I&#39;m hitting this with everything I can find here and can think of to permit the text to wrap on many lines but to no avail: The text is always forced to a single line, running off the screen. It might matter that I&#39;m working inside a TableRow here, and so far as I can tell this hasn&#39;t been treated on this site.

So I am running a Python script within which I am calling Python&#39;s debugger, PDB by writing:

    import ipdb; ipdb.set_trace()

(iPython&#39;s version of PDB, though for the matter I don&#39;t think it makes a difference; I use it for the colored output only).

Now, when I get to the debugger I want to execute a multi-line statement such as an if clause or a for loop but as soon as I type

The problem is that if a user has a multi line string, the indentation made to the whole script affects the string, by inserting a tab in every space. How to Export a Multi-line Environment Variable in Bash/Terminal e.g: RSA Private Key

I have a very long query. I would like to split it in several lines in Python. A way to do it in JavaScript would be using several sentences and joining them with a `+` operator (I know, maybe it&#39;s not the most efficient way to do it, but I&#39;m not really concerned about performance in this stage, just code readability). Example:

How to split the definition of a long string over multiple lines?

I am developing an app for sending some feedback.

Basically I&#39;m trying to make a `TextBox` for comments, but I&#39;m used to the WinForms `MultiLine=true`. I&#39;ve set `MinLines` to 3, which is getting there, but preferably I&#39;d like it if the user is able to type wherever in this block - like press enter and do dot points sort of thing. For example:

    - Item 1        blah
    - Item 2                blahlb lahbvl   d

But at the moment the text all stays on one line.

    - Item 1         blah - Item 2                      blahb blahb blah

These comments will then help fill the body of an email which is sent. It may be pointless if I can&#39;t easily keep the same formatting when putting this string into the email body string (so that it looks like it does when sent as it does when typed).

Can I achieve what I&#39;m after or do I have to leave it as all text on one line?

How do I make an EditText on Android such that the user may not enter a multi-line text, but the display is still multi-line (i.e. there is word-wrap instead of the text going over to the right)?

What I want to do is the following:

 1. read in multiple line input from `stdin` into variable `A`
 2. make various operations on `A`
 3. pipe `A` without losing delimiter symbols (`\n`,`\r`,`\t`,etc) to another command

The current problem is that, I can&#39;t read it in with `read` command, because it stops reading at newline.

I can read stdin with `cat`, like this:

    my_var=`cat /dev/stdin`

, but then I don&#39;t know how to print it. So that the newline, tab, and other delimiters are still there.

My sample script looks like this:

    #!/usr/local/bin/bash
    
    A=`cat /dev/stdin`
    
    if [ ${#A} -eq 0 ]; then
            exit 0

            cat ${A} | /usr/local/sbin/nextcommand

How do I get multi-line text on a WPF Button using only C#? I have seen examples of using `&lt;LineBreak/&gt;` in XAML, but my buttons are created completely programmatically in C#. The number and labels on the buttons correspond to values in the domain model, so I don&#39;t think I can use XAML to specify this.

I have tried the naive approach below, but it does not work.

    Button b = new Button();
    b.Content = &quot;Two\nLines&quot;;

or

    b.Content = &quot;Two\r\nLines&quot;;

In either case, all i see is the first line (&quot;Two&quot;) of the text.

Given a command that takes a single long string argument like:

is it possible to somehow split it in a way similar to how separate arguments can be split with `\`.

I tried:

mycommand -arg1 &quot;very \

which ...&quot;
```
but this doesn&#39;t work.

`mycommand` is an external command so cannot be modified to take single arguments.

`input` does not allow user to put lines separated by newline (&lt;kbd&gt;Enter&lt;/kbd&gt;), it prints back only the first line.

What is a clean way to create a multi-line `with` in python? I want to open up several files inside a single `with`, but it&#39;s far enough to the right that I want it on multiple lines. Like this:

But what if I wanted to place a comment? This does not work:

         # my comment explaining why I wanted Dummy() as c\
         Dummy() as c:
        pass

Nor does any obvious variation on the placement of the `\`s.

Is there a clean way to create a multi-line `with` statement that allows comments inside it?
