What good tool can be recommended for emulating Internet Explorer 6?  I would rather not have to go and install an old copy of Windows XP somewhere.

I have tried to modify the DOM by adding attributes `height` and `width` on the fly, but seems did not work on IE6.

I need recommendations on a good Internet Explorer standalone for Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8.

I tried using [Tredosoft&#39;s Internet Explorer 7 standalone][1] and MultiIE for Internet Explorer 6, but select elements were being blocked as pop-ups, even when the pop-up blocker was turned off, in all Internet Explorer browsers (6,7,8).

I also tried the Internet Explorer Collection from Edskes, but Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 refuse to let me type in a text box.

If someone can provide me with either a solution or an alternative that&#39;d be brilliant.

Also, I&#39;m using [VMware Fusion][2] to run Windows XP on my Mac.

How would I remove the border from an iframe embedded in my web app? An example of the iframe is:

I would like the transition from the content on my page to the contents of the iframe to be seamless, assuming the background colors are consistent. The target browser is IE6 only and unfortunately solutions for others will not help.

Here&#39;s the problem. I have an image:

Note no height or width specified.

On certain pages I want to only show a thumbnail. I can&#39;t alter the html, so I use the following CSS:

    .blog_list div.postbody img { width:75px; }

Which (in most browsers) makes a page of uniformly wide thumbnails, all with preserved aspect ratios.

In IE6 though, the image is only scaled in the dimension specified in the CSS. It retains the &#39;natural&#39; height.

Here&#39;s an example of a pair of pages that illustrate the problem:

I&#39;d be very grateful for all suggestions, but would like to point out that (due to the limitations of the clients chosen platform) I&#39;m looking for something that doesn&#39;t involve modifying the html. CSS would also be preferable to javascript.

How to preserve aspect ratio when scaling image using one (CSS) dimension in IE6?

I&#39;m currently using the following function to &#39;convert&#39; a relative URL to an absolute one:

	function qualifyURL(url) {
		var a = document.createElement(&#39;a&#39;);
		a.href = url;
		return a.href;
	}

This works quite well in most browsers but IE6 insists on returning the relative URL still! It does the same if I use getAttribute(&#39;href&#39;). 

The only way I&#39;ve been able to get a qualified URL out of IE6 is to create an img element and query it&#39;s &#39;src&#39; attribute - the problem with this is that it generates a server request; something I want to avoid.

So my question is: Is there any way to get a fully qualified URL in IE6 from a relative one (without a server request)?

Before you recommend a quick regex/string fix I assure you it&#39;s not that simple. Base elements + double period relative urls + a tonne of other potential variables really make it hell! 

There must be a way to do it without having to create a mammoth of a regex&#39;y solution??

Getting an absolute URL from a relative one. (IE6 issue)

I noticed that when a link is clicked externally from the web browser, such as from Excel or Word, that my session cookie is initially unrecognized, even if the link opens up in a new tab of the same browser window.

The browser ends up recognizing its cookie eventually, but I am puzzled as to why that initial link from Excel or Word doesn&#39;t work. To make it even more challenging, clicking a link works fine from Outlook.

Does anybody know why this might be happening? I&#39;m using the Zend Framework with PHP 5.3.

Sorry for my inpatience but after weeks staying up late and just having put my web online, I just don&#39;t have any left energy to debug... I just can&#39;t Google how to implement JSON on IE6 &amp; IE7... I&#39;m using

    JSON.stringify(...)

From what I understand JSON is not built in on IE6-7 and has to be dynamically added in in-line code... how do you do that?

I already have jQuery - is it my correct understanding that their JSON engine relies on the browser native one?

Then some comment on invalid JSON code that makes IE6-7 fail, but I thought it wasn&#39;t native in IE6-7?

Inline block doesn&#39;t work in internet explorer 7, 6

I develop on a mac. I love my mac. I develop using Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I love them all for different reasons.

But I have to develop for Internet Explorer users as well. 

I know, I am not unique here.

I enjoy using the webkit inspector / firebug to mess with CSS. One of the biggest issues I&#39;ve found when testing ie6-8 is the inability to edit CSS on the fly. The back and forth to a VM or an actual pc, trying something in CSS, saving, reloading in IE, failing, and repeating, leads to a slow development process.

So, on to my actual question.

Is there any sort of online emulator/simulator for various internet explorer versions? Something that somehow renders the page using the ie engine, but still allows me to use my inspector? 

Is this even possible?

So I have created a slider for a homepage, that slides some images with a title and teaser text using jQuery. Everything works fine, and I went to check IE and found that IE 6 and 7 kills my slider css completely. I&#39;ve tracked down that it is the

    ul {
      position: relative;
    }

on the ul element that is causing the overflow: hidden not to work, but why that is, I don&#39;t know. Also this is needed to make the slider javascript work using the left attribute on the ul to slide it. Any ideas as to how you can fix this is most welcome.

Like everyone else, I need to test my code on Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7. Now Internet Explorer 8 has some great tools for developer, which I&#39;d like to use. I&#39;d also like to start testing my code with Internet Explorer 8, as it will soon be released.

The question is: how to run Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, and Internet Explorer 8 on the same machine. So far with Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 I&#39;ve been using [Multiple IE][1]. But people have reported (see comments on the page linked in the previous sentence) issue with Internet Explorer 6 after installing Internet Explorer 8. Those errors are related to focus in form fields. Running Internet Explorer 7 wouldn&#39;t matter so much as Internet Explorer 8 can use the Internet Explorer 7 rendering engine, but we still need Internet Explorer 6.
