This probably only covers part of the differences, it would be helpful to actually look at the Android Source tree to see exactly what&#39;s going on.

ImageButtons has push states, where as a clickable image does not.
You also can&#39;t call setText for ImageButton, you can with a regular button.

They all derive from view, but looking at the following extends chain may help a little.


    java.lang.Object
    ↳ android.view.View
 	   ↳ android.widget.ImageView
 	 	   ↳ android.widget.ImageButton

versus

    java.lang.Object
    ↳ android.view.View
 	   ↳ android.widget.TextView
 	 	   ↳ android.widget.Button


The differences can be subtle. The most direct way to understanding this is to start with looking at the docs. If you look at the [docs for Button][1] you can see that `Button` is derived from `TextView`. [`ImageButton`][2] on the other hand is derived from `ImageView`. So fundamentally, a `Button` can have text and is clickable, whereas an `ImageButton` is a bit more flexible in how you set the image. It has methods from its `ImageView` base class like `setImageURI` which a `Button` does not. One of the differences between these two and just a plain `ImageView` is that you can have button states which is explained in both of the `Button` and `ImageButton` docs.

One other aspect not mentioned in the previous answers is the usage within (for instance) a list item view. If you an embed a Button or ImageButton, the rest of the list item will not receive touch events. But if you use ImageView, it will.

The problem seems pretty straightforward: argh is only accepting the first argument, and treating it as a string.  How do I make it &quot;expect&quot; a list of integers instead?

I see [how this is done in optparse][1], but what about the (not-deprecated) argparse?  Or using argh&#39;s much nicer decorated syntax?  These seem much more pythonic.

I have written a couple layout files where I used the `layout_weight` attribute to create a ratio between different views.

At some point, I start getting lint warnings about nested weights. 

So, I wonder why are nested weights bad for performance, and if there is a more efficient way to create a constant ratio between view dimensions that could be used for different screen sizes and that doesn&#39;t need to specify a lot of dimension dpi values throught several layout files (for different screen sizes, I mean).

I thought the top-most level in Android is called `Activity`, which is the screen you see.

Can someone tell me what a Window in Android is? do we just have one or multiple of them.

This was asked a long time ago where I wasn&#39;t familiar with Java, now that I&#39;m better with it, I &#39;ll do a quick summary:**

The point of async task is that the task is `asynchronous`, meaning that after you call `execute()` on the task, the task starts running on a thread of its own. returning a value from asynctask would be pointless because the original calling thread has already carried on doing other stuff (thus the task is asynchronous). 

Think of time:
At one point of time, you started a task that will run in parallel with the main thread. When the parallel-running task completed, time has also elapsed on the main thread. The parallel task cannot go back in time to return a value to the main thread.

I was coming from C so I didn&#39;t know much about this. But it seems that lots of people are having the same question so I thought I would clear it up a bit.

I have a HTML form where I use several buttons. The problem is that no matter which button I  click, the form will get submitted even if the button is not of type &quot;submit&quot;. e.g. Buttons like :`&lt;button&gt;Click to do something&lt;/button&gt;`, result in form submission.

It&#39;s quite painful to do an `e.preventDefault()` for each one of these buttons.

Disable form auto submit on button click

I am developing an application that when the button is pressed, it opens a dialog with OK and Cancel buttons.

It works fine.

When the user presses the back button, I am handling this as follows

Changing button text onclick

I have a page with tens or hundreds of posts, each one with social buttons.
I just can&#39;t generate all the buttons for each url: it is too slow (facebook, g+, twitter, pinterest... for hundreds of links). So, instead of the facebook share button to be generated on the fly, I use a simple img pointing to

When the user clicks on it, a popup window opens with content generated by facebook.

How can I do it for Pinterest? I only find around code to generate the button, but I would like to avoid js at all if possible. Is there something like the following?

I have trouble with a `ListView`. Its items (rows) have an `ImageButton`.
The `ImageButton` has `android:onClick` set, so this `onClick` event is working, but click on row doesn&#39;t work. 

If I remove the `ImageButton` from the row item, click on row works (`ListView` has correct `onClick` listener). How can I fix it? 
I need `onClick` event when the user clicks on the `ImageButton`, and the standard click event when the user selects the row (not click the `ImageButton` but click the row).

I want them to cover 75% of the button area. But where as some images cover less area, some are too big to fit into the imageButton. How to programatically resize and show them?
