (though I can confirm that other scripts are functioning fine). I wouldn&#39;t be posting such a lame question here on SE except for one thing:

The instant I hit F12 to turn on developer tools so I can debug my issue, everything instantly works perfectly!

Worse, if I shut down the browser, start it up, turn on Dev Tools first and visit the site, everything works as expected. 

So I can&#39;t even debug the darned problem because Dev Tools fixes it! What could Dev Tools be doing that makes things work? Does it change the UA (I do some jQuery.browser detection)? Does it do something to doctype?

Website with JS doesn&#39;t work in IE9 until the Developer Tools is activated

Is there an easy way to have css3 `text-shadow`&#39;s working in IE9?  At least a single text shadow would be great.  I guess ideally IE8 is supported as well.  I&#39;m hoping there&#39;s a simple jquery plugin or .htc file which just looks at text-shadow css property of an element and implements it for IE9.
