I add an image to the LinearLayout via code at runtime like so

	            ImageView image = new ImageView(this);

However, I want to add the ImageView between the 2 TextViews in my LinearLayout. I can&#39;t seem to find a way in the android docs to add a view before another view, or after. How can I do this? 

**NB** I call

I&#39;m creating a custom widget by extending `LinearLayout`:

I can add children just fine, but I&#39;m never getting my custom `onDraw()` being called. `dispatchDraw()` gets called, but that seems to have a different canvas (the one that&#39;s within the padding. I need to draw on the whole layout area). Is there some flag that needs to get set to get `onDraw()` called for the layout?

Custom Widget using LinearLayout not getting onDraw()

I have a `LinearLayout` (oriented horizontally) that contains 3 buttons. I want the 3 buttons to have a fixed width and be evenly distributed across the width of the `LinearLayout`.

I can manage this by setting the gravity of the `LinearLayout` to center and then adjusting the padding of the buttons, but this works for a fixed width and won&#39;t work for different devices or orientations.

**Problem:** as you can see, the expected behavior would be to have the empty `TextView` above to appear centered on the screen. On the design preview in Eclipse, it is OK. Only when added to `root_view` as a fragment the `FrameLayout` won&#39;t fill the whole screen.

`root_container` is blue, and `FrameLayout` is yellowish, see below for debug purposes. ***Shouldn&#39;t the yellow pane fill the whole screen?!?!?!?***

Android Fragment does not respect match_parent as height

I always read about this funny weight value in the Android documentations. 
Now I want to try it for the first time but it isn&#39;t working at all. 

As I understand it from the documentations this layout:

should create two buttons that are horizontally aligned and share the space equally. The problem is the two buttons don&#39;t grow to fill the space. 

I would like the buttons to grow and fill the whole line. If both buttons are set to match parent only the first button is shown and fills the whole line.

I am having trouble applying a gradient background to a LinearLayout.

Android LinearLayout Gradient Background

I have lot of items on the screen and I need to use the scrollbar so the user can scroll down. However, the scroll is either not visible or it&#39;s not working. How is it possible to add a scrollbar to a `LinearLayout`?

How do I use a compound drawable instead of a LinearLayout that contains an ImageView and a TextView

I&#39;m trying to center an `ImageView` inside a `LinearLayout` horizontally and vertically, but I just can&#39;t do it.
The main reason why I&#39;m not using a `RelativeLayout` for that is because I need the `layout_weight` (my `Activity` consists of four columns that should be equally divided, and also responsive to different screen widths, each column having an `ImageView` centered and unstretched).

How to center the content inside a linear layout?

I am confused about the difference between LinearLayout, RelativeLayout, and AbsoluteLayout.

I want them to cover 75% of the button area. But where as some images cover less area, some are too big to fit into the imageButton. How to programatically resize and show them?

Android LinearLayout : Add border with shadow around a LinearLayout

As part of an Android App I am building a button set. The buttons are part of a nested set of LinearLayouts. Using weight I have the set resizing itself automatically based on the size of the containing parent LinearLayout. The idea is, based on the pixel count and density of the screen, to set the size of the containing layout to a number of pixels; and have the button set resize itself based on that change.

The question then is: How to resize the layout. 

I have tried several suggested techniques, and none come close to working. Here is a subset of the XML that builds the button set:

The two questions are: 1) how do I get access to numberPadLayout from Java. And once I have access to the view, 2) how do I change the height and width of the layout.

I am trying to add `TextViews` to my xml-defined layout in code.
I have a xml-sheet, where a lot of `Views` are defined. But I have to add some views in code, so a create a `LinearLayout` in the xml-sheet:

I&#39;ve always been using RelativeLayout everytime I needed a View container, because of it&#39;s flexibility, even if I just wanted to display something really simple.

Is it ok to do so, or should I try using a LinearLayout when I can, from a performance/good practices standpoint?

It seems like the xml is correct but the text is aligned to the left. The textview takes up the entire width of the parent and the textview is set to be centered. Not sure what the problem is...

I was wondering if is possible to group each single `RadioButton` in a unique `RadioGroup`
maintaining the same structure. My structure look like this:

I&#39;ve got a custom LinearLayout with a smaller TextView child. I&#39;d like to be able to click the area not covered by the TextView, so I set clickable=true and an onclicklistener to the LinearLayout, but onClick is not triggered. Android empty Linear layout contents

I have the following code working which generates fragments, but only if I am adding them to a linear layout which exists in my XML file.

    LinearLayout fragmentsLayout = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.foodItemActvity_linearLayout_fragments);
	FragmentManager fragMan = getFragmentManager();
	FragmentTransaction fragTransaction = fragMan.beginTransaction();
	
    Fragment myFrag= new ImageFragment();
    fragTransaction.add(R.id.foodItemActvity_linearLayout_fragments, myFrag , &quot;fragment&quot; + fragCount);
    fragTransaction.commit();

Now what if I want to add that fragment to a linear layout that does not already exist in the XML file such as

    LinearLayout rowLayout = new LinearLayout();

        Fragment frag1 = generateAppropriateFragment(type1);
		Fragment frag2 = generateAppropriateFragment(type2);

        LinearLayout fragmentsLayout = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.foodItemActvity_linearLayout_fragments);

How to add a fragment to a programmatically generated layout?

How do I set the maximum width of a ViewGroup? I am using a `Theme.Dialog` activity, however, this does not look so good when resized to bigger screens, it&#39;s also sort of lightweight and I don&#39;t want it taking up the whole screen.

I tried [this suggestion](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3702000/max-width-of-linearlayout) to no avail. Also, there is no `android:maxWidth` property like some views.

Is there a way to restrict the root LinearLayout so that it is only (for example) 640 dip? I am willing to change to another ViewGroup for this.

Any suggestions?
