In a class belonging to a **Library** project I call:

Unfortunately, this only works if I **duplicate** the file info.html into the *Application&#39;s* project asset folder as well.

Is there a way to tell an Android library code: &quot;look for this file in the library&#39;s assets folder, **not** in the application&#39;s assets folder&quot; ?

I want to use Proguard mainly for obfuscation reasons.

My problem is that I have three libraries, Twitter4J and two signpost libraries. These libraries caused errors when I tried to create an signed APK.  To get over this I put the following in the `proguard.config` file...

    -dontwarn org.apache.commons.codec.binary.** 
    -dontwarn org.slf4j.** 
    -dontwarn com.sun.syndication.io.**
    -dontwarn com.sun.syndication.feed.synd.*   

While this got rid of the errors in the console, when i loaded my signed APK onto my mobile phone it instantly crashed.  The DDMS said this was due to a class not found in Twitter4J.   


Getting rid of the `&quot;dontwarns&quot;` above did not help.  Neither did adding `dontshrink  dontoptimise`.


I would  like Proguard to completely ignore the libraries (as they are open source anyway).  Is this possible?

I want to add external library https://github.com/foursquare/foursquare-android-oauth to my Android application (I use Android Studio, the instructions provided by lib author for Eclipse didn&#39;t work for Android Studio).

I&#39;ve tried to do it with maven, so in File-&gt;Project Structure-&gt;Dependencies I&#39;ve added `com.foursquare:foursquare-android-nativeoauth-lib:1.0.0` but Gradle Sync fails:

    Error:Failed to find: com.foursquare:foursquare-android-nativeoauth-lib:1.0.0

When I try to build my app (without fixing above error becaus I don&#39;t know how) I get:

    Error:A problem occurred configuring project &#39;:app&#39;.
    &gt; Could not resolve all dependencies for configuration &#39;:app:_debugCompile&#39;.
    &gt; Could not resolve com.foursquare:foursquare-android-nativeoauth-lib:1.0.0.

Any other way to import this lib? I can simply copy-paste source code into my source or create JAR out of it?

Adding external library in Android studio

I have a sample project, with the following setup:

    /root
      + Pure Java Lib
      + Android Test Lib
      + Android Test Project

Where the &#39;*Test Project*&#39; is dependent on the &#39;*Test Lib*&#39;, and the last depends on the &#39;*Pure Java Lib*&#39;
**Compiling the project and launching this setup works just fine.**

I&#39;m now thinking about importing my previous Eclipse workspace and work with Android studio, the problem is the project setup is different, and I would like to keep it this way.

for example if to use the previous example:

    /root
      + Android Test Lib
      + Android Test Project
    
    /Some Other folder (another repository for example)
      + Pure Java Lib

I&#39;ve tried many configurations, but I didn&#39;t find a way to reference a project outside the scope of the parent folder (&#39;*root*&#39; in the example case).

In many platforms/modules you can use the &#39;..&#39; to move up in the folders but this didn&#39;t work for me, perhaps I&#39;ve used it wrong.

Does anyone know how this can be achieved with Gradle?

        + Module 1 - Pure Java

I saw this now and I must update... after almost 6 years, today I am wiser, and I can definitely say the problem was me misunderstanding the concept of &quot;Source of truth&quot;.

While having one ref to a library is a nice to have concept.. and may seem like the a &quot;Source of truth&quot;, the REAL &quot;Source of truth&quot; would be the version of the code each project is using of that library, cause the library by itself has versions.. many versions an the &quot;Source of truth&quot; is relative to the project which is using the library.

The correct way would be to use what most developers do not like, and that is git submodules, and yes duplicate the sources in each project cause most chances each project uses a different version of the code.

You would need however to aim for all of your projects to use the latest and greatest version of all your libraries.. which is a challenge by itself

The reason this is the right way to develop a project with library sources is that this scales... you can have hundreds of project each with its own library configuration. 




Android studio add external project to build.gradle

This is a two-part question about adding a third-party library (JAR) to an Android project in Eclipse.

The first part of the question is, when I try to add a third-party JAR (library) to my Android project I first get the problem of

because I&#39;m trying to use a class from that JAR (and need the prefix somehow defined). What&#39;s going on?

Adding a library/JAR to an Eclipse Android project

I have built my android library package (aar) and the result of build is created in 
&quot;..\app\build\outputs\aar&quot; folder. The file within this folder is called &quot;app-debug.aar&quot; so I guess it has been built in debug mode so I would like to know how to genereate the release built, that is, &quot;app-release.aar&quot;. I have a library (jar) on build path of my project. The project accesses the MainActivity in the jar, using the following intent:

**EDIT**

I updated the manifest.xml with all other activities &amp; somehow, that resolved the problem. The intent activity starts up without any errors. *BUT*, this is only on AVD. On actual device, it is still throwing same error. I have uninstalled the app from device completely and reinstalled, yet the same error.

I wanna use the google&#39;s volley library 

I am using Android Studio and I know how to add .jar libraries.

But I could not create a .jar library with the volley files:

I have no idea how to fix this, and would appreciate any help. I&#39;ve scanned many similar questions on SO without seeing this particular behavior.

More info:

 - I&#39;ve checked inside the generated APK and the class has an entry in
   the classes.dex file 
 - I&#39;ve tried cleaning/building the project in
   eclipse 
 - I&#39;ve tried using a totally new device image that doesn&#39;t have
   a copy of the APK on it already 
 - I&#39;ve changed the library project into
   a regular java, then changed back into an android project, no
   difference
 - Adding the abstract SimonSaysActivity to the manifest makes no difference.
 - I&#39;ve tried making every dependency an android library project, and syncing the android version that they require, it did not help

Found the solution (see below). To everyone that posted an answer / comment: You all rock, thanks for helping me work through the problems!

Android Activity ClassNotFoundException - tried everything

I have a directory/project setup like this:

	C:\
		_dev\
			Projects\
				Logger
				MyProject

_Logger_ is an Android library project using Gradle. _MyProject_ is a standard Android project project that needs to make use of the _Logger_ library.

I am using Android Studio and have tried adding _Logger_ to the external libraries. Whilst this works during development, I get messages about the class not being found when building.

I&#39;m completely new to Gradle, but have tried the following in my build.gradle within _MyProject_:

Require Gradle project from another directory

I&#39;m trying to figure out why the heck my Android studio isn&#39;t recognizing the AppCompat v7 library correctly. The import statement below shows up as gray and says there&#39;s no package for support.v7.app. Below is my activity file:

My build.grade:

So I&#39;m really confused as to why this is still giving me issues. Things I&#39;ve tried already:

- Cleaning/rebuilding the project
- Invalidating caches and restarting
- Checking a billion times to make sure I have the support library installed (I absolutely do have the latest support repository and libraries installed)

Anybody know of any fixes? It&#39;s cost me a lot of time and it&#39;s really frustrating.

Cannot resolve symbol AppCompatActivity - Support v7 libraries aren&#39;t recognized?

BuildConfig.DEBUG is not working (= logically set to false) when I run my app in debug mode.
I use Gradle to build. I have a library project where I do this check. BuildConfig.java looks like this in the build debug folder:

        public static final boolean DEBUG = Boolean.parseBoolean(&quot;true&quot;);

and in the release folder:

both in the library project and in the application project.

I tried to get around this by checking a variable which is set a class of my project. This class inherits from the library and starts on startup.

This leads to another problem: is that I use my DEBUG variable in a DataBaseProvider which runs before the application class, and it will not run properly due to this bug.

Can somebody give me a hint on how to use the `maven-publish` Gradle plugin to publish a `com.android.library` project/module with AAR and source jar? I am able to do this with the old `maven` plugin - but I would like to use the new `maven-publish` plugin.

Is there any way to make an Android application to download and use a Java library at runtime? 

Here is an example:

Imagine that the application needs to make some calculations depending on the input values. The application asks for these input values and then checks if the required `Classe`s or `Method`s are available. 

If not, it connects to a server, downloads the needed library, and loads it at runtime to calls the required methods using reflection techniques. The implementation could change depending on various criteria such as the user who is downloading the library.

I have to create a library that I am going to export to the client in a jar file. Is there any way to create a jar with the resources in it?

The Google adMob have such a jar, which includes resource file such as R$layout.class in it.

How to create jar for Android Library Project

I managed to restructure my application pretty nicely so that, except for a few methods in a derived Activity class, everything is in a Library Project.

It works beautifully, except that Eclipse&#39;s Console (**not** LogCat!) issues the following error message:

    [2011-06-13 19:54:08 - MyLibrary] Could not find MyLibrary.apk!

I cleaned both projects (library *and* application), restarted Eclipse, re-built the projects, but this weird error message persists.

What does this error message mean? (especially in light that everything seems to be running OK)

How do I get rid of it?

**UPDATE**: I tried removing the project then re-importing it per the suggestion below. It didn&#39;t help. I then found [this thread][1] that helped me realize that I had `&lt;uses-library&gt;` in the application&#39;s AndroidManifest.xml referring to MyLibrary. I deleted it, cleaned the project and rebuilt. The problem persists.

I am now suspecting this is &quot;real problem&quot;, e.g. misconfiguration of some paths or something else on my part. What could it be?

Could not find Library.apk!

I would like to get the context of application which has reference/hosted my library at run-time inside one class of my library project. Is it possible? If yes, how?

I don&#39;t want my user to pass context in parameter to my library project because it is possible that my library project will be called through JNI and I have no idea how I can get context in JNI and pass it to Java layer.

I have a project with several modules in it one of which is a Android Library named (poorly) as `sdk`. When I build the project it outputs an AAR named `sdk.aar`.

I haven&#39;t been able to find anything in the Android or Gradle documentation that allows me to change the name of the AAR output. I would like it to have a basename + version number like the Jar tasks do, but I can&#39;t work out how to do the same for the AAR because all the config for it seems to be hidden in the android.library plugin.

Renaming the module isn&#39;t an option at this stage and that still wouldn&#39;t add the version number to the final AAR.

How can I change the name of the AAR generated by `com.android.library` in Gradle?

I&#39;m getting really confused and frustrated because I just can&#39;t understand how to import my android library project as dependency for my application project.

I tried to find online and most of the answers suggested to go to project structure of my application and click on &#39;+&#39; and then click on &#39;import module&#39;

But Android Studio 0.3.4 - 0.5.2 doesn&#39;t show any options and when I click on &#39;+&#39;, it just shows the windows for a new module.

Am I doing something wrong or what ?
