I would imagine this is a multiple part situation with regex, but how would you split a camelcase string at the capital letters turning them in to lowercase letters, and then adding a hyphen between each new string?

For example:

I remember when I was using Eclipse that when holding CTRL and using left or right arrows Eclipse would navigate over the `LongCamelCaseWrittenWord` in several steps. One camel case word at time.

So it will go like follows (pipe `|` represents the actual cursor position):

I was thinking about just splitting by `-` then convert the index of that hypen +1 to uppercase. But it seems pretty dirty and was hoping for some help with regex that could make the code cleaner.

Convert hyphens to camel case (camelCase)

I&#39;m using [GSON][1] to convert JSON data I get to a Java object. It works pretty well in all my tests.
The problem is that our real objects have some properties named like is_online. GSON only maps them if they are named totally equal, it would be nice to have GSON convert the names to Java camel case isOnline.

It seems this is possible while creating the JSON data, camel case is converted to underscore separated words in JSON. But I can&#39;t find a way to specify this the other way round.

I found a [brilliant RegEx][1] to extract the part of a camelCase or TitleCase expression.

It works as expected:

In other words, given n uppercase chars:

- if the n chars are followed by lower case chars, the groups should be: (n-1 chars) / (n-th char + lower chars)
- if the n chars are at the end, the group should be: (n chars).

Any idea on how to improve this regex?

RegEx to split camelCase or TitleCase (advanced)

I have a string that I converted to a TextInfo.ToTitleCase and removed the underscores and joined the string together.  Now I need to change the first and only the first character in the string to lower case and for some reason, I can not figure out how to accomplish it.  Thanks in advance for the help.

In summary you could say the solution by @kalefranz does not match the question (see the last case) and the solution by @casimir et hippolyte eats a single space, and thereby violates the idea that a split should not change the individual parts. The only difference among the remaining two alternatives is that my solution returns a list with the empty string on an empty string input and the solution by @200_success returns an empty list.
I don&#39;t know how the python community stands on that issue, so I say: I am fine with either one. And since 200_success&#39;s solution is simpler, I accepted it as the correct answer.

How to do CamelCase split in python

This has been bothering me for a while, and I can&#39;t arrive at a solution that feels &lt;i&gt;right&lt;/i&gt;...

Given an OO language in which the usual naming convention for object properties is camelCased, and an example object like this:

    {

How should I model this structure in a PostgreSQL table?

There are three main options:

1. unquoted camelCase column names
2. quoted camelCase column names
3. unquoted (lowercase) names with underscores

They each have their drawbacks:

1. Unquoted identifiers automatically fold to lowercase. This means that you can create a table with a `canPlayPiano` column, but the mixed case never reaches the database. When you inspect the table, the column will always show up as `canplaypiano` - in psql, pgadmin, explain results, error messages, everything.

2. Quoted identifiers keep their case, but once you create them like that, you will *always* have to quote them. IOW, if you create a table with a `&quot;canPlayPiano&quot;` column, a `SELECT canPlayPiano ...` will fail. This adds a lot of unnecessary noise to all SQL statements.

3. Lowercase names with underscores are unambiguous, but they don&#39;t map well to the names that the application language is using. You will have to remember to use different names for storage (`can_play_piano`) and for code (`canPlayPiano`). It also prevents certain types of code automation, where properties and DB columns need to be named the same.

So I&#39;m caught between a rock and a hard place (and a large stone; there are three options). Whatever I do, some part is going to feel awkward. For the last 10 years or so, I&#39;ve been using option 3, but I keep hoping there would be a better solution.

I&#39;m grateful for any advice you might have.



PS: I do realize where the case folding and the need for quotes is coming from - the SQL standard, or rather PostgreSQL&#39;s adaptation of the standard. I know how it works; I&#39;m more interested in advice about best practices than explanations about how PG handles identifiers.

Elegant Python function to convert CamelCase to snake_case?

I have a large JavaScript file with multiple eslint rule violations. I am trying to disable them and address them one at a time. The code below shows that I can disable them all with no trouble, but not the rule about camelcase and perhaps other individual rules. The approaches I have used should work according to the   eslint documentation, but there must be a flaw in my interpretation.

The code is short and it does not eliminate the error concerning camel case.

Just get the same camelcase error without any change.  The eslint documentation says just disable the entire rule  but does not specify a method other than listed above.

But what if you need to write the acronym? Something like:

Is it right to write it this way? `getUnescoProperties()` OR `getUNESCOProperties();`
