I&#39;m on Mac Snow Leopard and I just installed `git`.

I just tried 

    git clone git@thechaw.com:cakebook.git

but that gives me this error:

    Initialized empty Git repository in `/Users/username/Documents/cakebook/.git/`
    Permission denied (publickey).
    fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly


What am I missing?  
I&#39;ve also tried doing `ssh-keygen` with no passphase but still same error.


Git: How to solve Permission denied (publickey) error when using Git?

I&#39;m attempting to deploy my code to heroku with the following command line:

    git push heroku master

but get the following error:

    Permission denied (publickey).
    fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

I have already uploaded my public SSH key, but it still comes up with this error.

I added the public SSH key to the *authorized_keys* file.  `ssh localhost` should log me in without asking for the password.

I did that and tried typing `ssh localhost`, but it still asks me to type in the password. Is there another setting that I have to go through to make it work?

Then it asks for a passphase after the above log. Why isn&#39;t it logging me in without a password?




Adding a public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys does not log me in automatically

I am trying to get a better grapple on how public/private keys work. I understand that a sender may add a digital signature to a document using his/her private key to essentially obtain a hash of the document, but what I do not understand is how the public key can be used to verify that signature. 

My understanding was that public keys encrypt, private keys decrypt... can anyone help me understand?

I am trying to use my Mac Terminal to scp a file from Downloads (phpMyAdmin I downloaded online) to my Amazon EC2 instance. 

The command I used was:
    
    scp -i myAmazonKey.pem phpMyAdmin-3.4.5-all-languages.tar.gz  hk22@mec2-50-17-16-67.compute-1.amazonaws.com:~/.

The error I got:

Both my myAmazonkey.pem and phpMyAdmin-3.4.5-all-languages.tar.gz are in Downloads, so then I tried 

    scp -i /Users/Hello_Kitty22/Downloads/myAmazonKey.pem /Users/Hello_Kitty22/Downloads/phpMyAdmin-3.4.5-all-languages.tar.gz  hk22@mec2-50-17-16-67.compute-1.amazonaws.com:~/.

and the error I got:

Getting the PublicKeyToken of .Net assemblies

I am developing some private projects on Github, and I would like to add nightly cronjobs to my deployments servers to pull the latest version from github. I am currently doing this by generating keypairs on every deployment server and adding the public key to the github project as &#39;Deployment key&#39;. 

However, I recently found out that these deployment keys actually do have write access to the project. Hence, every of the server administrators could potentially start editing. Furthermore I can add every deployment key to only one repository, whereas I would like to be able to deploy multiple repositories on one and the same deployment server.

Is there a way to provide read-only access for private repositories to selected users on Github?

I&#39;ve searched around for many hours on end looking to a solution to my seemingly easy-to-fix problem. It&#39;s not that my search turned up nothing, it&#39;s that my search turned up so many different solutions -none of which have worked.

Anyways, I am simply unable to push, pull, or fetch from my Heroku repository from my Mac. Every attempt gives me (as if it&#39;s mocking me) the following error:

I&#39;ve tried (and re-tried) to fix it in many different ways. As I&#39;ve said, I&#39;ve spent a good chunk of the last two days searching around for an answer. Here are some of the things I&#39;ve tried:

 - heroku keys:clear followed by heroku keys:add
 - Regenerating an ssh key on my own with &#39;ssh-keygen -t rsa&#39;
 - Clearing out my .ssh directory, followed by heroku keys:clear, followed by generating an ssh key
 - Deleting my app on heroku and recreating one (fortunately not much was on there)

I can fetch from my GitHub repository fine, so I know it&#39;s not network connectivity (pinging heroku also works). 

As a makeshift solution (that I hope doesn&#39;t turn into a permanent one), I&#39;ve logged in to my Ubuntu Amazon AWS ec2 instance. Pulling and pushing to and from Heroku works perfectly. For this reason, I still feel as if the problem lies with the ssh key on my Mac. Both keys show up under my Heroku account. Does the email address at the end of the key matter?

EDIT: I can push and pull from GitHub fine (I&#39;m not using ssh, however), so why not Heroku?

According to my understanding, pub1 and pub2 contain the same public key information, but they are in different format, I wonder how can I transform between the two format? Can anyone show me some concise introduction on the tow formats?

I used PuTTY Key Generator to generate a 4096 bit RSA-2 key with a passphrase.

I got a problem with adding an ssh key to a Vagrant VM. Basically the setup that I have here works fine. Once the VMs are created, I can access them via `vagrant ssh`, the user &quot;vagrant&quot; exists and there&#39;s an ssh key for this user in the `authorized_keys` file.

What I&#39;d like to do now is: to be able to connect to those VMs via `ssh` or use `scp`. So I would only need to add my public key from `id_rsa.pub` to the `authorized_keys` - just like I&#39;d do with `ssh-copy-id`. 

Is there a way to tell Vagrant during the setup that my public key should be included? If not (which is likely, according to my google results), is there a way to easily append my public key during the vagrant setup?

I am having issues setting up OpenSSH for Windows, using public key authentication.

I have this working on my local desktop and can ssh with a key from Unix machines or other OpenSSH for Windows machines.

I have replicated the build onto a server, I can get password authentication working fine, but when I use the keys I get the following issue:

So for the purposes of testing, I have been just trying to SSH to localhost, but even when tried remotely I get the same issue.

Even more strange, is that when I have both password and public key enabled in `sshd_config`, it will only attempt to use keys and then bomb out with the above message and won&#39;t even try to use password.

Here are the steps I have taken:

1. Install OpenSSH for Windows
2. `mkgroup -l &gt;&gt;..\etc\group` (added local groups)
3. `mkgroup -d &gt;&gt;..\etc\group` (added domain groups)
4. `mkpasswd -L -u openssh &gt;&gt;..\passwd` (added my local user)
5. `mkpasswd -D -u jsadmint2232 &gt;&gt;..\passwd` (added my domain user)
6. Edited the homedir in file *passwd* to point to c:\sshusers\%USER% - where %USER% is the user name
7. Enabled password authentication, disabled key authentication
8. Created SSH keys for both jsadmint2232 / OpenSSH and ensured that the files were created in home directories
9. Added authorized_keys files into .ssh directories for each user and added keys for incoming connecting users
10. `net stop opensshd` / `net start opensshd`
11. Test if password authentication works both locally and remotely
12. Updated sshd_config, to enabled key auth - restart opensshd
13. Test connection and get above error. Also, it doesn&#39;t even try password authentication.
14. Updated sshd_config, to disable password authentication completely - restart opensshd
15. Test connection and still get above error

It appears the server is killing the connection for some reason.


Setting up OpenSSH for Windows using public key authentication

I am writing a program using pysftp, and it wants to verify the SSH host Key against `C:\Users\JohnCalvin\.ssh\known_hosts`.

Using PuTTY, the terminal program is saving it to the Registry `[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\SshHostKeys]`.

How do I reconcile the difference between pysftp and PuTTY?

I&#39;m trying to push a file to a git repo of a friend but errors on public key.

    Permission denied (publickey).
    fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Where and how do we define public / private keys? 

`git remote -v` returns:

I have created two GitHub accounts.  One for my work user and one for my personal self.  I needed to do catch up on some work and as such cloned my work repo onto my personal PC.  In order to do simple &quot;git push origin master&quot; commits without entering my username and password the whole time I simply want to add my public key from my home pc to the work repo. i&#39;m using [Paramiko][1] to connect through ssh to a server.

Basic authentication works well, but i can&#39;t understand how to connect with public key.

When i connect with putty, the server tell me this:

I connect to it with this ppk file:

    Private-MAC: [hash]


With basic auth the error i get (from the log) is:

Well I am not sure I understand this security measure. I know how to get the application public key (which is already base 64 encoded) from Google Play Developer Console. 


What I am not understanding is this part

As far as I know, this public key is a constant string, which is given from Google during application upload process. 

How can we create the same key programmatically using any bit manipulation process? Has someone done it before? Is there any sample code on how to do this?





Android In App Billing: securing application public key

I have used Puttygen to create a public and a private key, and then is ready to let TortoiseHg on Windows 7 do a clone by going to 

    ssh://somebody@code.somewhere.com/somecode

but there seems to be no where to add the private key to TortoiseHg?  (or even just the mercurial command line)

The file is already some where on hard disk as somefile.ppk   Does someone know how to add it?
