In IE11, you can see local storage in console on dev tools:

 1. Show dev tools (press &lt;kbd&gt;F12&lt;/kbd&gt;)
 2. Click &quot;Console&quot; or press &lt;kbd&gt;Ctrl&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;2&lt;/kbd&gt;
 3. Type `localStorage` and press &lt;kbd&gt;Enter&lt;/kbd&gt;

Also, if you need to clear the localStorage, type `localStorage.clear()` on console.

Since localStorage is a global object, you can add a watch in the dev tools. Just enter the dev tools, goto &quot;watch&quot;, click on &quot;Click to add...&quot; and type in &quot;localStorage&quot;.

Edge (as opposed to IE11) has a better UI for Local storage / Session storage and cookies:

 - Open Dev tools (F12)
 - Go to Debugger tab
 - Click the folder icon to show a list of resources - opens in a separate tab

I did a &quot;git rm -rf .&quot; (trying to purge the cache of files I had removed after doing &quot;git add .&quot;) without thinking git would physically delete the files. I don&#39;t have an initial commit/branch yet.

I remember to add my &quot;.gitignore&quot;. Then, out of being lazy and also not bothering to look up the proper command I did:

Now every file that git was tracking is gone. Oops.

Recover dangling blobs in Git


I know that this sort of goes against the principles of a relational database but let me describe the situation.

I have a page where the user will place a number of items.

     ________________

These  items have must stay in a the order the user gives them. However this order may be changed an arbitrary number of times by the user.


     ________________

    | -Item4         |
    | -Item2         |
    | -Item3         |
    |________________|

**Approach 1**

My original thought was to give the items an index to represent thier place in the list

    Page           Item
    -----------    ---------------
    FK | pid       FK | pid 
       | name      PK | iid 
                      | index
                      | content 

With this solution you can select items `where pid = Page.pid` and `order by index` which is convenient. However every time you change the order you have to change anywhere between one other item (best case) and all the other items (worst case).

**Approach 2**

I also considered making a &quot;linked list&quot; like data structure where each item points to the next item in the list. 

    Page           Item
    -----------    ---------------
    FK | pid       FK | pid 
       | name      PK | iid 
                      | next
                      | content 

This potentially makes changing the order less expensive but we would have to rely on front end programming to extract the order. 


Is there an approach that I haven&#39;t thought of? Please let me know.

I&#39;ve seen `div` tags use a `clearfix` class when it&#39;s child `divs` use the `float` property. The clearfix class looks like this:

        display: inline-block;
    }

I found that if I don&#39;t use `clearfix` when I use the `bottom-border` property, the border would show above the child `divs`. Can someone explain what the clearfix class does? Also, why are there two `display` properties? That seems very strange to me. I am especially curious about what the `content:&#39;.&#39;` means.

I have a textarea which is contained in a div as I have jquery hint and wanted to use opacity without changing the border.

I&#39;ve read conflicting information regarding Internet Explorer&#39;s silly CSS limits. I am (think I am) understanding that you can only have 31 `&lt;style&gt;` and `&lt;link&gt;` tags (combined), and that each sheet can have up to 31 `@import`-s (so 31 `&lt;link&gt;`-s, each to 31 `@import`-s is fine, albeit insane).

However, the 4095 rule is less clear - is this 4095 rules per document, or per sheet? For instance, can I `&lt;link&gt;` to two stylesheets, each with 4000 rules, and have it work, or will this break the limit?

Internet Explorer&#39;s CSS rules limits

I&#39;m using Javascript&#39;s `self.open()` to open a link in a new window and i&#39;d like that window to be maximized. I tried the `fullscreen=yes` option, which really doesn&#39;t do what I want. I am using below code:

    self.open(pageLoc,popUpName,&#39;height=1600,width=1800,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,toolbar=yes,menubar=yes,location=yes&#39;); 
    
If i also mention `fullscreen=yes`, then window opens up like you press F11. But i don&#39;t want it that. What i want is when i double click on **IE** and click maximize icon on top right corner.

As i have given the `height` and `width` value so large, it is close to maximized window but not actual maximized window. (the reason i am saying this because
    even now if i click maximize button, it further expans little bit)

I am testing a highly-customized web application in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8, since it is an up and coming release, and will likely be using my application some day. Take a look at this sample screenshot of some text input controls from the application:

Is there a way, either within HTML or CSS, to remove the action icons that are located to the right of the text and password input controls?

I want to bounce users of our web site to an error page if they&#39;re using a version of `Internet Explorer` prior to v9. It&#39;s just not worth our time and money to support `IE pre-v9`. Users of all other non-IE browsers are fine and shouldn&#39;t be bounced. Here&#39;s the proposed code:

To head off a few comments that will probably be coming my way:

 1. Yes, I know that users can forge their `useragent` string. I&#39;m not concerned.
 2. Yes, I know that programming pros prefer sniffing out feature-support instead of browser-type but I don&#39;t feel this approach makes sense in this case. I already know that all (relevant) non-IE browsers support the features that I need and that all `pre-v9 IE` browsers don&#39;t. Checking feature by feature throughout the site would be a waste.
 3. Yes, I know that someone trying to access the site using `IE v1` (or &gt;= 20) wouldn&#39;t get &#39;badBrowser&#39; set to true and the warning page wouldn&#39;t be displayed properly. That&#39;s a risk we&#39;re willing to take.
 4. Yes, I know that Microsoft has &quot;conditional comments&quot; that can be used for precise browser version detection. IE no longer supports conditional comments as of `IE 10`, rendering this approach absolutely useless.

Any other obvious issues to be aware of?

I read some documentation on sessionStorage and localStorage, but I don&#39;t understand what the scope is: the domain, a specific page?

For example, if I have the following pages:

And if on each of the above pages I run (with idvalue being the value in the querystring):

    localStorage.setItem(&#39;ID&#39;,idvalue);

Am I going to end up with 3 different values stored, or are the values going to overwrite each other?

How to delete a localStorage item when the browser window/tab is closed?

I&#39;m depending heavily on localStorage for a plugin I&#39;m writing. All the user settings are stored in it. Some settings require the user the write regex&#39;es and they would be sad if their regex rules are gone at some point. 
So now I am wondering just how persistent the localStorage is.

From [the specs][1]:

&gt; User agents should expire data from the local storage areas only for security reasons or when requested to do so by the user.

The above looks like it works just like cookies on the clientside. I.e. when the user clears all browser data (history, cookies, cache etc) the localStorage will also be truncated. Is this assumption correct?

**Bearing in mind we have HTML5 local storage and xhr v2 and what not. I was wondering if anyone could find a working example or even just give me a yes or no for this question:**

Is it possible to Pre-size an image using the new local storage (or whatever), so that a user who does not have a clue about resizing an image can drag their 10mb image into my website, it resize it using the new localstorage and THEN upload it at the smaller size.

I know full well you can do it with Flash, Java applets, active X... The question is if you can do with Javascript + Html5.

Looking forward to the response on this one.

I need to clear all data i set into `localStorage`. By this, I mean completely reset `localStorage` to `null` when users remove their accounts.

How can i do that with a simple function?

I tried this:
