After creating your `QVBoxLayout` in Qt Designer, right-click on the background of your widget/dialog/window (not the `QVBoxLayout`, but the parent widget) and select *Lay Out -&gt; Lay Out in a Grid* from the bottom of the context-menu. The `QVBoxLayout` should now stretch to fit the window and will resize automatically when the entire window is resized.

According to the [documentation](http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/designer-layouts.html), there needs to be a top level layout set.

&gt; A top level layout is necessary to ensure that your widgets will resize correctly when its window is resized. To check if you have set a top level layout, preview your widget and attempt to resize the window by dragging the size grip.

You can set one by clearing the selection and right clicking on the form itself and choosing one of the layouts available in the context menu.

We have a `QCheckBox` object, when user checks it or removes check we want to call a function so we connect our function to `stateChanged  ( int state )` signal. EDIT: Okay people, I&#39;m not meaning this question as a rip on Qt -- too many Qt fanboys are treating it as if it is. I don&#39;t want to discuss the merits of the fact that Qt came up with this preprocessing tool. I understand why the tool is there, and I understand why there are large parts of Qt&#39;s design that are built upon the idea of preprocessing.

I&#39;ve never used Qt, ergo I am in no position to rip on it. But I would much rather pay in writing a small amount of boilerplate myself and not depend on ripping apart my entire build process. I won&#39;t use Flex and Bison in my current project for the same reason; if I won&#39;t use those tools, I&#39;m definitely not going to use another kind of preprocessing.

I&#39;m trying to implement a &lt;code&gt;SlidingDrawer&lt;/code&gt; that will occupy the full screen width, but whose height is determined dynamically by its contents: in other words, standard &lt;code&gt;fill_parent&lt;/code&gt; layout behaviour for the width and &lt;code&gt;wrap_content&lt;/code&gt; for the height. That&#39;s exactly how I&#39;ve specified it in the layout XML (see below) but the sliding drawer always opens to the full screen height. The height of my content varies, but typically it&#39;s only about half the screen height, so I end up with a big gap underneath it. What I&#39;d like is for the content to sit neatly on the bottom of the screen.

I&#39;ve tried everything I can think of to fix it but nothing&#39;s worked so far. If I set the &lt;code&gt;SlidingDrawer&lt;/code&gt;&#39;s &lt;code&gt;layout_height&lt;/code&gt; to a specific value (e.g. &lt;code&gt;160dip&lt;/code&gt;) it works, but that&#39;s not what I need: it has to be dynamic. Of course I&#39;ve made sure all the child elements have their height set to &lt;code&gt;wrap_content&lt;/code&gt; too.

The documentation on SlidingDrawer is a bit vague on this and I haven&#39;t been able to find any examples that do what I&#39;m after either. If anyone can see where I&#39;m going wrong I&#39;d really appreciate your help!

How to make my layout able to scroll down?

I am following the standard example of how to add a `RatingBar`. To control the number of stars I tried to use `android:numStars=&quot;5&quot;`. The problem is that the number of stars doesn&#39;t seem to do anything at all. In portrait-layout I get 6 stars and when I flip the phone I get about 10 stars. I tried to set the number of stars in my Activity (`myBar.setNumStars(5)`) that loads the xml but there was no success with that option either. 

So my question is how do I define my layout so that it will only show five stars? Set `numStars` doesn&#39;t seem to work.

`Qt` has a flexible and powerful layout mechanism to handle view of desktop application&#39;s windows.

But it is so flexible, that it nearly cannot be understood, when something goes wrong and needs fine tuning. And so powerful, that it can beat anyone in their tries to overwhelm Qt&#39;s opinion of how form should look.

Understanding form layout mechanisms in Qt

I want to have a small `QFormLayout` that grows to fill its parent widget.

I created a new *.ui* file using the `QWidget` template in Qt Designer. I put a `QFormLayout` inside that &#39;window&#39;, then put some controls inside that `QFormLayout`.

This all works reasonably well, but the `QFormLayout` always stays at the size I set in Qt Designer. I would like the `QFormLayout` to fill its parent widget and grow/shrink with it.

How can I accomplish that?

I have seen references to all three of these applications on various parts of the Qt website but am completely unclear as to the exact differences between them and whether they are actually separate things or just different names for the same thing, or the name changed over time?
