 1. Right click on &quot;My Computer&quot; -&gt; Properties -&gt; Advanced -&gt;
    Environment Variables
 2. Add a new environment variable, called `CYGWIN_HOME` and set its value to `C:\cygwin`
 3. Edit the PATH environment variable and add `%CYGWIN_HOME%\bin` to it (usually separated by a &#39;;&#39;).
 4. Just click okay, exit any command prompts or bash shells (over cygwin) you may have open, and open it again - it&#39;ll work!

Assumption - this assumes that you have installed cygwin at `C:\cygwin`. If you&#39;ve kept it someplace else, please modify the above accordingly. 

Check the cygwin.bat file, it should have something like:

    set PATH=C:\cygwin\bin;C:\cygwin;%PATH%
    ...etc
    bash --login -i

(you don&#39;t really need c:\cygwin in there, but I have some additional scripts/bat files there; the key thing is c:\cygwin\bin)

In C# I can do:

    12341.4.ToString(&quot;##,#0.00&quot;)

and the result is 12,345.40

Is there a Pythonic and efficient way to check whether a Numpy array contains at least one instance of a given row?  By &quot;efficient&quot; I mean it terminates upon finding the first matching row rather than iterating over the entire array even if a result has already been found.

With Python arrays this can be accomplished very cleanly with `if row in array:`, but this does not work as I would expect for Numpy arrays, as illustrated below.

With Python arrays:

    &gt;&gt;&gt; a = [[1,2],[10,20],[100,200]]
    &gt;&gt;&gt; [1,2] in a
    True
    &gt;&gt;&gt; [1,20] in a
    False

but Numpy arrays give different and rather odd-looking results. (The `__contains__` method of `ndarray` seems to be undocumented.)

    &gt;&gt;&gt; a = np.array([[1,2],[10,20],[100,200]])
    &gt;&gt;&gt; np.array([1,2]) in a
    True
    &gt;&gt;&gt; np.array([1,20]) in a
    True
    &gt;&gt;&gt; np.array([1,42]) in a

If you are a linux enthusiast and really miss those greps and sed/awks on the windows box, you&#39;ve probably installed [cygwin][1]. You tried running it either by double-clicking the cygwin icon on your desktop or the `cygwin.bat` file in your `C:\cygwin` directory and got the `bash-3.X$` prompt. However, although the `pwd` or `cd` commands work, if you try `ls`, it says:`ls: command not found`.

I&#39;m a newbie and I needed the pySerial and feedparser module for my projects. I&#39;m running Mountain lion.

I followed the following tutorial so that I could upgrade to python 2.7.3 and then use the above mentioned modules.

I followed this tutorial till I installed pip. Instead of installing Virtualenv. I used the following commands to install pySerial and feedparser

    $ pip install pySerial
    Requirement already satisfied (use --upgrade to upgrade): pySerial in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages
    Cleaning up...

I assumed that this was already present and checked it. Python seems to be importing this just fine. My python version has been upgraded to 2.7.3 btw since I installed it using homebrew as mentioned in the tutorial.


Then I tried installing feedparser

    $ pip install feedparser
    Requirement already satisfied (use --upgrade to upgrade): feedparser in /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages
    Cleaning up...

Notice how its in the site-packages directory in the usr/local/lib.

All of my pip installs are being installed in that directory but python does not seem to be picking them up when i try importing them. 

How do I set the path so that python also looks there as well as core directory?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

but niether of them are in the same situation as I am. I don&#39;t understand why this is happening as i edited my bash_profile with the following

then installed homebrew and then installed python 2.7.3 through homebrew (2.7.3 is now currently running on my machine)

To generate the `.ssh` dir I use this command:

    ssh-keygen

But the `.ssh` directory is not created so when I use `cd ~/.ssh` I get this error:

Is there a step missing ? Should the `.ssh` dir be created when I use the `ssh-keygen` command?

Running a shell script through Cygwin on Windows

Git push hangs everytime I try to push to github. I am using Cygwin and Windows 7. Git functions fine locally tracking branches, providing status, setting global user.name and user.email and allowing commits. 

I&#39;m still new and learning.

I enter `git push` , `git push origin master` or `git push -u origin master` and I get nothing but a blank line requiring me to ctl-c to get the prompt back. 

`ssh-keygen -t rsa -C &quot;me@example.com&quot;` asks me for a file name and hangs

`git push heroku master` hangs

`$ git status` returns `On branch master nothing to commit, working directory clean`

`$ git pull` returns `Already up to date`

`$ git remote -v` returns:

    heroku  git@heroku.com:myherokusite.git (fetch)
     
    heroku  git@heroku.com:myherokusite.git (push) origin  
    
    https://github.com/gitusername/appname.git (fetch) origin  
    
    https://github.com/gitusername/appname.git (push)
    
    or the correct ssh remote settings are returned when trying this with ssh

**Updated:** Using the SSH url `git@github.com:gitusername/gitrepo.git` also hangs

`git remote set-url origin https://github.com/gitusername/appname.git` is correct


**Updated:** I can see the git processes running in Windows Task Manager while it hangs.

switching between https and ssh and it hangs

Uninstalled git. Reinstalled from: https://code.google.com/p/msysgit/downloads/list 

Uninstalled git. Installed Cygwin&#39;s git

Uninstalled git. Installed Github for Windows GUI app and it I WAS able to push. But this app has limited functionality, forces me out of my Cygwin window into another app which then forces me into a Windows command prompt for complete functionality which I thought I had escaped by using Cygwin. 

Spent many, many hours trying to resolve this, it worked faultlessly before, thanks.

**UPDATE 4/2014:** I rebuilt my entire machine Win 7, Cygwin etc and all is now working fine

Git push hangs when pushing to Github?

I ran a program on Windows 7 that was compiled under Cygwin and passed &quot;NUL&quot; as an output file name. Instead of suppressing output it actually created a file named &quot;NUL&quot; in the current directory. (Apparently it expects &quot;/dev/null&quot;, even on Windows.) Now I&#39;m stuck with this &quot;NUL&quot; file that I cannot delete!

I&#39;ve already tried:

 - Windows Explorer - error: &quot;Invalid MS-DOS function&quot; (yes, that is seriously what it says!)
 - Command prompt using &quot;del NUL&quot; - error: &quot;The filename, directory name, or volume
   label syntax is incorrect.&quot;
 - Deleting the entire directory - same deal as just deleting the file
 - `remove()` in a C program - also fails

How can I get rid of these NUL files (I have several by now), short of installing the full Cygwin environment and compiling a C program under Cygwin to do it?

I thought I understood *nix pipes until now... I have an executable called `studio` which symlinks to my install of `Android Studio` and I had assumed I could get the linked-to location with 

    which studio | ls -l

But that doesn&#39;t work. What it gives me is equivalent to having just run `ls -l` in the current directory.

If I run `which studio`, I get `/home/me/bin/studio`. And if I run `ls -l /home/me/bin/studio` I get the expected output showing me the symlink location.
