In case you don&#39;t know [Project Lombok][1] helps with some of the annoyances of Java with stuff like [generating getters and setters with annotations][2] and even [simple JavaBean like generation with @Data][3]. It could really help me, especially in 50 different event objects where you have up to 7 different fields that need to be constructed and hidden with getters. I could remove almost a thousand lines of code with this.

However, I&#39;m worried that in the long run, it will be a regretful decision. Flamewars will erupt in the `##Java Freenode` channel when I mention it, providing code snippets will confuse possible helpers, [people will complain about missing JavaDoc][4], and future commiters might just remove it all anyway. I would really enjoy the positive, but I&#39;m worried about the negative. 

So: Is it safe to use Lombok on any project, small or large? Are the positive effects worth the negatives?

Is it safe to use Project Lombok?

I want to use a data class in Lombok. Since it has about a dozen fields, I annotated it with `@Data` in order to generate all the setters and getter. However there is one special field for which I don&#39;t want to  the accessors to be implemented.

How does Lombok omit this field?


Omitting one Setter/Getter in Lombok

I&#39;m trying to use [Lombok][1] in my project that I&#39;m developing using IntelliJ IDEA 11.

I&#39;ve installed [3rd-party plugin for IDEA][2] and it seems working fine because IDEA sees all autogenerated methods/fields.

So I have a class that uses Slf4j. I annotated it like this

But when I build my project compiler spits: `cannot find symbol variable log`.

**Update:** It turned out it&#39;s RequestFactory annotation process that fails.

    cannot find symbol variable log

Any ideas on workarounds?

**Update2:** Perhaps it&#39;s not something readers want to hear but I ended up switching to [Scala][3].

Can&#39;t compile project when I&#39;m using Lombok under IntelliJ IDEA

 1. I&#39;ve installed the plugin for intellij idea(lombok-plugin-0.8.6-13).
 2. Added lombok.jar into classpath
 3. I can find getters and setters in the window of structure. And Intellij shows no error.
 4. Setting - Lombok plugin - Verified Intellij configuration for lombok, it shows that &quot;configuration of IntelliJ seems to be ok&quot;.

It seems everything is OK. But when I compile a test, errors come: can not find the methods getXXX and setXXX.

I opened the .class file with IntelliJ and find out that there is no setXXX and getXXX methods.

Could somebody tell me why?

Lombok annotations do not compile under Intellij idea

I am using IntelliJ IDEA on ubuntu. I added *lombok.jar* into my project and installed the Lombok plugin for IDEA. I have access to the annotations but the `getters` and `setters` aren&#39;t generated. I get the same errors I would get if I tried accessing a getter or setter method that doesn&#39;t exist. What could I be missing?

How does lombok work?

Lets say I have a lombok annotated class like

    @Builder
    class Band {
       String name;
       String type;
    }

I know I can do:

    Band rollingStones = Band.builder().name(&quot;Rolling Stones&quot;).type(&quot;Rock Band&quot;).build();

Is there an easy way to create an object of Foo using the existing object as a template and changing one of it&#39;s properties? 

Something like:

    Band nirvana = Band.builder(rollingStones).name(&quot;Nirvana&quot;);

I can&#39;t find this in the lombok documentation.

lombok is throwing error saying it cant find A() constructor, explicitly call it what i want lombok to do is to give annotation to class b such that  it generates the following code:

I have a maven project that builds with no problems from the command line. However, when I build it with IntelliJ, I get the error:

	java: FileName.java:89: cannot find symbol
	symbol  : variable log

There is no log defined or imported in the java file, but there is a

    @Slf4j
    final public class FileName {

statement before the class body which should define the log class.

In the project structure window, classes for:

    Maven: org.slf4j:jcl-over-slf4j:1.6.1
    Maven: org.slf4j:slf4j-api:1.6.6
    Maven: org.slf4j:slf4j-log4j12:1.6.6
    Maven: org.slf4j:slf4j-simple:1.6.6

are listed under libraries and are indicated as having been downloaded and available.

Any idea why this would build with maven through the command line, but not through IntelliJ and how to resolve the issue?

 - Initially, I faced issues when I removed getters and setters and added `@Getter` and `@Setter` annotation, `mapstruct` is not able to find the property and says: `Unknown property &quot;id&quot; in result type com.vg.once.dto.OneDto. Did you mean &quot;null&quot;?`
 - I came to know that Lombok 1.16.14 or newer along with MapStruct 1.2.0.Beta1 or newer are compatible and can work together, but my versions are newer then the desired still the issue is arising.
 - One more solution that I have already tried is running Lombok&#39;s Delombok plugin, but still, the same issue is arising.

please share how can i get this working using both Lombok and MapStruct together?

MapStruct and Lombok not working together

I just tried to send a Maven-based project to another computer and HORROR,
red markers everywhere!!

However, `mvn clean install` is building just fine.

Quickly, I noticed that Lombok is not generating getters and setters for my classes, although the `@Getter` and `@Setter` are being correctly recognised by Eclipse.

Both computers use the same Maven version (3.0.4) but different JDKs (1.6_23 and 1.6_33). They both use Eclipse Indigo 32 bit. Do you have an idea about how to solve the problem?

Lombok is not generating getter and setter

If I specify *@AllArgsConstructor* using **Lombok**, it will generate a constructor for setting all the declared (not final, not static) fields. 
Is it possible to omit some field and this leave generated constructor for all other fields?

I have a entity which inherits from other. On other hand, I&#39;m using lombok project to reduce boilerplate code, so I put `@Data` annotation. The annotation `@Data` with inheritance produces the next warning:

I am compiling it with Netbeans (I don&#39;t think that this is really relevant, but I am reporting this anyway to make it perfectly and faithfully reproducible). I already tried about randomly poking with the `@Value` and `@AllArgsConstructor` annotations, but I couldn&#39;t make it any better.

I google&#39;d the exception and [found an old bug report on jackson](https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson-datatype-jdk8/issues/16), and [another one that is open, but seems to be related to something else](https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson-databind/issues/1239). However, this still do not tells anything about what is this bug or how to fix it. Also, I could not find anything useful looking that somewhere else.

Since what I am trying to do is very basic usage of both lombok and jackson, it seems odd that I couldn&#39;t find any more useful information about how to workaround this issue. Maybe I missed something?

After doing some searching online, I found out that this error is related to an issue in OpenJDK 15 but I am currently using OpenJDK 16, hence why I am confused that I am still getting this error.

This thread claims to have a solution: https://github.com/rzwitserloot/lombok/issues/2681#issuecomment-748616687 but after implementing the plugin, it does not seem to make any difference and I still receive the error.

I have most likely made a trivial mistake since I am a beginner but if someone knows what I am missing please let me know.

I&#39;m using project Lombok together with Spring Data JPA.
Is there any way to connect Lombok `@Builder` with JPA default constructor?

As far as I know JPA needs default constructor which is overriden by `@Builder` annotation. Is there any workaround for that?

When it tries to compile code (in IntelliJ or Gradle) that references Lombok based POJOs it gives the error &quot;Cannot access &#39;foo&#39;: it is &#39;private&#39; in &quot;MyPojo&quot;. Which is true, they&#39;re all private and my object has @Value @Builder for lombok annotations.

I&#39;ve tried specifically calling getFoo(), but it says &quot;unresolved reference for getFoo&quot;. There&#39;s perhaps some trick to make Kotlin aware of how to handle the lombok annotations?

   One of my POJOs has a Boolean object field to permit NULLS in the database (a requirement). Is it possible to use the @Data Lombok annotation at class level yet override the getter for the Boolean field? The default it generates is getXXX method for the Boolean field. I wish to override it as isXXX()?

Cannot make Project Lombok work on Eclipse

I have the lombok plugin setup in IntelliJ and my code builds fine. I can see the lombok generated methods in the structure view. What I want is some way to actually see the source lombok generates for each of the methods. I realize I can delombok the file but I&#39;m wondering if there is some way I can flip a switch to show or hide the lombok generated code.

I have a Gradle-based project that uses lombok. I have imported this project into IntelliJ IDEA 14.1 (using the _Import External Model_ import method). I can run the JUnit4 unit tests without problem in Gradle, but IntelliJ seems to have a problem seeing the Lombok generated Getters. This is preventing me from running the tests in IDEA. 

To make sure it wasn&#39;t a set up issue, I created a [Very simple project][1] and confirmed that the same issue occurs in the simple test project.


My versions:
Gradle: gradle-2.3-all via Gradle wrapper&lt;br/&gt;
Intellij IDEA: IU-141.713&lt;br/&gt;
Lombok Plugin: 0.9.2

What am I missing here?

IntelliJ IDEA cannot see Lombok generated code

I have following dependency in pom.xml:

When I run `mvn clean install`, I have following error:

    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.tools.javac.code.TypeTags
        at java.lang.ClassLoader.findClass (ClassLoader.java:711)
        at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass (ClassLoader.java:566)
        at lombok.launch.ShadowClassLoader.loadClass (ShadowClassLoader.java:418)

I tried to use java `1.8, 1.9, 1.10`. And I tried lombok `1.6.10, 1.6.12, 1.6.20`. All of them have the same problem.

I recently found out that the lombok.jar ends up in our final artifact, which shouldn&#39;t be necessary. In my understanding lombok is compile-time only.

I have two classes `Child` extends `Parent`. I need to put @Builder annotation on the classes such that I do not need to create the builder my self.

But so far I am getting the errors mentioned in side that code comments. Can any one point me to the right direction how to achieve it with lombok or any other similar library ?

Lombok plugin incompatible with 2018.1 Intellij Idea

Simply upgrading one of my projects from Java-15 to 16 (using the latest build [here](https://jdk.java.net/16/)). On compiling the project which uses lombok such as:

Lombok&#39;s access to jdk.compiler&#39;s internal packages incompatible with Java-16

My android project builds fine with lombok 1.16.0, but once I change my dependency to target 1.16.2, I get the following error everywhere I&#39;m using a lombok annotation: 

`Error:(20, 1) error: package javax.annotation does not exist`

The Android SDK does not include all javax packages. What I&#39;m wondering is if this is a bug in 1.16.2 or do I now have to add a dependency to `javax.annotation`?

I have a custom setter in my Lombok-based POJO:

but when I use the Lombok generated builder:

my custom setter is not invoked, and so the password is not encoded. This makes me sad. 

My custom setter is, of course, invoked when I use it directly:

    public void changePassword(String password, User user) {
        user.setPassword(password);
    }

What can I do to have Lombok&#39;s builder use my custom setter?

Lombok problems with Eclipse Oxygen

I&#39;m trying to add Lombok to my Spring Boot project in IntelliJ IDEA. So far, I&#39;ve

1. added the plugin under __Settings__ - __Plugins__ (version 0.13.16)

2. added `compile(&#39;org.projectlombok:lombok&#39;)` to my Gradle dependencies

3. enabled annotation processing

It still doesn&#39;t recognize either the Lombok import or the annotations.

What am I missing?

I love project [Lombok](https://projectlombok.org/) but in these days I&#39;m reading and trying some of the new features of java 14.

Inside the new capability, there is the [record](https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/359) keyword that allows creating a class with already built-in the following functionality: constructor, private final fields, accessors, equals/hashCode, getters, toString methods.

Now my question is: is better to rely on the feature of Lombok or should we start using the record functionality:

Is better to use this:

record Person (String name, String surname) {}
```

or that:

```java
@AllArgsConstructor
@ToString
@EqualsAndHashCode
public class Person {
  @Getter private int name;
  @Getter private int surname;
}
```

What are the pros and cons of the both approach?

`@Value` is a Lombok annotation which generates a constructor. Which means that this class doesn&#39;t have a no-arg constructor.

I used Spring Boot 1.4.3.RELEASE and `ObjectMapper` bean was able to deserialize such object from JSON.

After the upgrade to Spring Boot 2.0.0.M7 I receive following exception:

`com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.exc.InvalidDefinitionException: Cannot construct instance of PracticeResults (no Creators, like default construct, exist): cannot deserialize from Object value (no delegate- or property-based Creator)`

Jackson version used in Spring Boot 1.4.3 is `2.8.10` and for Spring Boot 2.0.0.M7 is `2.9.2`.

I&#39;ve tried to Google this problem but found only solutions with `@JsonCreator` or `@JsonProperty`.

So, why does it work with Spring Boot 1.4.3 and fails with Spring Boot 2? Is it possible to configure bean to behave the same way as the older version?

ObjectMapper can&#39;t deserialize without default constructor after upgrade to Spring Boot 2

I have the following class:

    @Builder @NoArgsConstructor
    public class ConsultationPointOfContact {
        private String fullName;
        private String phoneNumber;
        private String userLogin;   
    }

When the `@Builder` annotation exists, it is causing problems with the `@NoArgsConstructor`.

I am getting the error:

    Error:(11, 1) java: constructor ConsultationPointOfContact in class models.ConsultationPointOfContact cannot be applied to given types;
      required: no arguments
      found: java.lang.String,java.lang.String,java.lang.String
      reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length
