There is not enough info about camera2 face detection mechanism. I used the Camera2 sample from Google: [https://github.com/android/camera-samples][1]

I set face detection mode to FULL.

I know the approach with [FaceDetector][2]. I just wanted to check how it works with the new camera2 [Face][3].

I want to autofocus Android camera as soon as camera holds still. Im looking for tutorials or samples how to do it or at least small sample that shows what classes I can use to hook on such events.

I am currently working on Flashlight On/OFF. I am getting this error `java.lang.RuntimeException: Fail to connect to camera service` I don&#39;t know why this error is occurring. android java lang runtimeexception fail to connect to camera service

Does anybody know is it possible to open some personal picture when emulator camera starts?

I have an application which is based on image analysis and I would like when I click a button for camera that camera opens not that default Android emulator moving image. I want it to open some image which I set as a default image. So when I choose to take a picture it will show only that image and when I take a take a picture, that image will be saved to gallery, not Android default image.

I&#39;m trying to use the cameras LED flashlight in a widget. I&#39;ve found several threads about this topic (i.e. [the one][1] mentioned later..) , now I&#39;m trying to control the light using:

In the AndroidManifest.xml tried different permissions, currently I have:

I&#39;m testing this on my Galaxy Tab as I don&#39;t have any other Android devices at hand: the light does not turn on. So I have a few questions now:

 1. Is there any way to test the led light behavior in the Emulator?
 2. Am I doing something wrong here?
 3. According to [this][2] question which deals with the same problem, it works differently on the Galaxy Tab. How?
 4. And finally, if it does work differently, I&#39;m starting to wonder if it&#39;s just the Galaxy Tab or if other devices use different methods too. It would be hard to test then and it seems rather odd to me.

By the way, I quickly tested with [quick-settings][3] which gets mentioned a few times here. The flashlight doesn&#39;t work with quick-settings either.

Note that the Galaxy Tab stil uses android 2.2. I see there were some changes between 2.2 and 2.3.

I know it has to work somehow as I have found other apps in the market that work perfectly with the Galaxy Tab.

If I set cam.setParameters(p); and directly ask the camera for the current state with getFlashMode() it correctly returns FLASH_MODE_TORCH. However, if I release the camera and re-open it, it returns FLASH_MODE_OFF. It&#39;s almost as if the Camera object aknowledges the request but doesn&#39;t really pass it on to the hardware!?

After Konstantins comment, I removed the cam.release(); part. He is right, the settings are not persisted if you release the camera. If you use cam.open() again, you will get a fresh instance with the light off. The light&#39;s still not working on the galaxy tab though.
So, I guess it&#39;s hard to keep the light on if you&#39;re trying to control it through a widget then. As soon as the background service is finished, the camera object is released automatically and therefore the light switches off again. My questions still remain, especially why the camera doesn&#39;t switch on in the first place.

What I&#39;m trying to do seems very simple, but after a few days of searching I can&#39;t quite figure it out. 

I have an application that allows the user to select multiple(up to 5) images. I&#39;m using an `ImageView`. When the user clicks on the `ImageView`, I&#39;d like to allow them the option to 

 1. Select the image from the gallery, or 
 2. Use the camera to capture an image.

I started by using the `ACTION_GET_CONTENT` intent, and that works well for getting to the gallery. So then I tried using the `ACTION_PICK_ACTIVITY` intent to allow the user to choose camera or gallery:

Allow user to select camera or gallery for image

I have an android application which contains multiple activities. 

In one of them I&#39;m using a button which will call the device camera :

In the same activity I call the `OnActivityResult` method for the image result :

The problem is that the intent `data` is null and the `OnActivityResult` method turns directly to the `(resultCode == RESULT_CANCELED)` and the application returns to the previous avtivity.

How can I fix this issue and after calling the camera, the application returns to the current activity which contains an `ImageView` which will contains the picture taken?

I&#39;ve been working on making my custom camera activity on Android, but when rotating the camera, the aspect ratio of the surface view gets messed up.

In my oncreate for the activity, I set the framelayout which holds the surface view that displays the camera&#39;s parameters.

Android Camera Preview Stretched

The new camera2 API confuses me. I want to develop an app **(for Android APIs 10 - 21)** which uses the device&#39;s camera. As stated [here][1], I should use the &quot;Camera&quot; API. 

However, when I try to add the &quot;Camera&quot; API *(android.hardware.Camera)* to the manifest&#39;s user features, [it is marked as deprecated][2]. On the other hand, I cannot change it to the &quot;camera2&quot; API *(android.hardware.camera2)* since it is only compatible with Android API 21+ (Android 5 - Lollipop) - Would have linked it too, but I can only add 2 links.

Not only do I want my app to run on older versions of Android, but also the newest one...

I&#39;m trying to get my app ready for the new Android M permissions changes and found some weird behaviour. My app uses the Camera intent mechanism to allow the user to get a picture form the camera. But in another activity needs to make use of the camera itself with Camera permission (because of a library dependency card.io that requires this).

However with M in the activity that only needs a camera intent when I try to launch the Camera intent I see the following crash (this does not happen if I remove the Camera permission from the Manifest),

Am I doing anything wrong?

Camera activity returning null android

I am creating an application in which I want to capture a image and then I want to send that image in the email as a attachment.

I am opening a camera using `android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE` intent action and I am passing the Uri of the file as a parameter `EXTRA_OUTPUT` to get the image back to the file. This is working perfectly and I am able to get the captured image if I use the `external storage uri` as a  `EXTRA_OUTPUT` but if I use the data folder uri it is not working and the camera is not closing and its all buttons are not working.

Here is my code for get the result in the external storage directory

I knew that the **data folder is not accessible to third application** so may be this causes an issue so I have create one content provider to share the file.

Now if I pass the url other then external storage directory the camera is opening but it is not closing in emulator but in device the camera is going to closed but I am not getting the result.

Also I have given the permission to **write the external storage** and also for **use the camera**.

I am able to capture the image using the external storage but I want to store the image in the data directory instead of external storage because if the external storage in not available I want to capture the image and want to send mail.

If I create content provide then I can also share my image to the email application.

**If we not provide the extras with the camera intent it will return the image as a byte[] in the activity result as a data extra but this is for the purpose of the thumbnail so I can&#39;t get the high resolution image using this way.**
 

How to get camera result as a uri in data folder?

I want to get file name from sdcard file path.
e.g. :`/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/1414240995236.jpg  I want get 1414240995236.jpg`
 I have written the code to fetch the same but it is not working. Please help.

How to get file name from file path in android

I&#39;m trying to controlling the Android camera to take pictures in a portrait app, but when I save the picture, it&#39;s in landscape. I&#39;ve rotated the image 90 grades with  [`setCameraDisplayOrientation()`][1] method, but doesn&#39;t work.

Then I&#39;ve found this [post][2] but the `TAG_ORIENTATION` is `0` (undefined). If I catch this value and apply a rotation value, doesn&#39;t work either. 

How I can take a photo in portrait and save it with a good orientation?

Controlling the camera to take pictures in portrait doesn&#39;t rotate the final images

I am writing an Android 1.5 application which starts just after boot-up. This is a `Service` and should take a picture without preview. This app will log the light density in some areas whatever. I was able to take a picture but the picture was black. 

After researching for a long time, I came across a bug thread about it. If you don&#39;t generate a preview, the image will be black since Android camera needs preview to setup exposure and focus. I&#39;ve created a `SurfaceView` and the listener, but the `onSurfaceCreated()` event never gets fired.  
 
I guess the reason is, the surface is not being created visually. I&#39;ve also seen some examples of calling the camera statically with `MediaStore.CAPTURE_OR_SOMETHING` which takes a picture and saves in the desired folder with two lines of code, but it doesn&#39;t take a picture too.  

Do I need to use IPC and `bindService()` to call this function? Or is there an alternative method to achieve this?

Taking picture from camera without preview

If your Android app uses the device camera to take a picture and then resizes it (this is very, very common to reduce the size for upload), you might not realize that this resize operation __strips__ the Exif metadata.

This can cause problems, especially if the device in question relies on the &#39;Orientation&#39; tag to properly show the image upright.

Different Android devices handle camera/image rotation in different ways - my trusty old Nexus One seems to always rotate the image immediately post capture, so the file&#39;s native contents are always &#39;upright&#39; when viewed.

However, other devices (especially Samsung phones in my testing), do *not* rotate the contents of the image file - rather, they set the Exif &#39;Orientation&#39; tag. Whenever the image is displayed later, the relevant image code should detect the presence of the Orientation &#39;tag&#39; and rotate the image appropriately. But if you have done any bitmap processing on the image and saved it to a new file, all of that Exif data is lost.

In addition to Orientation data, you might also lose other valuable metadata such as make/model, etc.

This confused me for a few weeks (image appears upright when displayed in phone gallery, but then arrives on my server with bad orientation and no apparent metadata). I&#39;m adding this self-question here to help others. This blog post was very helpful:
