I&#39;ve used [Jakarta commons HttpClient](http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/index.html) in another project and I would like the same [wire logging](http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/logging.html) output but using the &quot;standard&quot; HttpUrlConnection.

I&#39;ve used [Fiddler](http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/) as a proxy but I would like to log the traffic directly from java.

Capturing what goes by the connection input and output streams is not enough because the HTTP headers are written and consumed by the HttpUrlConnection class, so I will not be able to log the headers.





How to enable wire logging for a java HttpURLConnection traffic?

I am trying to do **POST** with `HttpURLConnection`(I need to use it this way, can&#39;t use `HttpPost`) and I&#39;d like to add parameters to that connection such as

    post.setEntity(new UrlEncodedFormEntity(nvp));

where

    nvp = new ArrayList&lt;NameValuePair&gt;();

having some data stored in. I can&#39;t find a way how to add this `ArrayList` to my `HttpURLConnection` which is here:

    HttpsURLConnection https = (HttpsURLConnection) url.openConnection();
    https.setHostnameVerifier(DO_NOT_VERIFY);
    http = https;
    http.setRequestMethod(&quot;POST&quot;);

The reason for that awkward https and http combination is the need for *not verifying* the certificate. That is not a problem, though, it posts the server well. But I need it to post with arguments.

If so, how would I construct the `InputStreamEntity` for my bitmap? I would find it revolting to be required to first store the bitmap in a file on the device.

Sending files using POST with HttpURLConnection

I have problem with retrieving Json response in case when server returns error. See details below.


### How I perform the request

I use `java.net.HttpURLConnection`. I setup request properties, then I do:

    conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();

After that, when request is successful, I get response Json:

###... and the problem is:

I can&#39;t retrieve Json received when the server returns some error like 50x or 40x,. Following line throws IOException:

The server sends body for sure, I see it in external tool Burp Suite:

How to get response body using HttpURLConnection, when code other than 2xx is returned?

I am trying to send a post request to a url using HttpURLConnection (for using cUrl in java). 
The content of the request is xml and at the end point, the application processes the xml and stores a record to the database and then sends back a response in form of xml string. The app is hosted on apache-tomcat locally. 

When I execute this code from the terminal, a row gets added to the db as expected. But an exception is thrown as follows while getting the InputStream from the connection

Its confusing because the exception is traced to the line `InputStream response = con.getInputStream();` and there doesn&#39;t seem to be any file involved for a FileNotFoundException. 

When I try to open a connection to an xml file directly, it doesn&#39;t throw this exception.

The service app uses spring framework and Jaxb2Marshaller to create the response xml.

Well it saves the data in the DB and sends back a 404 response status code at the same time.

I also tried doing a curl using php and print out the `CURLINFO_HTTP_CODE` which turns out to be 200. 

Any ideas on how do I go about debugging this ? Both service and client are on the local server.

I could solve the problem after referring to an [answer][2] on SO itself. 

It seems HttpURLConnection always returns 404 response when connecting to a url with a non standard port. 

Adding these lines solved it

Use of [`java.net.URLConnection`][1] is asked about pretty often here, and the [Oracle tutorial][2] is *too* concise about it.

That tutorial basically only shows how to fire a [GET][3] request and read the response. It doesn&#39;t explain anywhere how to use it to, among others, perform a [POST][4] request, set request headers, read response headers, deal with cookies, submit a HTML form, upload a file, etc.

How to use java.net.URLConnection to fire and handle HTTP requests

In Java, this code throws an exception when the HTTP result is 404 range:

Getting java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connection timed out in android

I am having problems downloading a binary file (video) in my app from the internet. In Quicktime, If I download it directly it works fine but through my app somehow it get&#39;s messed up (even though they look exactly the same in a text editor). Here is a example:

I am doing basic http auth with the `HttpURLConnection` object in Java.

I am successfully using this code to send  `HTTP` requests with some parameters via `GET` method

I was thinking to add an extra parameter to that method (i.e. String httpMethod).

How can I change the code above as little as possible to be able to send paramters either via `GET` or `POST`?

I was hoping that changing

    connection.setRequestMethod(&quot;GET&quot;);

to

    connection.setRequestMethod(&quot;POST&quot;);

would have done the trick, but the parameters are still sent via GET method.

Has `HttpURLConnection` got any method that would help?
Is there any helpful Java construct?

Java - sending HTTP parameters via POST method easily

With `OkHttp` library, application is facing following `SocketTimeoutException` issue. If request size is less, then it is working fine(Less than 1MB). I am getting this exception within 10 seconds, even my socket timeout(`readTimeout`) value is much higher. It is consistently failing for a request(Size is 1.8MB). When I executed a request with `HttpUrlConnection` it is working fine. What could be a possible reason of failure?
