I have the compatibility library referenced through ABS and the proper imports in place. I reinstalled ABS library w/ the compatibility library, cleaned the project, restarted Eclipse, but nothing has worked.

Essentially, I&#39;m trying to get the fragment to show a date picker through a dialog fragment. Once the date is picked, it must be returned to the fragment so it can be used to calculate information based on that date.

How can I listen to a FINAL dismissal of a `BottomSheetDialogFragment`? I want to save user changes on the final dismissal only...

Google recommends that we use `DialogFragment` instead of a simple `Dialog` by using `Fragments API`, but it is absurd to use an isolated `DialogFragment` for a simple Yes-No confirmation message box. What is the best practice in this case?

Let&#39;s say I specify the layout of my `DialogFragment` in an xml layout file named `my_dialog_fragment.xml` and I specify the `layout_width` and `layout_height` values of its root view to a fixed value (e.g. `100dp`). I then inflate this layout in my `DialogFragment`&#39;s `onCreateView(...)` method as follows:

    View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.my_dialog_fragment, container, false);

Sadly, I find that when my `DialogFragment` appears, it does not respect the `layout_width` and `layout_height` values specified in its xml layout file and instead shrinks or expands depending on its content. Anyone know whether or how I can get my `DialogFragment` to respect the `layout_width` and `layout_height` values specified in its xml layout file? At the moment I&#39;m having to specify the width and height of the `Dialog` again in my `DialogFragment`&#39;s `onResume()` method as follows:

    getDialog().getWindow().setLayout(width, height);

The problem with this is that I have to remember to make any future changes to the width and height in two places.

I now managed to get it into full screen, with the following code in the fragment

Unfortunately, this is not quite want I want. I definitely need a small &quot;padding&quot; around the dialog to show the background.

Any ideas how to accomplish that?

Full Screen DialogFragment in Android

I have a dialog with `EditText` for input. When I click the &quot;yes&quot; button on dialog, it will validate the input and then close the dialog. However, if the input is wrong, I want to remain in the same dialog. Every time no matter what the input is, the dialog should be automatically closed when I click on the &quot;no&quot; button. How can I disable this? By the way, I have used PositiveButton and NegativeButton for the button on dialog.

Question: How does one create a callback from a DialogFragment to another Fragment.  In my case, the Activity involved should be completely unaware of the DialogFragment.

Consider I have

    public class MyFragment extends Fragment implements OnClickListener

Then at some point I *could* do

    DialogFragment dialogFrag = MyDialogFragment.newInstance(this);
    dialogFrag.show(getFragmentManager, null);

Where MyDialogFragment looks like 

    protected OnClickListener listener;
    public static DialogFragment newInstance(OnClickListener listener) {
        DialogFragment fragment = new DialogFragment();
        fragment.listener = listener;
        return fragment;
    }

But there is no guarantee that the listener will be around if the DialogFragment pauses and resumes through its lifecycle.  The only guarantees in a Fragment are those passed in through a Bundle via setArguments and getArguments.


There is a way to reference the activity if it should be the listener:

        OnClickListener listener = (OnClickListener) getActivity();
        ....
        return new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity())

But I don&#39;t want the Activity to listen for events, I need a Fragment.  Really, it could be any Java object that implements OnClickListener.


Consider the concrete example of a Fragment that presents an AlertDialog via DialogFragment.  It has Yes/No buttons.  How can I send these button presses back to the Fragment that created it?

Callback to a Fragment from a DialogFragment

This should be a simple task, but for some reason I can find a way to set the title of a [DialogFragment][1]. (I am setting the dialog contents using `onCreateView` overload).

The default style leaves a place for the title, but I can&#39;t find any method on the `DialogFragment` class to set it.

The title is somehow magically set when the `onCreateDialog` method is used to set the contents, so I wonder if this is by design, or there is a special trick to set it when using the `onCreateView` overload.

In my code, all I do is call `getDialog().dismiss()` to dismiss it. But I am not doing anything else or even using `onStop()`. So I am asking exactly how to correctly dismiss a `DialogFragment` to avoid any memory leaks, etc..

    Fragment#setArguments(Bundle)

I have some fragments that need to show a regular dialog. On these dialogs the user can choose a yes/no answer, and then the fragment should behave accordingly.

Now, the `Fragment` class doesn&#39;t have an `onCreateDialog()` method to override, so I guess I have to implement the dialogs outside, in the containing `Activity`. It&#39;s ok, but then the `Activity` needs to report back the chosen answer somehow to the fragment. I could of course use a callback pattern here, so the fragment registers itself at the `Activity` with a listener class, and the Activity would report back the answer thru that, or something like that.

But this seems to be quite a big mess for a simple task as displaying a &quot;simple&quot; yes-no dialog in a fragment. Also, this way my `Fragment` would be less self-contained.

Is there some cleaner way to do this?

The answer to this question doesn&#39;t really explain in detail how one should use DialogFragments to display dialogs from Fragments. So AFAIK, the way to go is:

1. Display a Fragment.
2. When needed, instantiate a DialogFragment.
3. Set the original Fragment as the target of this DialogFragment, with `.setTargetFragment()`.
4. Show the DialogFragment with .show() from the original Fragment.
5. When the user chooses some option on this DialogFragment, notify the original Fragment about this selection (e.g. the user clicked &#39;yes&#39;), you can get the reference of the original Fragment with .getTarget().
6. Dismiss the DialogFragment.

Show dialog from fragment?

I am working in an android application and am using a DialogFragment to show a dialog and I want to make that DialogFragment not cancelable. I have made the dialog cancelable property to false, but still its not affecting.

I am showing `snackbar` in a `DialogFragment` within the positive touch of the alert dialog. Here is my code snippet:

I need to create a dialog over a fragment (that takes up the whole screen). The dialog needs to be a floating dialog that will be positioned over the fragment with the fragment darkened out outside of the fragment..

For the custom Dialog, i have a linearLayout that has curved edges, no matter what i do, the dialog has a black bordering on all sides (very small). I&#39;ve tried everything to make it transparent and go away (so that all of the dialog is just the linear layout - curved box)

How to make DialogFragment width to Fill_Parent

I have the following code in my onActivityResult for a fragment of mine:

    onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data){
       //other code
       ProgressFragment progFragment = new ProgressFragment();  
       progFragment.show(getActivity().getSupportFragmentManager(), PROG_DIALOG_TAG);
       // other code
    }

However, I&#39;m getting the following error:

    Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Can not perform this action after onSaveInstanceState   


Anybody know what&#39;s going on, or how I can fix this? I should note I&#39;m using the Android Support Package.

Show DialogFragment from onActivityResult

I started using DialogFragment, because they are working nicely through orientation changes, and stuff. But there is nasty problem I encountered.

I have `AsyncTask` that shows progress DialogFragment and dismisses it `onPostExecute`. Everything works fine, except when `onPostExecute` happens while application is in background (after pressing Home button, for example). Then I got this error on DialogFragment dismissing - &quot;`Can not perform this action after onSaveInstanceState`&quot;. Doh. Regular dialogs works just fine. But not FragmentDialog.

So I wonder, what is the proper way of dismissing DialogFragment while application is in background? I haven&#39;t really worked with Fragments a lot, so I think that I&#39;m just missing something.

I have a FragmentActivity that hosts a DialogFragment.

The DialogFragment perform network requests and handles Facebook authentication, so I need to retain it during rotation.

I&#39;ve read all the other questions relating to this issue, but none of them have actually solved the problem. 

I&#39;m using putFragment and getFragment to save the Fragment instance and get it again during activity re-creation.

However, I&#39;m always getting a null pointer exception on the call to getFragment in onRestoreInstanceState. I would also like to keep the dialog from being dismissed during rotation, but so far I can&#39;t even retain the instance of it. 

Any ideas what&#39;s going wrong?

How to properly retain a DialogFragment through rotation?

I want to create a custom dialog box like below

I have tried the following things.

 1. I created a subclass of **AlertDialog.Builder** and used a custom Title and Custom Content View and used that but the result was not as expected.

 2. Another attempt was to subclass **DialogFragment** and customize the dialog inside onCreateDialog that but result was not as expected.

 3. Then I tried using a plain **Dialog** class. The result was not as expected.

In all three cases, the problem is when I overlook the title view the size of the dialog is not as expected and when I use Title view the result is there is a thick border around the content view (which really looks bad). Now I have two questions in my mind...

1. How can I achieve that? As I have already tried so many things, a direct answer will be more appreciated.

2. What is the best way to show an error or alert dialog in an android app?

[Android Developer Documentation][2] recommends that we should use either DialogFragments or Dialogs for showing Error / Alert Messages to the user. However at one point they say ...

How to create a Custom Dialog box in android?

I launch my dialog fragment using

    FragmentTransaction ft = 
    getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
    MyDialogFragment dialog = new MyDialogFragment()

then to get a handle on it I do 

    Fragment prev = getFragmentManager().findFragmentByTag(&quot;dialog&quot;);

but once I get `prev`, how do I check if it is showing?

My problem is that my looping code keeps launching the dialog again and again. But if the dialog is already showing, I don&#39;t want it to launch again.

I have a `DialogFragment` to show a `View` like a Popup screen.
The Window appears always in the middle of the screen.
Is there a way to set the position of the `DialogFragment` window?

Fragment inner class should be static

I&#39;m creating a DialogFragment to show some help messages regarding my app. Everything works fine besides one thing: There is a black stripe at the top of the window that shows the DialogFragment, that I presume is reserved for the title, something I don&#39;t want to use.

This is specially painful since my custom DialogFragment uses a white background, so the change is way too notorious to be left aside.

How to create a DialogFragment without title?

I have started to work on Android M runtime permission. Here I am facing the issue that if `requestPermissions` is called from `Dialog Fragment` class then `onRequestPermissionsResult` not getting called in the same `Dialog fragment` class. But if `requestPermissions` is called from `Activity` class or `Fragment` class then `onRequestPermissionsResult` method get called in the same class. 

Here is my sample code:

But As **@CommonWare** asked me to use activity to show the DialogFragment. I have made following changes and it works.

onRequestPermissionsResult not being called in dialog fragment

I have been having this problem in an application I am building. Please ignore all of the design shortcomings and lack of best practice approaches, this is purely to show an example of what I cannot solve.

I have `DialogFragment` which returns a basic `AlertDialog` with a custom `View` set using `AlertDialog.Builder.setView()`. If this `View` has a specific size requirement, how do I get the `Dialog` to correctly resize itself to display all of the content in the custom `View`?

A `Button` is created, which opens the `DialogFragment` on a click. The custom `View` (`myView`) is required to have a width of 800 and height of 300 which is correctly set in an override of `onMeasure()`. This `View`, draws its measured bounds in magenta for debugging purposes.

The 800 width is wider than the default `Dialog` size on my device, but is clipped rather than stretching correctly.

 2. Using the `setLayout(w, h)` method through `myDialog.getDialog().getWindow().setLayout()`

I have tried them everywhere I can think of (overriding `onStart()`, in a `onShowListener`, after the `Dialog` is created and shown, etc) and can generally get both methods to work correctly if the `LayoutParams` are supplied a **specific value**. But whenever `WRAP_CONTENT` is supplied, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

AlertDialog with custom view: Resize to wrap the view&#39;s content

I am creating a custom fragment dialog with round corners and with layout that would not fill the screen width (I would prefer if it just wrapped its content).

this is my `rounded_dialog.xml` in drawable folder, which is called by my Custom `ThemeWithCorners` as a background for the dialog. I also tried to set it as background to the linear layout which creates its content but nothing works.

and this is how i call the dialog:

		ft.show(dialog);
		ft.commit();

In onCreate method of the dialog I set the style and theme:

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    	super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    	setStyle(DialogFragment.STYLE_NO_TITLE, R.style.ThemeWithCorners);		
    }

This is the onCreateView method:

    @Override
	public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
			Bundle savedInstanceState) {
	getDialog().setCanceledOnTouchOutside(true);
	v = (MyCalendar)inflater.inflate(R.layout.calendar_dialog, container, true)
        return v;
	}

I also tried to add this to onCreateDialog method as other answers on SO suggested but did not work either:

    @Override
	public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState)
	{
		Dialog d =  super.onCreateDialog(savedInstanceState);
		LayoutParams lp=d.getWindow().getAttributes();
		d.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(0));
		lp.width=-2;lp.height=-2;lp.gravity=Gravity.CENTER;
        lp.dimAmount=0;            
        lp.flags=LayoutParams.FLAG_LAYOUT_NO_LIMITS | LayoutParams.FLAG_NOT_TOUCH_MODAL;

		return d;
	}

So to sum it up, I want round corners, not 100% width of the screen, it preferably should wrap its content. Please, please, I need some help, I am really desperate about this, I&#180;v ebeen trying it for days!
