I want to set the map view zoomed to 1km radius but cant figure out how?

The doc says that the zoom level 1 will map earths equator to 256 pixels. So how do I calculate which zoom level I need to set so that the map view shows area in 1KM radius?

After reading a few blog posts I wrote the following code:

The idea is that first I calculate **Meters per pixel** in the zoom level 1, which according to google shows equator of earth using 256 pixels. Now every subsequent zoom level magnifies by a level of 2 so I half the meters per pixel for every zoom level. I do this until I have a zoom level where **meters per pixel** multiplied by the **screen width** gives me less than 2000 i.e 2 Km across.

But I dont think that the zoom level I am getting is showing the map of 2Km radius. Can some one tell me what I am doing wrong here?

I have one of the new [`MapFragment`](https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android/reference/com/google/android/gms/maps/MapFragment)s in a `ScrollView`. Actually it&#39;s a `SupportMapFragment`, but anyway. It works, but there are two problems:

1. When scrolled, it leaves a black mask behind. The black covers exactly the area where the map was, except for a hole where the +/- zoom buttons were. See screenshot below. This is on Android 4.0.

2. The view doesn&#39;t use `requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent()` when the user interacts with the map to prevent the `ScrollView` intercepting touches, so if you try to pan vertically in the map, it just scrolls the containing `ScrollView`. I could theoretically derive a view class `MapView` and add that functionality, but how can I get `MapFragment` to use my customised `MapView` instead of the standard one?

hard-coding the setZoom() within onCreate() feels very antiquated and I&#39;d like to enhance the user experience by initially having the MapView set the zoom until all GeoPoints / OverlayItems are visible on the map.

How can this be done auto-magically?

Using the old version of the Google Maps Android API, I was able to capture a screenshot of the google map to share via social media.  I used the following code to capture the screenshot and save the image to a file and it worked great:

However, the new GoogleMap object used by V2 of the api does not have a &quot;getRootView()&quot; method like MapView does.

		View v1 = mapFragment.getView();

But the screenshot that I get does not have any map content and looks like this:

I also tried to get the rootView this way:

    View v1 = getWindow().getDecorView().getRootView();

This results in a screenshot that includes the action bar at the top of the screen, but the map is still blank like the screenshot I attached.

Capture screen shot of GoogleMap Android API V2

I am not sure whether I should be using `MapView` or stick to using a `MapFragment`. My application is an app that finds the nearest set of places that are closest to you. I want to be able to add locations, display details of a marker when I press a marker and when the user moves along the map I want to be able to get the coordinates of the center of the map and display the nearest locations within a defined radius. Would I be at a disadvantage if I continue to use `MapFragments` or should I switch over to `MapView` while I still have the chance?

I&#39;ve been busy for a long time finding out how to draw a line between two (GPS) points on the map in HelloMapView but with no luck.

Could anyone please tell me how to do so.

Suppose I use the HelloMapView which extends MapView. Do I need to use overlays? If so do I have to override the onDraw() method of the overlay and draw a line here? I actually tried these things but with no result.

Drawing a line/path on Google Maps

I am using google Maps in my android application. I have created the key and added necessary permissions in manifest file. But soon I start the application I get this message in debugger:

&gt; GoogleService failed to initialize, status: 10, Missing an expected

I am not sure whats wrong. The Map is working fine and I can use it without any issues. My gradle file has this entry:

This app won&#39;t run unless you update Google Play Services (via Bazaar)

I have a slider that can be pulled up and then it shows a map. I can move the slider up and down to hide or show the map. When the map is on front, I can handle touch events on that map. Everytime I touch, a `AsyncTask` is fired up, it downloads some data and makes a `Toast` that displays the data. Although I start the task on touch event no toast is displayed, not till I close the slider. When the slider is closed and the map is not displayed anymore the `Toast` appears.

Any ideas?

In new `TestTask(this)`, this is a reference to `MapOverlay` and not to `MapActivity`, so this was the problem.

When I&#39;m loading this file to standard web google map it displays it nicely but when I&#39;m trying the same thing with android google map it doesn&#39;t do that. It just takes me to some locations and that&#39;s it. I was thinking of changing listener class. Currently it looks like that:

How to draw a path on a map using kml file?

I&#39;m making use of the new [Android Google Maps API][1]. 

I create an activity which includes a MapFragment. In the activity `onResume` I set the markers into the GoogleMap object and then define a bounding box for the map which includes all of the markers.

This is using the following pseudo code:

       builder.include(latlng);

If - instead of the `newLatLngBounds()` factory method I use `newLatLngZoom()` method then the same trap does not occur.

Is the `onResume` the best place to draw the markers onto the GoogleMap object or should I be drawing the markers and setting the camera position somewhere else?

moveCamera with CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngBounds crashes

The only method that removes markers from map is clear. However it clears all markers from the map.

I want to remove only single marker or group of markers.

Has anyone managed to use `ItemizedOverlays` in Android Beta 0.9? I can&#39;t get it to work, but I&#39;m not sure if I&#39;ve done something wrong or if this functionality isn&#39;t yet available. 

I&#39;ve been trying to use the `ItemizedOverlay` and `OverlayItem` classes. Their intended purpose is to simulate map markers (as seen in Google Maps Mashups) but I&#39;ve had problems getting them to appear on the map.

I can add my own custom overlays using a similar technique, it&#39;s just the `ItemizedOverlays` that don&#39;t work.

Once I&#39;ve implemented my own `ItemizedOverlay` (and overridden `createItem`), creating a new instance of my class seems to work (I can extract `OverlayItems` from it) but adding it to a map&#39;s `Overlay` list doesn&#39;t make it appear as it should.

This is the code I use to add the `ItemizedOverlay` class as an `Overlay` on to my `MapView`.
