Ok so I can use an OrderedDict in `json.dump`. That is, an OrderedDict can be used as an input to JSON.

But can it be used as an output? If so how? In my case I&#39;d like to `load` into an OrderedDict so I can keep the order of the keys in the file.

If not, is there some kind of workaround?

I was having a discussion with a teammate about locking in .NET.  He&#39;s a really bright guy with an extensive background in both lower-level and higher-level programming, but his experience with lower level programming far exceeds mine.  Anyway, He argued that .NET locking should be avoided on critical systems expected to be under heavy-load if at all possible in order to avoid the admittedly small possibility of a &quot;zombie thread&quot; crashing a system.  I routinely use locking and I didn&#39;t know what a &quot;zombie thread&quot; was, so I asked.  The impression I got from his explanation is that a zombie thread is a thread that has terminated but somehow still holds onto some resources.  An example he gave of how a zombie thread could break a system was a thread begins some procedure after locking on some object, and then is at some point terminated before the lock can be released.  This situation has the potential to crash the system, because eventually, attempts to execute that method will result in the threads all waiting for access to an object that will never be returned, because the thread that is using the locked object is dead.  

I think I got the gist of this, but if I&#39;m off base, please let me know.  The concept made sense to me.  I wasn&#39;t completely convinced that this was a real scenario that could happen in .NET.  I&#39;ve never previously heard of &quot;zombies&quot;, but I do recognize that programmers who have worked in depth at lower levels tend to have a deeper understanding of computing fundamentals (like threading).  I definitely do see the value in locking, however, and I have seen many world class programmers leverage locking.  I also have limited ability to evaluate this for myself because I know that the `lock(obj)` statement is really just syntactic sugar for:

So, I&#39;m hoping I can get some feedback on this here:

1.  Is there a clearer definition of a &quot;zombie thread&quot; than what I&#39;ve explained here?
2.  Can zombie threads occur on .NET?  (Why/Why not?)  
3.  If applicable, How could I force the creation of a zombie thread in .NET?
4.  If applicable, How can I leverage locking without risking a zombie thread scenario in .NET?

As soon as I trigger the `load()` method (in Firefox, mind you), the video player dies.

Now I have found out that when I don&#39;t use multiple `&lt;source&gt;` tags, but instead just one `src` attribute within the `&lt;video&gt;` tag, the whole thing *does* work in Firefox.

So my plan is to just use that `src` attribute and determine the appropriate file using the &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/video.html#dom-navigator-canplaytype&quot;&gt;canPlayType()&lt;/a&gt; function.

Are there any libraries for in-browser javascript that provide the same flexibility/modularity/ease of use as Node&#39;s `require`?

To provide more detail: the reason `require` is so good is that it:

1.  Allows code to be dynamically loaded from other locations (which is stylistically better, in my opinion, than linking all your code in the HTML)
2.  It provides a consistent interface for building modules
3.  It is easy for modules to depend on other modules (so I could write, for instance, an API that requires jQuery so I can use `jQuery.ajax()`
4.  Loaded javascript is _scoped_, meaning I could load with `var dsp = require(&quot;dsp.js&quot;);` and I would be able to access `dsp.FFT`, which wouldn&#39;t interfere with my local `var FFT`

I have yet to find a library that does this effectively.  The workarounds I tend to use are:

-  [coffeescript-concat][1] -- it&#39;s easy enough to require other js, but you have to compile it, which means it is less great for fast development (e.g. building APIs in-test)

-  [RequireJS][2] -- It&#39;s popular, straightforward, and solves 1-3, but lack of scoping is a real deal-breaker (I believe [head.js][3] is similar in that it lacks scoping, though I&#39;ve never had any occasion to use it.  Similarly, [LABjs][4] can load and `.wait()` does mollify dependency issues, but it still doesn&#39;t do scoping)

As far as I can tell, there appear to be many solutions for dynamic and/or async loading of javascript, but they tend to have the same scoping issues as just loading the js from HTML.  More than anything else, I would like a way to load javascript that does not pollute the global namespace at all, but still allows me to load and use libraries (just as node&#39;s require does).

__2020 UPDATE:__ [Modules][7] are now standard in ES6, and as of mid-2020 are natively supported by [most browsers][8]. Modules support both synchronous and asynchronous (using Promise) loading. My current recommendation is that most new projects should use ES6 modules, and use a transpiler to fall back to a single JS file for legacy browsers.

As a general principle, bandwidth today is also typically much wider than when I originally asked this question. So in practice, you might reasonably chose to always use a transpiler with ES6 modules, and focus your effort on code efficiency rather than network.

__PREVIOUS EDIT (or if you don&#39;t like ES6 modules):__ Since writing this, I have extensively used [RequireJS][5] (which now has much clearer documentation). RequireJS really was the right choice in my opinion. I&#39;d like to clarify how the system works for people who are as confused as I was:

You can use `require` in everyday development. A module can be anything returned by a function (typically an object or a function) and is scoped as a parameter. You can also compile your project into a single file for deployment using `r.js` (in practice this is almost always faster, even though `require` can load scripts in parallel).

The primary difference between RequireJS and node-style require like browserify (a cool project suggested by tjameson) uses is the way modules are designed and required:

- RequireJS uses AMD (Async Module Definition). In AMD, `require` takes a list of modules (javascript files) to load and a callback function. When it has loaded each of the modules, it calls the callback with each module as a parameter to the callback. Thus it&#39;s truly asynchronous and therefore well-suited to the web.
- Node uses CommonJS. In CommonJS, `require` is a blocking call that loads a module and returns it as an object. This works fine for Node because files are read off the filesystem, which is fast enough, but works poorly on the web because loading files synchronously can take much longer.

In practice, many developers have used Node (and therefore CommonJS) before they ever see AMD. In addition, many libraries/modules are written for CommonJS (by adding things to an `exports` object) rather than for AMD (by returning the module from the `define` function). Therefore, lots of Node-turned-web developers want to use CommonJS libraries on the web. This is possible, since loading from a `&lt;script&gt;` tag is blocking. Solutions like browserify take CommonJS (Node) modules and wrap them up so you can include them with script tags.

Therefore, if you are developing your own multi-file project for the web, I strongly recommend RequireJS, since it is truly a module system for the web (though in fair disclosure, I find AMD much more natural than CommonJS). Recently, the distinction has become less important, since RequireJS now allows you to essentially use CommonJS syntax. Additionally, RequireJS can be used to load AMD modules in Node (though I prefer [node-amd-loader][6]).

Node-style require for in-browser javascript?

I&#39;m making an Ajax call which returns me some info including an image path.

I prepare all this information in my HTML which will be displayed as a kind of popup. I just toggle the visibility of by popup div from hidden to visible.

To set the position of my popup div, I have to calculate depending on the height of the image. So, I have to wait for the image to load to know its dimension before setting position and switching visibility to visible.

I tried tricks with recursion, setTimeout, complete img property, while loop... without success.

So, how can I do this? Maybe I should return dimensions in my Ajax call.

I am trying to make a webpage that, when it starts loading, uses an Interval to start a timer.

When the page fully loads, it stops the timer,

but 99% of the time i get time measurements of 0.00 or 0.01 even if it takes longer.

Occasionally, it says something that makes more sense like .28 or 3.10 at some times.

Here is the code if it helps:

So it basically creates a variable called hundredthstimer which is increased by &#39;1&#39; every 10 miliseconds(.01 seconds).

Then, if this number reaches 1000(1 full second), a variable called secondsplace goes up by 1, since that is how many full seconds it has run for.

Then, it alerts secondsplace, a decimal point, and hundredthsplace as the total load time.


But the problem above with incorrect numbers still exists. Why?

I am trying to make a Java tool that will scan the structure of a Java application and provide some meaningful information.   To do this, I need to be able to scan all of the .class files from the project location (JAR/WAR or just a folder) and use reflection to read about their methods.   This is proving to be near impossible.

I can find a lot of solutions based on URLClassloader that allow me to load specific classes from a directory/archive, but none that will allow me to load classes without having any information about the class name or package structure.

EDIT:
I think I phrased this poorly.  My issue is not that I can&#39;t get all of the class files, I can do that with recursion etc. and locate them properly.  My issue is obtaining a Class object for each class file.   

How to load Classes at runtime from a folder or JAR?

I am trying to do a very simple task here, I would like to be able to click a button on a page and have it take me to another page. I have tried window.location.href, and a bunch of other things and it does nothing. I have tried different platforms and different browsers, all with the same result. 

I know that it can call a function but I just cannot get the new page to load. Also this is all in my local file system and both pages live at the same level (but I have also tried to load an external page like www.apple.com).

Any thoughts?

JavaScript load a page on button click

What happened is that I (by mistake) saved a dictionary with the command `numpy.save()` (no error messages shown) and now I need to recover the data in the dictionary. When I load it with `numpy.load()` it has type (`numpy.ndarray`) and is 0-d, so it is not a dictionary any more and I can&#39;t access the data in it, 0-d arrays are not index-able so doing something like 

    mydict = numpy.load(&#39;mydict&#39;)
    mydict[0][&#39;some_key&#39;] 

doesn&#39;t work. I also tried

    recdict = dict(mydict)

but that didn&#39;t work either.

Why numpy didn&#39;t warn me when I saved the dictionary with `numpy.save()`?

Is there a way to recover the data?

Is there an easy way in C# to read a properties file that has each property on a separate line followed by an equals sign and the value, such as the following:

In Java, the Properties class handles this parsing easily:

I can easily load the file in C# and parse each line, but is there a built in way to easily get a property without having to parse out the key name and equals sign myself?  The C# information I have found seems to always favor XML, but this is an existing file that I don&#39;t control and I would prefer to keep it in the existing format as it will require more time to get another team to change it to XML than parsing the existing file.

Shortly, I have an `NSDictionary` with urls for images that I need to show in my `UITableView`. Each cell has a title and an image. I had successfully made this happen, although the scrolling was lagging, as it seemed like the cells downloaded their image every time they came into the screen.
I searched for a bit, and found `SDWebImage` on github. This made the scroll-lagg go away. I am not completely sure what it did, but I believed it did some caching. 
But! Every time I open the app for the first time, I see NO images, and I have to scroll down, and back up for them to arrive. And if I exit the app with home-button, and open again, then it seemes like the caching is working, because the images on the screen are visible, however, if I scroll one cell down, then the next cell has no image. Until i scroll past it and back up, or if I click on it. Is this how caching is supposed to work? Or what is the best way to cache images downloaded from the web? The images are being updated rarily, so I was close to just import them to the project, but I like to have the possibility to update images without uploading an update..

Is it impossible to load all the images for the whole tableview form the cache(given that there is something in the cache) at launch? Is that why I sometimes see cells without images?

And yes, I&#39;m having a hard time understanding what cache is.

I tried this with only images of the same size (500x150), and the aspect-error is gone, however when I scroll up or down, there are images on all cells, but at first they are wrong. After the cell has been in the view for some milliseconds, the right image appears. This is amazingly annoying, but maybe how it has to be?.. It seemes like it chooses the wrong index from the cache at first. If I scroll slow, then I can see the images blink from wrong image to the correct one. If I scroll fast, then I believe the wrong images are visible at all times, but I can&#39;t tell due to the fast scrolling. When the fast scrolling slows down and eventually stops, the wrong images still appear, but immediately after it stops scrolling, it updates to the right images. I also have a custom `UITableViewCell` class, but I haven&#39;t made any big changes.. I haven&#39;t gone through my code very much yet, but I can&#39;t think of what may be wrong.. Maybe I have something in the wrong order.. I have programmed much in java, c#, php etc, but I&#39;m having a hard time understanding Objective-c, with all the `.h` and `.m` ...
