**Session Storage:** 

1. Values persist only as long as the window or tab in which they stored.

2. Values are only visible within the window or tab that created them.

**Local Storage:**

1. Values persist window and browser lifetimes.

2. Values are shared across every window or tab running at the same origin.

So, by reading and understanding this each key-value pair is unique for each domain, because local storage persist values across window or tab.


The values are going to overwrite each other. Each key-name pair is unique for a protocol and domain, regardless of the paths.

The affected domain can be changed via the `document.domain` property.

* `sub.example.com` -&gt; `example.com` is possible (subdomain)
* `sub.example.com` -&gt; `other.example.com` is not possible

I am trying to add a drop shadow to views that are layered on top of one another, the views collapse allowing content in other views to be seen, in this vein i want to keep `view.clipsToBounds` ON so that when the views collapse their content is clipped.

This seems to have made it difficult for me to add a drop shadow to the layers as when i turn `clipsToBounds` ON the shadows are clipped also.

I have been trying to manipulate `view.frame` and `view.bounds` in order to add a drop shadow to the frame but allow the bounds to be large enough to encompass it, however I have had no luck with this.

Here is the code I am using to add a Shadow (this only works with `clipsToBounds` OFF as shown)

    view.clipsToBounds = NO;
    view.layer.shadowColor = [[UIColor blackColor] CGColor];
    view.layer.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0,5);
    view.layer.shadowOpacity = 0.5;

Here is a screenshot of the shadow being applied to the top lightest grey layer. Hopefully this gives an idea of how my content will overlap if `clipsToBounds` is OFF.

I have a view controller hierarchy and the top-most controller is displayed as a modal and would like to know how to display the navigation bar when using 

    &#39;UIViewController:presentViewController:viewControllerToPresent:animated:completion&#39;

The docs for &#39;presentViewController:animated:completion:&#39; note: 

&gt; &#39;On iPhone and iPod touch, the presented view is always full screen.
&gt; On iPad, the presentation depends on the value in the
&gt; modalPresentationStyle property.&#39;

For &#39;modalPresentationStyle&#39;, the docs say:
&gt; The presentation style determines how a modally presented view controller is displayed onscreen. On iPhone and iPod touch, modal view controllers are always presented full-screen, but on iPad there are several different presentation options. 

Is there way to ensure that the navigation bar is visible below the status bar once the view control displays itself? Should I interpret the doc as, you don&#39;t get any options of iPhone/iPod and only on iPad?

Previously, I was using `&#39;UIViewController:presentModalViewController:animated&#39;` which worked fine, but since iOS 5.0, the API has been deprecated so I&#39;m switching over to the new one.

Visually, what I&#39;m looking to do is have the new controller slide in from the bottom of the screen, just like the old API used to do.

While writing a web application, it makes sense to store (server side) _all_ datetimes in the DB as UTC timestamps.

I was astonished when I noticed that you couldn&#39;t natively do much in terms of Timezone manipulation in JavaScript.

I extended the Date object a little. Does this function make sense? Basically, every time I send anything to the server, it&#39;s going to be a timestamp formatted with this function...

Can you see any major problems here? Or maybe a solution from a different angle?

First, I have googled for a how-to on creating a &#39;Go Back&#39; link that allows the user to return to the previous page, and these are two ways of doing it:

That&#39;s one half of the question. Now if mine is the first page the user is visiting, the &#39;Go Back&#39; link wouldn&#39;t work, right? (As there&#39;s no pre-existing history for the window or tab.) In that case, I want the link to fallback and take the user to http://example.com.

i.e. if history exists, the user is taken to the previous page, and if it doesn&#39;t he&#39;s taken to http://example.com.

How do I do that? Hope someone can help.

I&#39;m depending heavily on localStorage for a plugin I&#39;m writing. All the user settings are stored in it. Some settings require the user the write regex&#39;es and they would be sad if their regex rules are gone at some point. 
So now I am wondering just how persistent the localStorage is.

From [the specs][1]:

The above looks like it works just like cookies on the clientside. I.e. when the user clears all browser data (history, cookies, cache etc) the localStorage will also be truncated. Is this assumption correct?

Is it possible to Pre-size an image using the new local storage (or whatever), so that a user who does not have a clue about resizing an image can drag their 10mb image into my website, it resize it using the new localstorage and THEN upload it at the smaller size.

I know full well you can do it with Flash, Java applets, active X... The question is if you can do with Javascript + Html5.

HTML5 Pre-resize images before uploading

I need to clear all data i set into `localStorage`. By this, I mean completely reset `localStorage` to `null` when users remove their accounts.

How can i do that with a simple function?

I tried this: 

    function clearLocalStorage(){
        return localStorage= null;
    }

But it doesn&#39;t work as expected.

I&#39;ve been using [Sinon.JS][1] for most of my other javascript mocking and have found it is really great.

My initial testing shows that localStorage refuses to be assignable in firefox (sadface) so I&#39;ll probably need some sort of hack around this :/

My options as of now (as I see) are as follows:

1. Create wrapping functions that all my code uses and mock those
2. Create some sort of (might be complicated) state management (snapshot localStorage before test, in cleanup restore snapshot) for localStorage.
3. `??????`

What do you think of these approaches and do you think there are any other better ways to go about this?  Either way I&#39;ll put the resulting &quot;library&quot; that I end up making on github for open source goodness.
