I have a simple setter method for a property and `null` is not appropriate for this particular property. I have always been torn in this situation: should I throw an [`IllegalArgumentException`][1], or a [`NullPointerException`][2]? From the javadocs, both seem appropriate. Is there some kind of an understood standard?  Or is this just one of those things that you should do whatever you prefer and both are really correct?

IllegalArgumentException or NullPointerException for a null parameter?

I have an application with three tabs.

Each tab has its own layout .xml file. The main.xml has its own map fragment. It&#39;s the one that shows up when the application first launches.

Everything works fine except for when I change between tabs. If I try to switch back to the map fragment tab, I get this error. Switching to and between other tabs works just fine.

What could be wrong here?

I&#39;ve just upgraded my app to use the newly released v22.1.0 AppCompat and I&#39;m now getting the following exception when I open my app.

`feed_parser_activity` is a Fragment that is set to Fragment layout in xml.  
I am using a FragmentActivity to host the Fragment Layout holding the `feed_parser_layout`.  
Am I coding this correctly above?


Android Fragment no view found for ID?

I am getting below stack trace when I am deploying my application in a multi-server Apache Tomcat 8 environment. I am getting this error frequently, and it seems it is blocking the tomcat thread:

Can any one direct me how to troubleshoot or narrow down such an exeption? I am not getting any reference to any of my application source files. I tried to google around, and in of the links it said, you are trying to access http url through https, which seems unlikely. I am not getting this error, when the application runs on a single Tomcat 8 instance. I get this only in a multi-server environment.

Receiver not registered exception error?

I&#39;m worried that this is a runtime exception so it should probably be used sparingly.  
Standard use case:

    void setPercentage(int pct) {

But that seems like it would force the following design:

To get it back to being a checked exception.

Okay, but let&#39;s go with that.  If you give bad input, you get a runtime error.  So firstly that&#39;s actually a fairly difficult policy to implement uniformly, because you could have to do the very opposite conversion:

And worse - while checking `0 &lt;= pct &amp;&amp; pct &lt;= 100` the client code could be expected to do statically, this is not so for more advanced data such as an email address, or worse, something that has to be checked against a database, therefore in general client code cannot pre-validate.

So basically what I&#39;m saying is I don&#39;t see a meaningful consistent policy for the use of `IllegalArgumentException`.  It seems it should not be used and we should stick to our own checked exceptions.  What is a good use case to throw this?

Android 5.0 (L) Service Intent must be explicit in Google analytics

I have a ListView with some focusable components inside (mostly `EditText`s). Yeah, I know this isn&#39;t exactly recommended, but in general, almost everything is working fine and the focus goes where it has to go (with a few tweaks I had to code). Anyway, my problem is that there&#39;s a weird race condition when scrolling the list with your finger and then suddenly using the trackball *when the IME keyboard is being displayed*. Something must go out of bounds and get recycled at which point the `offsetRectBetweenParentAndChild()` method must kick in and throw the `IllegalArgumentException`. 

The problem is that this exception is thrown outside of any block in which I can insert a try/catch (as far as I know). So there are two valid solutions to this question, either: 

 1. Someone knows *why* this exception being thrown and how to stop it from happening
 2. Someone knows how to put a try/catch block somewhere that will at least let my application survive. As far as I know the problem is that of focus, so it definitely shouldn&#39;t kill my application (which is what it&#39;s doing). I tried overriding the `ViewGroup`&#39;s methods but those two `offset*` methods are marked as final.
