I want to create a `div` that can change its width/height as the window&#39;s width changes.

Are there any CSS3 rules that would allow the height to change according to the width, **while maintaining its aspect ratio**?

I know I can do this via JavaScript, but I would prefer using only CSS.

I am working with images, and I ran into a problem with aspect ratios.

As you can see, `height` and `width` are already specified. I added a CSS rule for images:

But for `big_image.jpg`, I receive `width=500` and `height=600`. How do I set images to be re-sized, whilst keeping their aspect ratios.

I seen in many posts for resizing the image by keeping aspect ratio. These functions uses the fixed points(Width and Height) for RECT while resizing. But in my project, I need to resize the view based on the Width alone, Height should be taken automatically based on the aspect ratio.

I&#39;ve been working on making my custom camera activity on Android, but when rotating the camera, the aspect ratio of the surface view gets messed up.

In my oncreate for the activity, I set the framelayout which holds the surface view that displays the camera&#39;s parameters.

Android Camera Preview Stretched

I have a site to put together that has a fixed aspect ratio of approximately `16:9` landscape, like a video. 

I want to have it centred and expand to fill the available width, and the available height, but never to grow larger on either side. 

**For example:**

 1. A tall and thin page would have the content stretching the full width while maintaining a proportional height.
 2. A short wide page would have the content stretching the full height, with a proportional width.

There are two methods I&#39;ve been looking at:

 1. Use an image with the right aspect ratio to expand a container `div`, but I couldn&#39;t get it to behave the same way across major browsers. 
 2. Setting a proportional bottom padding, but that only works relatively to the width and ignores the height. It just keeps getting bigger with the width and displays vertical scroll bars.

I know you could do this with JS quite easily, but I&#39;d like a pure CSS solution.

Maintain aspect ratio of div but fill screen width and height in CSS?

When I set up an equal aspect ratio for a 3d graph, the `z-axis` does not change to &#39;equal&#39;. So this:

This seems like it ought to be easy, but I&#39;m just not getting something.

I want to make an HTML page containing a single SVG image that automatically scales to fit the browser window, without any scrolling and while preserving its aspect ratio.

For example, at the moment I have a 1024x768 SVG image; if the browser viewport is 1980x1000 then I want the image to display at 1333x1000 (fill vertically, centred horizontally).  If the browser was 800x1000 then I want it to display at 800x600 (fill horizontally, centred vertically).

Currently I have it defined like so:

I am not sure how the app:layout_constraintDimensionRatio works. My understanding is the ratio will always be width:height. So 3:1 will always make the ImageView appear 3 times wider than height. The prefix H or W tells ConstraintLayout which dimension should respect the ratio. If it is H then it means width will be first computed from other constraints and then height will be adjusted according to the aspect ratio. However this is the result of the layout:

The height is 3 times larger than width which is unexpected. Can anyone explain to me how the dimensions are computed with respect to app:layout_constraintDimensionRatio setting?

ConstraintLayout aspect ratio

I have implemented some screens using libGDX that would obviously use the `Screen` class provided by the libGDX framework. However, the implementation for these screens works only with pre-defined screen sizes. For example, if the sprite was meant for a 640 x 480 size screen (4:3 Aspect ratio), it won&#39;t work as intended on other screen sizes because the sprites go par the screen boundaries and are not scaled to the screen size at all. Moreover, if simple scaling would have been provided by the libGDX, the issue I am facing would have still been there because that would cause the aspect ratio of the game screen to change.

After researching on internet, I came across a [blog/forum][1] that had discussed the same issue. I have implemented it and so far it is working fine. But I want to confirm whether this is the best option to achieve this or whether there are better alternatives. Below is the code to show how I am dealing with this legitimate problem.

**UPDATE:** I recently came to know that libGDX has some of its own functionality to maintain aspect ratios which I would like to discuss here. While searching the aspect ratio issue across the internet, I came across several forums/developers who had this problem of &quot;How to maintain the aspect ratio on different screen sizes?&quot; One of the solutions that really worked for me was posted above.

Later on when I proceeded with implementing the `touchDown()` methods for the screen, I found that due to scaling on resize, the co-ordinates on which I had implemented `touchDown()` would change by a great amount. After working with some code to translate the co-ordinates in accordance with the screen resize, I reduced this amount to a great extent but I wasn&#39;t successful to maintain them with pin point accuracy. For example, if I had implemented `touchDown()` on a texture, resizing the screen would shift the touchListener on the texture region some pixels to the right or left, depending on the resize and this was obviously undesired.

Later on I came to know that the stage class has its own native functionality to maintain the aspect ratio (`boolean stretch = false`). Now that I have implemented my screen by using the stage class, the aspect ratio is maintained well by it. However on resize or different screen sizes, the black area that is generated always appears on the right side of the screen; that is the screen is not centered which makes it quite ugly if the black area is substantially large. 

Can any community member help me out to resolve this problem?

The blue element [maintains its aspect ratio according to its width][1] when the page is resized.
**This works with Chrome and IE** and looks like :

However, in **Firefox** and **Edge**, I get the following (it&#39;s ignoring the padding on the blue box, which is what maintains the aspect ratio):

I&#39;m too new to flexbox to really understand if this should or shouldn&#39;t work. The whole point of flexbox is to resize things, but I&#39;m not sure why it is ignoring the intrinsic padding, and putting absolute sizes on the blue element.

I guess ultimately I&#39;m not even sure if Firefox or Chrome is doing the correct thing! Can any Firefox flexbox experts help?

I am loading an image to an imageview with mode as &#39;Aspect Fit&#39;. I need to know the size to which my image is being scaled to. Please help.

How to know the image size after applying aspect fit for the image in an UIImageView

I need to convert a bunch of video files using FFmpeg. I run a Bash file that converts all the files nicely, however there is a problem if a file converted is not in 16:9 format.

As I am fixing the size of the screen to -s 720x400, if the aspect ratio of the original is 4:3, FFmpeg creates a 16:9 output file, screwing up the aspect ratio.

Is there a setting that allows setting an aspect ratio as the main parameter, with size being adjusted (for example, by fixing an X or Y dimension only)?

How would I go implementing a fixed aspect ratio `View`? I&#39;d like to have items with 1:1 aspect ratio in a `GridView`. I think it&#39;s better to subclass the children than the `GridView`?

EDIT: I assume this needs to be done programmatically, that&#39;s no problem. Also, I don&#39;t want to limit the size, only the aspect ratio.
