Basically, what I&#39;m trying to do is click on a button that becomes visible when hovering another element (its parent).

I have tried to use `trigger.(&#39;mouseover&#39;)` on the parent of the hidden button, but that doesn&#39;t seem to work.

Here&#39;s a code snippet from the spec:

I&#39;m using FactoryGirl to create the data, and as the test passes without JS, I know that part is working. 

I&#39;ve tried with the default JS driver, and with the :webkit driver (with capybara-webkit installed)

I guess I don&#39;t understand enough what turning on JS for Capybara is doing.

I have a field with a proper label that I can fill in with capybara without a problem:

    fill_in &#39;Your name&#39;, with: &#39;John&#39;

I&#39;d like to check the value it has before filling it in and can&#39;t figure it out.

If I add after the `fill_in` the following line:

    find_field(&#39;Your name&#39;).should have_content(&#39;John&#39;)

That test fails, although the filling just before worked as I&#39;ve verified by saving the page.

I want to select by number (meaning select the second, third, etc option).

I&#39;ve Googled like crazy trying all sorts of things but no luck.

I can&#39;t get capybara working with rspec. It gives me this error:

However, assuming that page has for instance only one matching element, the error is not very descriptive:

      1) initial page load shows greetings

     expected css &quot;ol li&quot; to return something

Instead of this rather obscure error message, is there a way to write the assertion in such way that error output would be something like &#39;When matching &#39;ol li&#39;, expected: 2, found: 1&#39;. Obviously I could make a custom logic myself for such a behaviour - I&#39;m asking is there a way to do this &#39;out of the box&#39;?

Error installing gem capybara-webkit

After loading a page I have code that runs and hides and shows various items based on data returned by an xhr.

My integration test looks something like this:

    it &quot;should not show the blah&quot; do
        page.find(&#39;#blah&#39;).visible?.should be_true
    end 

When I manually go to the page in the context this test runs, #blah is *not* visible as I expect. I suspect that Capybara is looking at the initial state of the page (invisible in this case), evaluating the state of the DOM and failing the test before the JS runs. 

Yes, I set the `:js =&gt; true` on the containing describe block :)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I&#39;m hoping I don&#39;t have to put an intentional delay in here, that feels flaky and will slow things down.

How to make Capybara check for visibility after some JS has run?

Perhaps this isn&#39;t actually the issue I&#39;m experiencing, but it seems that when I &quot;click_link&quot; a link with target=&quot;_blank&quot;, the session keeps the focus on the current window.

So I either want to be able to switch to the new window, or to ignore the _blank attribute - essentially, I just want it to actually go to the page indicated by the link so I can make sure it&#39;s the right page.

I use the webkit and selenium drivers.

I can do this within poltergeist by:

I have the following helper method to input a string into an input field and press the enter key, but it seems the enter key is never pressed.  I see the string entered into the input field, but the events that take place upon hitting enter never happened.

I am needing to stub the response of a `current_user` method in an Rspec/capybara request spec. The method is defined in `ApplicationController` and is using helper_method. The method should simply return a user id. Within the test, I&#39;d like this method to return the same user id each time. 

Alternatively, I could fix my problem by setting `session[:user_id]` in the spec (which is what `current_user` returns)... but that doesn&#39;t seem to work either. 

Are either of these possible?

Get select value of dropdown for capybara testing

I&#39;ve already found that when I want to set value to text field, text area or password field, I can use id, name or label as `something` in `fill_in something, :with =&gt; some_value`.  However such approach fails when I try to set value to `&lt;input type=&quot;hidden&quot;&gt;` field (and I want to do it because those are normally filled client-side scripts which I test separately).  How could I set such a hidden field with Capybara?  Is it possible?
