[ianhanniballake is right][1]. You can get all the functionality of `Activity` from `FragmentActivity`. In fact, [`FragmentActivity`][2] has more functionality. 

Using `FragmentActivity` you can easily build `tab and swap` format. For each tab you can use different `Fragment` (`Fragments` are reusable). So for any `FragmentActivity` you can reuse the same `Fragment`. 

Still you can use `Activity` for single pages like list down something and edit element of the list in next page. 

Also remember to use `Activity` if you are using `android.app.Fragment`; use `FragmentActivity` if you are using `android.support.v4.app.Fragment`. Never attach a `android.support.v4.app.Fragment` to an `android.app.Activity`, as this will cause an exception to be thrown.

I&#39;m new to Android programming and I&#39;m having problems while passing an ArrayList of a Parcelable to a fragment.
This is the Activity that is launched(working well!) where **feedlist** is an ArrayList of a parcelable **Music**.

When I run this code the problem I get is a **java.lang.NullPointerException in the Fragment onCreateView() method**.
I would appreciate a lot if someone pointed me in the right direction to see where I am failing.


**EDIT**: Problem solved: I just needed to add this line to the fragment Activity onCreate() method(othwewise the getArguments() would return null):

    getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
        .add(android.R.id.content, frag).commit();

And add this to the fragment code:

Android: Pass data(extras) to a fragment

I came across JavaScript &#39;hoisting&#39; and I didn&#39;t figure out how this snippet of code really functions:

I know that function declaration like ( `function a() {}` ) is going to be hoisted to the top of the function `b` scope but it should not override the value of `a` (because function declarations override variable declarations but not variable initialization) so I expected that the value of the alert would be 10 instead of 1!!

I believe this is a limitation of the recent Google Maps API v2. They have recently added the ability to draw a Circle on the ground - but if you want to position the camera such that it shows the entire Circle, there exists no way to do so.

One can call CameraUpdateFactory#newLatLngBounds(bounds, padding) where &quot;bounds&quot; is a LatLngBounds and &quot;padding&quot; is a distance in pixels. The issue is that there is no way to create a LatLng and a radius into a LatLngBounds.

The constructor for LatLngBounds only takes 2 LatLng instances and generates a rectangle where these are the NW and SE corners.

If I have an int in Java that I&#39;m using as an Android color (for drawing on a Canvas), how do I manipulate just the alpha component of that int? For example, how can I use an operation to do this:

I have a main activity, that when I click on a button, starts a new activity, i used the following code to do so:

    Intent intent = new Intent(this, SettingsActivity.class);
    startActivity(intent);

The above code was run from the main activity.

Now in my new activity which is called by the main activity, I have a back button.
When I click on this back button I want my new activity to close and it must go back to the original main activity.

I have tried calling `super.finish()` and just `finish()`  (from the new activity) but this then closes my entire application (including my main activity).

How can I just close the activity that is currently in focus, and then return to the main activity?

The fact that my phone&#39;s back button also closes my entire app, leads me to think that i have started up the second activity incorrectly?

OK I have been looking,

I created a Settings Activity that uses the same manifest code and the same code to Start the activity.

For the settings Activity when I push the back button, it returns to the Main activity.

With the activity mentioned above in the main question it simply exits my entire app.

So the problem doesn&#39;t seem to be with the code to finish the activity but the activity itself.



How to close activity and go back to previous activity in android

Basically, this is what I&#39;m doing

1) Set AlarmManager to execute BroadcastReceiver (BCR)

2) Start MyActivity from BCR

For some reason, I notice that right when MyActivity is opened, it&#39;s flow goes like:

I&#39;m not sure why it does an onPause right away. I notice this only happens when the screened is being turned on by the flags. Does anyone know why this happens? Is there any way this behavior can be prevented?

Why is my onResume being called twice?

I have a `LoginActivity` (User Logs in). It is basically its own `Activity` that is themed like a dialog (to appear as if a dialog). It appears over a `SherlockFragmentActivity`. What I want is:  If there is a successful login, there should be two `FragmentTransaction`&#39;s to update the view. Here is the code:

runOnUiThread in fragment

In my Main `FragmentActivity`, I setup my custom `ActionBar` title like this:

`FirstActivity.Java` has a `FragmentA.Java` which calls `startActivityForResult()`.
`SecondActivity.Java` call `finish()` but `onActivityResult` never get called which is 
written in `FragmentA.Java`.

`FragmentA.Java` code:

      @Override
      public void onActivityCreated(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
		super.onActivityCreated(savedInstanceState);
        // some code
        Intent i = new Intent(getActivity(), SecondActivity.class);
	    i.putExtra(&quot;helloString&quot;, helloString);
	    getActivity().startActivityForResult(i, 1);
      }
     
      @Override
      public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
		super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
		getActivity();
		if(requestCode == 1 &amp;&amp; resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
		   //some code
	    }
      }

`SecondActivity.Java` code:

      @Override
      protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
           super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
           //some code
           Intent returnIntent = new Intent();
           returnIntent.putExtra(&quot;result&quot;, result);						     

           setResult(Activity.RESULT_OK,returnIntent);     
           finish();
      }


I have tried debugging the code, but `onAcitvityResult()` never get called.

startActivityForResult() from a Fragment and finishing child Activity, doesn&#39;t call onActivityResult() in Fragment

I just upgraded to Android Studio 0.2.8 and I am getting an error that says &quot;Default Activity not found&quot; when I try to edit the run configurations.

When I launch Android Studio I get this error &quot;Access is allowed from event dispatch thread only&quot;

The activity I am using is a fragment activity.

So far I&#39;ve tried rebuilding and invalidate caches/restart. Both were of no use.

Please let me know what I can do to fix the problem.
