I&#39;m trying to smoothly scroll to last element of a list after adding an element to the arrayadapter associated with the listview.
The problem is that it just scrolls to a random position

    arrayadapter.add(item);
    //DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY:
    listview.smoothScrollToPosition(arrayadapter.getCount()-1);

    //WORKS JUST FINE:
    listview.setSelection(arrayadapter.getCount()-1);

When you are developing an Android program; and you want to have a **ArrayAdapter** you can Simply have a Class (most of times with **ViewHolder** suffix) or directly inflate your **convertView** and find your view by id.  
**So What is the benefit of using ViewHolder?**  
The example of both here :

I&#39;m trying to use in my `Android Application` the `notifyDataSetChanged()` method for an `ArrayAdapter` but it doesn&#39;t work for me. 

I found [as answer here][1], that `notifyDataSetChanged()` should run in the main thread, but there was no example for that.

Could anybody send an example or at least a link?!

notifyDataSetChanged example

I have a `ListView` which displays news items. They contain an image, a title and some text. The image is loaded in a separate thread (with a queue and all) and when the image is downloaded, I now call `notifyDataSetChanged()` on the list adapter to update the image. This works, but `getView()` is getting called too frequently, since `notifyDataSetChanged()` calls `getView()` for all visible items. I want to update just the single item in the list. How would I do this?

Problems I have with my current approach are:

1. Scrolling is slow
1. I have a fade-in animation on the image which happens every time a single new image in the list is loaded.

I have ListView that has some kind of events on it. Events are sorted by day, and I would like to have header with date on it for every day, and then events listen below.

what I do at the moment is that I am adding header just as regular list object, but Id like it to be as header and in my case have a date on it.

 1. What is exactly the function of the LayoutInflater?
 2. Why do all the articles that I&#39;ve read check if convertview is null or not first? What does it mean when it is null and what does it mean when it isn&#39;t?

How does the getView() method work when creating your own custom adapter?

I want to know the difference between using `BaseAdapter` and `ArrayAdapter`.

I have been achieving what I want through `ArrayAdapters`.

Does it affect the performance of the `ListView` on the adapter interface in which it is implemented ? 

And, the last question is, can i achieve anything doing with `ListView` using any of these `Adapters`, or, there are certain cases where specific adapter only can be used?

What&#39;s the difference between BaseAdapter and ArrayAdapter?

I&#39;m trying to make a list containing names. This list should be modifiable (add, delete, sort, etc). However, whenever I tried to change the items in the ArrayAdapter, the program crashed, with `java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException` error. Here is my code:

Unable to modify ArrayAdapter in ListView: UnsupportedOperationException

I&#39;m facing a very common problem: 
I layed out an activity and now it turns out it should display a few items within this `ScrollView`. The normal way to do that would be to use the existing `ListAdapter`, connect it to a `ListView` and *BOOM* I&#39;d have my list of items.

**BUT** You should not place a nested `ListView` in a `ScrollView` as it screws up the scrolling - even Android Lint complains about it.

So here&#39;s my question:

How do I connect a `ListAdapter` to a `LinearLayout` or something similar?

I know this solution won&#39;t scale for a lot of items but my lists is very short (&lt; 10 items) so reusage of views is not really needed. Performance wise I can live with placing all views directly into the `LinearLayout`.

One solution I came up with would be to place my existing activity layout in the headerView section of the `ListView`. But this feels like abusing this mechanism so I&#39;m looking for a cleaner solution.

Ideas?

Using a ListAdapter to fill a LinearLayout inside a ScrollView layout

I have a ListView that should have the following layout in its rows:

    HEADER
    Text

`HEADER` should be static but the `Text` changes every few seconds.

I implemented it by populating a `String[] array`, pass it to an `ArrayAdapter` and set it every time the data changes:

    data_array = populateString();
    adapter = new ArrayAdapter&lt;String&gt;(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, android.R.id.text1,  data_array);
    listView.setAdapter(adapter);

My problem is that I do not know how to display the data in the format above.

When you implement SpinnerAdapter you get [getDropDownView][1], how does it differ from `getView` which you have when you need to extend `BaseAdapter`.

Difference between getView &amp; getDropDownView in SpinnerAdapter

I tried to create an `Activity` in Android, This Activity only contains a `ListView` nothing else.

As I know to fill the listview we need to use an `ArrayAdapter`.

So to understand the ArrayAdapter I have read the following link:

One of the biggest doubt is why the constructor needs a `TextView` resource id while my activity is not having any TextViews what I should have to give it?
