With reference to the new `TextInputLayout` released by Google, how do I change the floating label text color?

Setting `colorControlNormal`, `colorControlActivated`, `colorControlHighLight` in styles does not help.

I am using android design library&#39;s `TextinputLayout`. But couldn&#39;t customize the hint color, label color and the underline color of `EditText` inside `TextinputLayout`. Please help.

This may seem counter-intuitive but is there a way to disable or remove the floating label hint in `TextInputLayout`? The reason I want to use `TextInputLayout` instead of just an `EditText` is for the counter that `TextInputLayout` provides.

Disable/Remove floating label hint text in TextInputLayout XML

After updating some of our devices to android 8.0 , upon focusing on a `TextInputEditText` field inside of a `TextInputLayout`, the app crashes with this `Exception`:

When we go to android **Settings -&gt; System -&gt; Languages &amp; input -&gt; Advanced -&gt; Auto-fill service -&gt; None** , then focusing on the `TextInputEditText` `/` `TextInputLayout` no longer crashes.

**How can we prevent the crash from happening without having to disable the new 8.0 Auto-fill service on the devices?**

I&#39;m using an ```EditText``` inside a ```TextInputLayout```, but after upgrading the support library to 23.2.0, I get this warning in the logcat, What&#39;s the difference between a regular ```EditText``` and a ```TextInputEditText```? I can&#39;t seem to find any documentation for it.

EditText added is not a TextInputEditText. Please switch to using that class instead

How can I change the colour of the error message that can be set to appear below the text field in a `TextInputLayout` (via `setError(...)` – [see error state here][1])?

It normally shows as a red colour, which I want to change. Which item names/keys should I use in my `styles.xml` file to target the colour?

**Edit 2/Outcome:**

When the error message appears, the hint above the field changes to the same colour as the error message, overriding hint colour – this is by design.

How to set TextInputLayout error message colour?

I&#39;m trying to customize a TextInputLayout with material style. I managed to set the focused state to the colors I want:

Change the TextInputLayout outline color

After using the Android Design Support Library&#39;s [`TextInputLayout`](https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/design/widget/TextInputLayout.html) to place a floating label above an [`EditText`](http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/EditText.html) component, I was wondering if there is a way to add a floating label to the [`Spinner`](http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/controls/spinner.html) component (not necessarily using the Design Library).

By this, I mean something like a [`TextView`](http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/TextView.html) placed above the `Spinner` (obviously no animations like the `TextInputLayout`), but I want the **text size, font and colour to match that of the `TextInputLayout`&#39;s floating label**.

For example, it would look something like this (see the labels above the `Spinner`s):

As I mentioned before, my main aim is to have a label above the `Spinner`, just as in the `TextInputLayout` - so text size, font, colour, and distances between the label and the component would be the same.

On the [Google Design page about floating label text fields](https://www.google.com/design/spec/components/text-fields.html#text-fields-floating-labels), there is a diagram showing dimensions of the label relative to the component, but there is no indication of the label text colour or size:

**So, to summarise, I am asking:**   
- If there is a special component to achieve what I am asking or a custom view I can use, what would it be, and how can I use it.   
- If not, what is the floating label text size, colour and font, so that I can place a `TextView` above my `Spinner` with the layout dimensions shown in the above image.

From the [Google Design guidelines for text fields](https://www.google.co.uk/design/spec/components/text-fields.html#text-fields-floating-labels), it has the following for floating labels:

&gt;Hint and input font: Roboto Regular 16sp  
&gt;Label font: Roboto Regular 12sp  
&gt;Tile height: 72dp  
&gt;Text top and bottom padding: 16dp  
&gt;Text field divider padding: 8dp  

as well as the images shown above. 

So the floating label font is: _**Roboto Regular 12sp**_. You can therefore use a `TextView` to display the `Spinner` label as I do not know of any custom `View`s or special components you could use.

**However**, after trying it out, it does not look quite as good as the example shown in the image. A **custom view may be better for this**, as it could look nicer, but the solution above is just one way of achieving something close to what I originally wanted.

How to change the hint size of TextInputLayout

I have an EditText and it&#39;s parent is TextInputLayout.
I am trying to give hint programmatically for EditText, (not in layout)
in this case Text input hint animation is not working, it&#39;s working like simple EditText. can some one suggest how to handle it.

TextInputLayout has no effect for giving hint programmatically in EditText

I recently used `TextInputLayout` and it&#39;s `setError()` method. The problem I&#39;m getting is, when I clear the error by calling `setError(null)` it leaves so much of empty space at the bottom.

*Normal:*

After looking at the source, I found that they are making the view `INVISIBLE` instead of `GONE`

TextInputLayout.setError() leaves empty space after clearing the error

I have to use `TextInputLayout` of design support library in my project. I want to give space between `hint` and `EditText` in `TextInputLayout`.
