Document Mode is what the browser uses to render the page: IE9, IE8, IE7 or Quirks.
Browser Mode sets how the browser identifies itself to the web server and to JavaScript.

From a testing standpoint, it seems unnecessarily confusing that these are two separate options and you usually want to change both, for example, set the Browser mode to IE8 and the Document Mode to IE8 to get IE9 to pretend to be IE8.

There&#39;s also the Internet Exploer 9 Compatibility View option for Browser Mode.  This seems to be the same as IE7 mode except the user-agent string also says &quot;Trident/5.0&quot; (Trident is the IE layout engine).

I have two anchors positioned absolute on top of an image, the links are clickable in other browsers (Chrome, FF, Safari) but not in IE (tested in 8 &amp; 9 so far)

The strange thing is if I give the links a `background-color` they are clickable, however if the `background-color` is set to `transparent` (*which is what I want*) they are no longer clickable, I&#39;ve also tried setting `zoom:1` but no luck.  I guess the `hasLayout` bit in IE went away with IE 8/9 so guessing `zoom` doesn&#39;t matter now for this kind of issue.

Any ideas to make these links show up in IE 8/9 with a transparent bg?

**Summary**

ASP.Net does not send back a `Set-Cookie` header when using IE 10. Meaning that for example you cannot login to an ASP.Net site using IE10 when using Forms Authentication for example.

**Detail**

We&#39;re currently testing one of our legacy web apps against IE 10 [Preview 2]. 

When attempting to login using Forms Authentication, we don&#39;t get a `Set-Cookie` header in the response if the user-agent is that of IE 10. We&#39;ve tried this with a blank .Net 2 and .Net 4 site.

Because we couldn&#39;t/wouldn&#39;t believe it, we even ran the follow HTTP request manually through `telnet` - after using all usual tools - and got the same response.

    GET http://test.ourdomain.co.uk/ HTTP/1.1
    Accept: */*
    Host: test.ourdomain.co.uk
    User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/6.0)
    Content-Length: 0

The above HTTP request returns no `Set-Cookie` in the response. Yet if we simply change the User-Agent to `Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/6.0)` it works!

Can anyone else replicate this? I can&#39;t find any known issue with IE10 cookies other than an issue that effects non-standard URL patterns.

**Hotfix** 

After [devio][1] posted the original answer, with a workaround, [nullptr][2] has confirm that there is now a [hotfix for this][3].

Pass Nothing from Javascript to VBScript in IE9

IE9 Bug - JavaScript only works after opening developer tools once.

Our site offers free pdf downloads to users, and it has a simple &quot;enter password to download&quot; function. However, it doesn&#39;t work at all in Internet Explorer. 

You can see for yourself in this [example][1].

The download pass is &quot;makeuseof&quot;. In any other browser, it works fine. In IE, both buttons do nothing. 

The most curious thing I&#39;ve found is that if you open and close the developer toolbar with F12, it all suddenly starts to work. 

We&#39;ve tried compatibility mode and such, nothing makes a difference.

How do I make this work in Internet Explorer?
