I&#39;ve found out that the height of a UITabBar is 49px (or 50px, depending on the source).

Because I don&#39;t like to use too much hard-coded values in my code I was wondering if it is possible to retrieve the height of the tabbar programmatically.

PS: The reason I&#39;m asking is because I have a view controller (with a list view containing text fields) that is either simply pushed by the navigationcontroller (pushViewController) or presented as a modal (presentModalViewController). As soon as the keyboard show up, the size of the view is reduced, but I have to take into account that the tabbar is only visible when the view controller is pushed and not presented as a modal.

I have built my app using new Xcode 9 beta for ios 11. I have found an issue with UITabBar where items are spread through the UITabBar and title is right aligned to the image. I have tried changing the code to get it to work but still not successful.

I could change the position of title using `tabBarItem.titlePositionAdjustment`
But that is not my requirement as it should automatically come bellow the image itself. I tried setting `tabbar.itemPositioning to UITabBarItemPositioningCentered` and also tried changing `itemSpacing` and `width`, but still did not work. Can someone help me understand why this happens and how to fix this? I want it to like ios 10+ version and images are taken from the left most corner of an iPad.

I want to change my tab bar items to be pink when selected instead of the default blue.

How can i accomplish this using the storyboard editor in Xcode 6?

Anyone having issue with the iPhone X simulator around the UITabBar component?

Mine seem to be rendering the icons and title on top of each other, I&#39;m not sure if I&#39;m missing anything, I also ran it in the iPhone 8 simulator, and one actual devices where it looks fine just as shown on the story board.

iOS 11 iPhone X simulator UITabBar icons and titles being rendered on top covering eachother

I&#39;m switching tabs programmatically in a tab bar driven application using `UITabBarController.selectedIndex`. The problem I&#39;m trying to solve is how to animate the transition between the views. ie. from the view of the current tab to the view of the selected tab.

The first thought was to make use of the `UITabBarControllerDelegate`, but it appears that this is not called when programmatically switching tabs. I&#39;m now considering the `UITabBarDelegate.didSelectItem`: as a possible hook to set a transition animation.

Has anyone managed to animate the transitions?
 If yes, how ?

iPhone: How to switch tabs with an animation?

Normally on each tab of a `UITabBar` you have a small image and a title naming the tab. The image is positioned/centred towards the top of the tab to accommodate the title underneath. My question is: *if you want to have a tabBar with just an image and no title is there a way to move the image down so it centers better within the tab?*

I am using (see below) currently:

    [tabBarItem setFinishedSelectedImage:tabSelected withFinishedUnselectedImage:tabUnselected];

but would prefer to use to larger image with no title, at the moment if I make the image bigger than about 70pixels@2x it starts edging off the top of the `UITabBar` whilst leaving a lot of unused space at the bottom.

Moving UITabBarItem Image down?

I have icons for a tabBar of size 100.

I checked [at Apple&#39;s Human Interface Guidelines of 2013](https://web.archive.org/web/20130631121714/http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html) and it says the image size should be `30x30` / `60x60`.

But as the height of tab bar controller is 50, I kept the size of the image at `50x50`.

Now, when I run the project, I see the ugly design below:

Any idea what size images I should use so that the design will be perfect?

**Note:** I am not writing text also (e.g. Home, Search, etc). The text of the tab button is there in the image itself.

What size should TabBar images be?

The UINavigationBar and UISearchBar both have a tintColor property that allows you to change the tint color (surprising, I know) of both of those items.  I want to do the same thing to the UITabBar in my application, but have found now way to change it from the default black color.  Any ideas?

Changing Tint / Background color of UITabBar

The following image shows the program being run and the &quot;NEWS&quot; item selected:

It is clear the bar tint color is working fine as I want !

But the tintColor only affects the image and not the text.

Also, when the an item is selected (as seen above, news) the item color goes blue! How do I prevent this from happening? I want it to stay white.

Why is the text changing to a white color when selected but not when it is unselected?

I basically want the item color and text color to be white all the time.

How do I achieve this? Thanks for any help.

Does it require swift code for each individual item?

Changing tab bar item image and text color iOS

I use `UITabBarController` as a root view and app supports iOS 6 and above. Project class hierarchy is as below.

    UITabBarController
      - tab1
        - UINavigationController
          - UIViewController
          - UIViewController
          .
          .
      - tab2
        - UINavigationController
          - UIViewController
          - UIViewController
          .

      - tab3
        - UIViewController
      - tab4
        - UIViewController

I used below code to change height of `UITabBar` in one of the UIViewControllers (which is inside `UINavigationController`) in above hierarchy.

    CGRect tabbarFrame = self.tabBarController.tabBar.frame;
    tabbarFrame.size.height += 60;
    self.tabBarController.tabBar.frame = tabbarFrame;

But its not changing the height. `UITabBar` is displayed with default height. Though logging its value prints changed value as shown below.

Change UITabBar height

`tabBar.barTintColor` can&#39;t be changed in iOS 15 beta 4.

**Background**. We have an app in App Store and each year before the new iOS major version releases we download the iOS beta and test our app to fix the issues beforehand.

**Our problem**. This year when testing in iOS 15 beta 4 we found the UITabBarController&#39;s tabBar background color turns black and makes the item (both icon and title) hard to read. In our code we had self.tabBar.barTintColor = .white and this line of code doesn&#39;t work in iOS 15.

**Our attempts**. I search online and found a similar, not exactly the same, issue reported, https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/682420. And I tried `standardAppearance` but this is not the solution since with `appearance` I can&#39;t change `tabBar.tintColor`.

I am currently adding images to each one of my tab bar items. One image I like has a size that is much bigger then the area of the bar item. When I set the image of the bar item in the storyboard and run the emulator... the bar button with that image covers the entire screen.

Now I thought there was some automatic way of allowing the images to resize for each bar button. This is sadly not the case. Is there a way when the tab bar loads that I can resize the images within each tab bar?

I have an UITabBar with 5 items. I want to change the unselected color of all items. The items aren&#39;t declared in the UIViewController classes (i built them and linked the views in the Storyboard).

Is there an code like this : `[[UITabBar appearance] set***UN***SelectedImageTintColor:[UIColor whiteColor]];` ?


Unselected UITabBar color?

So I have a button that is connected to a IBAction. When I press the button I want to hide the tab bar in my iOS app with a animation. This `[self setTabBarHidden:hidden animated:NO];`  or this `[self.tabBarController setTabBarHidden:hidden animated:YES];` does not work. This is my code without the animation:

    }

How to hide tab bar with animation in iOS?

I have a root view controller which isn’t set as the custom class for any of my view controllers on my storyboard. Instead, all of my view controllers are subclassing this class like so.

But I seem to be struggling with doing something when a tabbaritem is pressed on the view controller which is subclassing the rootviewcontroller, i.e, the message is not being printed.

Detect when a tab bar item is pressed

I have an iOS app with `UITabBarController` on a master screen, navigating to a detail screen hiding the `UITabBarController` with setting `hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = true`.

When going back to the master screen the `UITabBarController` does a strange &quot;jump&quot; as shown on this GIF:

This happens **only on iOS 12.1**, not on 12.0 or 11.x.

Seems like an iOS 12.1 bug, because I noticed other apps like FB Messenger with this behavior, but I was wondering, is there some kind of workaround for it?

UITabBar items jumping on back navigation on iOS 12.1

I&#39;m writing an app that uses `UITabBar` for parts of the navigation. I&#39;m also using `UIScrollView` for presenting more information than what the screen can typically handle. Because of this, I&#39;m needing to set the scroll view to take into account the height of the `UITabBar` so that all of the information is displayed.

Is there a way to calculate the `height` of the `UITabBar`?

I am trying to get desired color rendered in the background of Tab Bar however I am facing problems. 
These are the things that I tried :-
 
1. Changing the background color of tab bar object from storyboard. The color rendered is always lighter than the desired color.

2. Programmatically  changing the color of the tab bar using the following code inside `viewDidLoad()` method

            self.tabBar.translucent = false
            self.tabBar.backgroundColor = UIColor(hexString: &quot;323B61&quot;)

    It doesn&#39;t change the color. Instead , the color rendered is white.
