I was working on fragments and came across two things `Activity` and `FragmentActivity` which are used several times. I want to know that is there any difference between these two, because when I changed `Activity` with `FragmentActivity`, it had no effect on the app.

I have a FragmentActivity and I want to use a map fragment within it.  I&#39;m having a problem getting the support fragment manager to access it.

How can I access getSupportFragmentManager() in a fragment?

`FirstActivity.Java` has a `FragmentA.Java` which calls `startActivityForResult()`.
`SecondActivity.Java` call `finish()` but `onActivityResult` never get called which is 
written in `FragmentA.Java`.

`FragmentA.Java` code:

I have tried debugging the code, but `onAcitvityResult()` never get called.

My question is apart from the obvious inheritance differences, what are the main differences between [`Fragment`][1] and [`FragmentActivity`][2]? To what scenarios are each class best suited? I&#39;m trying to get an understanding of why both of these classes exist...

What is the difference between Fragment and FragmentActivity?

I am not able to reuse fragment in FragmentPagerAdapter.. Using destroyItem() method, It is deleting the fragment but still does not called getItem() again..There are just 2-3 Images so I am using FragmentPagerAdapter Instead of FragmentStatePagerAdapter..

FragmentPagerAdapter getItem is not called

I have 2 fragments with on both fragments a button. When I press the button I&#39;d like to start a new Activity. But I can&#39;t get it to work.

The error I&#39;m getting: **ERROR here: Type mismatch: cannot convert from mFragmentFavorite to Fragment**

What am I doing wrong?

If FavoriteActivity extends fragments, the error is gone but then I get an error at `findViewById(R.id.mainFavorite);` and the error is

Start an activity from a fragment

In my Main `FragmentActivity`, I setup my custom `ActionBar` title like this:

This works perfect.  However, once I open other `Fragments`, I want the title to change.  I am not sure how to access the Main `Activity` to do this?  In the past, I did this:

	((MainFragmentActivity) getActivity()).getSupportActionBar().setTitle(
				catTitle);

Can someone advise on the proper method?

Setting Custom ActionBar Title from Fragment

I just upgraded to Android Studio 0.2.8 and I am getting an error that says &quot;Default Activity not found&quot; when I try to edit the run configurations.

When I launch Android Studio I get this error &quot;Access is allowed from event dispatch thread only&quot;

The activity I am using is a fragment activity.

So far I&#39;ve tried rebuilding and invalidate caches/restart. Both were of no use.

Please let me know what I can do to fix the problem.

Default Activity not found in Android Studio

I am new in Android. I want to build an app with tab format. I found many documentation where `Activity` has been used. Also in many cases have used `FragmentActivity`. I am not sure which will be better to start. Please suggest me should I use `Activity` or `FragmentActivity` to start development in tab format?

Android - Activity vs FragmentActivity?

In my trying `AsyncTask` I get email address from my server. In `onPostExecute()` I have to check is email address `empty` or `null`. I used following code to check it:

I have a FragmentActivity that hosts a DialogFragment.

The DialogFragment perform network requests and handles Facebook authentication, so I need to retain it during rotation.

I&#39;ve read all the other questions relating to this issue, but none of them have actually solved the problem. 

I&#39;m using putFragment and getFragment to save the Fragment instance and get it again during activity re-creation.

However, I&#39;m always getting a null pointer exception on the call to getFragment in onRestoreInstanceState. I would also like to keep the dialog from being dismissed during rotation, but so far I can&#39;t even retain the instance of it. 

Any ideas what&#39;s going wrong?

How to properly retain a DialogFragment through rotation?

I have a `LoginActivity` (User Logs in). It is basically its own `Activity` that is themed like a dialog (to appear as if a dialog). It appears over a `SherlockFragmentActivity`. What I want is:  If there is a successful login, there should be two `FragmentTransaction`&#39;s to update the view. Here is the code:

In `LoginActivity`, if successful login,

	setResult(1, new Intent());
 
In `SherlockFragmentActivity`:

I have a Sherlock Fragment Activity in which there are 3 Fragments.

Fragment A, Fragment B, Fragment C are three fragments. I want to show a done option menu in Fragment B only.


And the activity is started with Fragment A. When Fragment B is selected done button is added.

    item.setVisible(false);

But this is not hiding at all, also it is giving NullPointerException when Activity if first started with Fragment A.


Please let me know what is the problem.



Hide/Show Action Bar Option Menu Item for different fragments

I am changing my android mobile app to support both tablets and mobile phone. For this I am changing my activity class into fragment. In my activity class I have an instance of my application class created as below:
    
    appCtx = (UnityMobileApp) getApplication();
    
Where `UnityMobileApp` is my Application class.

Now I want to create the same instance in my fragment class. Can you guys please help me solve this?

How to get application object into fragment class

All of my fragments are controlled through ``ActionBarActivity`` (mainActivity), inside mainActivity a ``DrawerLayout`` is implemented and all the child fragments are pushed through drawerLayout&#39;s list item click. The problem that I&#39;m facing is after pushing a fragment through drawerLayout I want to change the drawer icon into back icon of ``ToolBar`` so that user can navigate to previous fragment and to handle the callback of ``android.R.id.home`` either inside the same fragment or inside the mainActivity.

From the above code I am not able to get the callback of ``android.R.id.home`` and setting home button is not working everytime ``actionBar.setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);`` ``actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(true);``

Manage toolbar&#39;s navigation and back button from fragment in android

I&#39;m using FragmentActivity and Fragments.

When the application starts:

    FragmentActivity onCreate() &lt;------
    FragmentActivity onStart()
    FragmentActivity onResume()
    Fragment onAttach()
    Fragment onCreate() &lt;------
    Fragment onCreateView()
    Fragment onActivityCreated()
    Fragment onStart()
    Fragment onResume()

Everything is OK, FragmentActivity onCreate() is called before Fragment onCreate().
And when I rotate:

    Fragment onPause()
    FragmentActivity onPause()
    Fragment onStop()
    FragmentActivity onStop()
    Fragment onDestroyView()
    Fragment onDestroy()
    Fragment onDetach()
    FragmentActivity onDestroy()
    ---
    Fragment onAttach()
    Fragment onCreate() &lt;----------
    FragmentActivity onCreate() &lt;---------
    Fragment onCreateView()
    Fragment onActivityCreated()
    Fragment onStart()
    FragmentActivity onStart()
    FragmentActivity onResume()
    Fragment onResume()

Fragment onCreate() is called before FragmentActivity onCreate(). Why is it inconsistent?

In FragmentActivity onCreate() I generate some data, which Fragment onCreate() gets. Because of that strange behaviour I had to move my code from Fragment onCreate() to Fragment onCreateView() to be sure that my data had been generated before.

I&#39;m using FragmentStatePagerAdapter to hold Fragments, maybe that is the reason?
