This is a general step that happens when m2e/m2eclipse (Maven integration for Eclipse) is installed, whether projects are actively using it or not.

This step can be disabled through the Eclipse preferences:  Window / Preferences / Maven / &quot;Download repository index updates on startup&quot;.  This option is on the main &quot;Maven&quot; preference page (not a child page).  Just uncheck the box to prevent this from happening.

The file that this is downloading is an index of all the available dependencies available in the Maven central repository for use in Maven-enabled projects, allowing them to be easily chosen and searched against within the Eclipse UI.  It is mainly a user convenience, and isn&#39;t mandatory.

When I load up a workspace (for Android Java development), Eclipse says in the status bar that it's updating indexes. The Progress tab reports that it's hitting maven.org.

I&#39;m new to Java and Android development and try to create a simple app which should contact a web server and add some data to a database using a http get.

When I do the call using the web browser in my computer it works just fine. However, when I do the call running the app in the Android emulator no data is added. 

I have added Internet permission to the app&#39;s manifest. Logcat does not report any problems.

Can anyone help me to figure out what&#39;s wrong?

I am using `NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(myLocale)` to get a custom currency format for a locale given by me. However, this always includes the currency symbol which I don&#39;t want, I just want the proper currency number format for my given locale without the currency symbol. 

Doing a `format.setCurrencySymbol(null)` throws an exception..

The [Android Documentation says][1] that there is two sizes for a view, the *measured dimensions* and the *drawing dimensions*. The measured dimension is the one computed in the *measure pass* (the [onMeasure][2] method), while the *drawing dimensions* are the actual size on screen. Particularly, the documentation says that:

&gt; These values may, but do not have to, be different from the measured width and height.

So, my question is: what could make the drawing dimension be different of the measured dimension? If the [onMeasure(int,int)][3] method respects the layout requirements (given as the parameters *widthMeasureSpec* and *heightMeasureSpec*, how could the SDK decides that the view should have a different drawing size?

Additionally, how/where in the [Android Source Code][4] the measured width/height is used to compute the drawing width/height? I tryed to look into the [View source code][5], but I can&#39;t figure out how the measuredWidth/Height is used to compute the final width/height. Maybe it has something to do with the padding, but I&#39;m not sure.

I am building a small Android app where the user will enter an IP address or a hostname into an `EditText` widget.  90% of the time they will be entering an IP address, the rest of the time - a hostname.

So naturally, I want to make it easy for them to enter an IP address, but the ability to switch to alpha numerics for hostname entry is important.

I can&#39;t seem to find a good inputType.  The `numberDecimal` initially seemed like a good shot, but it only allows one dot.  

Ideally, I&#39;d like to start with a standard keyboard that had the `?123` button pressed.

How do I get there?

I got a new computer recently and copied all of my projects over to my new computer.

I opened Eclipse and generated a workspace, which I then closed out of Eclipse and copied my projects into the workspace/projects folder.

I reopen Eclipse and my projects do not show up at all in the package explorer.

I know that I have the correct folders in the correct directory.

For some odd reason, I can&#39;t use breakpoints in my eclipse project. All breakpoints that I set have a diagonal line on them, above the dot in the respective line (on the left margin of the window), as if they are blocked. When I run in debug mode, the breakpoints are ignored. Any ideas?

I am developing a web application with Eclipse and I generate the project with a maven archetype.

When I enable maven dependency management, Eclipse mark some errors in the pom file, this error is:

You can specify in your maven [settings][1] file that you want to run in offline mode, but is there an equivalent command line option? 

I would imagine something like e.g.

    mvn install -Dmaven.offline.true

I am starting to configure my development environment and I am using Spring Tool Suite 2.8.1 along with m2E 1.01.

As far as I can tell, since this is a Maven Project (my first), my Maven POM is dictating (along with m2E smarts) my project build configuration and dependencies.

What I would like to know is why my IDE is displaying Java Build Problems that read &quot;Archive required for library *library/path/somejar.jar* cannot be read or is not a valid zip file&quot; when I can see the jars in my .m2 repository?

All the errors pertained to commons-logging:1.1.1 which I excluded in my parent-pom. This was a transistive dependancy via spring-context-support:3.0.5. I excluded that library from my build and now the errors pertain to the spring-context-support library.

i was wondering if it&#39;s possible to configure run as maven install in eclipse to skip unit tests, if such thing is doable, then please tell me how to do it, thanks in advance.

How to configure maven install to skip tests in eclipse?

I use m2e 1.2.0 and m2e-wtp 0.16.0, and occasionally my Eclipse build fails with the error: 

    &lt;path&gt;/target/m2e-wtp/web-resources/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF (No such file or directory)

The problem can be temporarily solved by doing a `Maven-&gt;Update project...`, but the error will come back after a while. Not sure what exactly the trigger is.... 

Any suggestions on how to fix the issue permanently?

[Edit] I found that the issue is triggered when I build the project externally using the Maven command line directly. This will remove the default MANIFEST.MF that m2e-wtp generates, and it apparently doesn&#39;t get regenerated until you do a rebuild in Eclipse.

After running into a plethora of issues, the decision was made to uninstall Eclipse Indigo 3.6.2 and install Indigo 3.7 (as per the standards of the company I currently work at). After taking this course of action, all issues with installations (maven and otherwise) were resolved.

I am seeing an error in my STS and am not sure how to debug it. Searching around I only see vague references to the error and no solutions.

The error is:

I&#39;ve tried several refreshes and updates of the project and associated projects including clearing my local m2 repo.
