This is ubuntu16.04. I can open Anaconda-Navigator from the terminal using 
`anaconda-navigator`, but when I click on it, it doesn&#39;t open. What am I missing?

Try:

    sudo apt-get install maven

If it works for you ignore the rest of this post.

## Intro
I started setting up my Ubuntu 12.10 on April 2013 and the normal  `sudo apt-get install maven` was not working for maven 3 back then. 

The **manual installation** in this post is useful if you like to dig in deeper to your ubuntu kernel in regards with apt-get and where it finds the list of applications that are available for installation on Ubuntu
. It can also be potentially useful for more recent releases of Ubuntu like **Ubuntu 15.04**, etc. if you face the same problem as I did back then with Ubuntu 12.10. 
 
## Automatic Installation via apt-get:
Checkout the **manual installation** if your current ubuntu can not install maven via common &#39;apt-get install maven&#39;.
    
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install maven

Make sure to remove maven 2 if your ubuntu is not fresh or if you were using maven 2 before:

    sudo apt-get remove maven2


##Manual Installation via apt-get by adding maven 3 repository (Ubuntu 14.04 check out update 1):
This can be useful if your ubuntu apt-get repositories list is not up to date.
   
Maven 3 was required to set up the system and as it turns out most of the documents out there are referring to how to install Maven to Ubuntu version 12.04 or before. Best document I found was:

The whole process I came up with is as follows:

1. `sudo -H gedit /etc/apt/sources.list`
2. Add the following line the `sources.list` file:

 &gt; deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/natecarlson/maven3/ubuntu precise main 

 &gt;deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/natecarlson/maven3/ubuntu precise main

3. `sudo apt-get update &amp;&amp; sudo apt-get install maven3`
4. `sudo ln -s /usr/share/maven3/bin/mvn /usr/bin/mvn`

&gt; Caution 1: command &quot;sudo apt-add-repository ppa:natecarlson/maven3&quot; did not work on my  Ubuntu and had to run `sudo apt-add-repository -rm ppa:natecarlson/maven3` to get my apt-get to work again.

&gt; Caution 2: thanks to David, you need to remove your existing symbolic link to previous versions of maven before running step 4.

##OS X Installation
I decided to add OS X installation in case you use multiple environments for your dev: [See the source stackoverflow thread for more details][2].

Install [Homebrew][3] that is the equavalent of `apt-get`, then install Maven using:

    brew install maven

## **Update 1**: **Installation for Ubunutu 14.04**

Haven&#39;t tried this myself but I am confident this should work without security warnings:

    sudo apt-get purge maven maven2 maven3
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:andrei-pozolotin/maven3
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install maven3

How to install Maven 3 on Ubuntu 18.04/17.04/16.10/16.04 LTS/15.10/15.04/14.10/14.04 LTS/13.10/13.04 by using apt-get?

I was trying to set default python version to `python3` in `Ubuntu 16.04`. By default it is `python2` (2.7). I followed below steps :  

    update-alternatives --remove python /usr/bin/python2
    update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python python /usr/bin/python3

but I&#39;m getting the following error for the second statement,    

    rejeesh@rejeesh-Vostro-1015:~$ update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/python python /usr/bin/python3
    update-alternatives: --install needs &lt;link&gt; &lt;name&gt; &lt;path&gt; &lt;priority&gt;
    
    Use &#39;update-alternatives --help&#39; for program usage information.   

I&#39;m new to Ubuntu and Idon&#39;t know what I&#39;m doing wrong.



Unable to set default python version to python3 in ubuntu

How should `yarn` be upgraded to the latest version?

When I run `pip freeze` I see (among other expected packages) `pkg-resources==0.0.0`. I have seen a few posts mentioning this package (including [this one](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38992194/why-does-pip-freeze-list-pkg-resources-0-0-0)), but none explaining what it is, or why it is included in the output of `pip freeze`. The main reason I am wondering is out of curiosity, but also, it seems to break things in some cases when trying to install packages with a `requirements.txt` file generated with `pip freeze` that includes the `pkg-resources==0.0.0` line (for example when [Travis CI][1] tries to install dependencies through `pip` and finds this line).

**What is `pkg-resources`, and is it OK to remove this line from `requirements.txt`?**

# Update:

I have found that this line only seems to exist in the output of `pip freeze` when I am in a `virtualenv`. I am still not sure what it is or what it does, but I will investigate further knowing that it is likely related to `virtualenv`.

Previously, to install docker I would use

    apt-get install docker.io

However, I have recently noticed the documentation for installing docker, and it uses docker-ce. I have tried to find the difference between the two, but have come up empty. What is docker.io in relation to docker-ce?

What is docker.io in relation to docker-ce and docker-ee (now called &quot;Mirantis Kubernetes Engine&quot;)?

I am using Laravel 4.2 with docker. I setup it on local. It worked without any problem but when I am trying to setup online using same procedure then I am getting error:

pull access denied for &lt;projectname&gt;/php, repository does not exist or may require &#39;docker login&#39;

is it something relevant to create repository here https://cloud.docker.com/  or need to docker login in command?

After days of study I am still not able to figure out what could be the fix in this case and what are the right steps?

when I started MongoDB got an error as:

When i try to install php5 in Ubuntu 16.04 by using following code:

    sudo apt-get install php5 php5-mcrypt

I get following error:

I have tried reinstalling but it does not help.

Package php5 have no installation candidate (Ubuntu 16.04)

I have installed ubuntu 16.04 server. Mysql server was installed by default in it. When I am trying to access the mysql with `mysql -u root -p`, I am unable to log in to mysql because I dont have the password. Is there any default password?

I have also tried with `--skip-grant-tables`, even this does not work. Even trying to log in with just `mysql -u root` is a failure.

How to install php-curl in Ubuntu 16.04

I am using Visual Studio 2015 and created a .NET Core console application. After compiling, I have my project DLL file in the *debug* folder. And if I want to run it on another computer, I have to install .NET on it and then write `dotnet myApp.dll` in command window (CMD). But I need to run my application without any installations.

I have read that I must publish my application. I do it with the command `dotnet publish -c Release`. Now in folder *release* I have a new folder, *publish*, with myApp.dll and other dll-files and folder runtimes for different systems. For example, in the *Ubuntu.16.04-x64* folder I have file *System.Security.Cryptography.Native.OpenSsl.so*. But how can I run my application without any new installations of .NET or something else?





How to run a .NET Core console application on Linux

I have a new installation of Linux Mint 18.1 with Ubuntu 16.04.
I have installed Node 6.10.0.

When doing the command that indicates the documentation of Yarn:

    sudo apt-get update &amp;&amp; sudo apt-get install yarn

It says &quot;could not find yarn package&quot;

I must do something else, because in the documentation I do not see anything about it.

I have recently been learning python 3 and I cannot get any examples involving string interpolation (formatting) to work. 

    In [1]: state = &quot;Washington&quot;

    In [2]: state

I figured my machine was defaulting to python 2, but a quick check reveals:

    Python 3.5.2 (default, Nov 17 2016, 17:05:23) 
    Type &quot;copyright&quot;, &quot;credits&quot; or &quot;license&quot; for more information.

    IPython 5.2.2 -- An enhanced Interactive Python.

I am on Ubuntu 16.04:
    
    python3 --version
    Python 3.5.2

Am I just overlooking basic syntax? I have run the same commands on a few computers from fellow students and it seems to execute just fine.



Getting an &quot;invalid syntax&quot; when trying to perform string interpolation

I have **Ubuntu 16.04 LTS** running with **PHP7** and phpmyadmin installed.
However, I get a lot of deprecation notices like:

PHP 7 with phpmyadmin gives lots of Deprecation Notices

I&#39;m following the [docker tutorial][1] and am on the part where I have to build the app using:


    docker build -t friendlyhello .

It reaches up to step 4, where after a pause I get this error:

Temporary failure in name resolution [Errno -3] with Docker

I have `Dbeaver` installed and I have a connection to a PostgreSQL database on a remote server.  
I&#39;d like to export this database to my local PC but when I go to **Tools -&gt; Backup database** I see an error

`Client home is not specified for connection`

What should I specify and where? I can&#39;t find anything about it in the documentation.

I installed Python 2.7.13 on Ubuntu 16.04 according to [this guide][1], and it became the default version as an alternative to the version 2.7.12. But, I wanted to completely remove Python 2.7.13 and return back to the version 2.7.12 as the default version since the `pip` command does not work with the following error. 

    bash: /usr/local/bin/pip: /usr/bin/python: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

Could you please help me how to completely remove Python 2.7.13 from Ubuntu 16.04? Otherwise, could you please suggest how to fix the above error?
