I have an `onActivityResult` returning from an mediastore image selection which I can get a URI for an image using the following:

    Uri selectedImage = data.getData();

Converting this to a string gives this:

    content://media/external/images/media/47

Or to a path gives:

    /external/images/media/47

However I can&#39;t seem to find a way to convert this into an absolute path, as I want to load the image into a bitmap without having to copy it somewhere. I know this can be done using the URI and content resolver, but this seems to break on rebooting of the phone, I guess `MediaStore` doesn&#39;t keep its numbering the same between reboots.

but, as far as I can see, both `ls` and `find` only give relative path listings:

It seems like an obvious requirement, but I can&#39;t see anything in the `find` or `ls` man pages.

I am setting a configuration to run my tests in a create-react-app + typescript app (**from which I have ejected**). I am using jest + enzyme. In my tsconfig.json I have set `baseUrl=&#39;./src&#39;` so I can use absolute paths when I import modules. For example this is a typical import statement in one of my files:

    import LayoutFlexBoxItem from &#39;framework/components/ui/LayoutFlexBoxItem&#39;;

You can see that the path is absolute (from /src folder) and not relative. 
This works fine when I run in debug mode ( `yarn start` )

But when I run my test ( `yarn test` ), I get this error:

     Cannot find module &#39;framework/components/Navigation&#39; from &#39;index.tsx&#39;

So it looks like jest is not able to resolve this absolute path although I have set it up in my tsconfig.json. This is my tsconfig.json:

So, an *absolute path* is a way to get to a certain file or location describing the full route to it, the full path, and it&#39;s OS dependent (the absolute paths for Windows and Linux, for example, are different). A *relative path*, on the other hand, is a route to a file or location which is described from the current location `..` (two dots) indicating a superior level in the directories tree. That has been clear to me for several years now.

When searching I&#39;ve even seen that there are canonicalized files too!
All I know is that CANONICAL means something like &quot;according to the rules&quot; or something.

Can somebody enlighten me in therms of theory about canonical stuff?

NodeJS - convert relative path to absolute

I have a production and development server.
The problem is the directory structure.

Development: 

* `http://dev.com/subdir/images/image.jpg`
* `http://dev.com/subdir/resources/css/style.css`

Production:

* `http://live.com/images/image.jpg`
* `http://live.com/resources/css/style.css`

How can I have a `style.css` in `css` folder that uses on both servers the same path for the `background: url` property? Is there a trick I can use with relative paths?

I have xml files that contain href file paths to images (e.g. &quot;..\..\images\image.jpg&quot;). The hrefs contain relative paths. Now, I need to extract the hrefs to the images and turn them into absolute paths in the file system.

I know about the GetFullPath method, but I tried it and it only seems to work from the CurrentDirectory set, which appears to be C: so I don&#39;t see how I could use that. And still, I have the absolute path of the file containing the hrefs, and the href relative paths, so since it is a simple task for me to count back the number of &quot;..\..\&quot; parts based on the absolute path of the containing file, it seems there must be a way to do this programmatically as well.

I&#39;ve been using create-react-app package for creating a react website. I was using relative paths throughout my app for importing components, resources, redux etc. eg, `import action from &#39;../../../redux/action`

I have tried using [module-alis][1] npm package but with no success. Is there any plugin that I can use to import based on the folder name or alias i.e. an absolute path?

Eg., `import action from &#39;@redux/action&#39;` or `import action from &#39;@resource/css/style.css&#39;`

I have two files in two different directories, one is `&#39;/home/test/first/first.pdf&#39;`, the other is `&#39;/home/text/second/second.pdf&#39;`. I use following code to compress them:

After I open the zip file that I created, I have a `home` folder in it, then there are two sub-folders in it, `first` and `second`, then the pdf files. I don&#39;t know how to include only two pdf files instead of having full path zipped into the zip archive. I hope I make my question clear, please help.

I have a folder with ten files in it which I want to loop through. When I print out the name of the file my code works fine:

In order to not having to worry about path-separators, `os.join.path()` is obviously the tool of choice. But it seems that this will only ever create *relative* paths:

Adding a dummy first-element (e.g. `&#39;&#39;`) doesn&#39;t help anything:

Slash (/) vs tilde slash (~/) in style sheet path

I downloaded the linux Tor Browser package, which is a self-contained folder. I made a symlink to the run script:

    $ ln -s torbrowser/start-tor-browser ~/bin/torbrowser

However, the link was broken upon creation. All I did was run that command, nothing else, and it was broken. I did ls and got:

    lrwxrwxrwx 1 synful synful 28 Jul 18 21:52 torbrowser -&gt; torbrowser/start-tor-browser

...which is weird because torbrowser/start-tor-browser had 755 permissions. Also, I ran `file`:

    $ file ~/bin/torbrowser
    bin/torbrowser: broken symbolic link to `torbrowser/start-tor-browser&#39;

I made a new bash script and a symlink to it to test this, and had no such problems. I&#39;m not sure why it&#39;s only happening with start-tor-browser. It&#39;s got normal permissions and is just a normal bash script (even according to the file command).

...any ideas?
