I&#39;m trying to get self sizing `UICollectionViewCells` working with Auto Layout, but I can&#39;t seem to get the cells to size themselves to the content. I&#39;m having trouble understanding how the cell&#39;s size is updated from the contents of what&#39;s inside the cell&#39;s contentView.
 
Here&#39;s the setup I&#39;ve tried:

 - Custom `UICollectionViewCell` with a `UITextView` in its contentView.
 - Scrolling for the `UITextView` is disabled.
 - The contentView&#39;s horizontal constraint is: &quot;H:|[_textView(320)]&quot;, i.e. the `UITextView` is pinned to the left of the cell with an explicit width of 320.
 - The contentView&#39;s vertical constraint is: &quot;V:|-0-[_textView]&quot;, i.e. the `UITextView` pinned to the top of the cell.
 - The `UITextView` has a height constraint set to a constant which the `UITextView` reports will fit the text.

Here&#39;s what it looks like with the cell background set to red, and the `UITextView` background set to Blue:

UICollectionView Self Sizing Cells with Auto Layout

I&#39;m using Xcode 6 Beta 3, iOS 8 SDK. Build Target iOS 7.0 using Swift. Please refer to my problem step by step with screenshots below.
 
I have a UICollectionView in Storyboard. 1 Prototype UICollectionViewCell which contains 1 label in the centre (no autoresizing rule). Purple background was to mark a contentView that is generated in runtime by the Cell I guess. That view will be resized properly base on my UICollectionViewLayoutDelegate eventually, but not on iOS 7. Notice that I&#39;m using Xcode 6 and the problem only happens on iOS 7.

When I build the app on iOS 8. Everything is okay.

**Note: Purple is the *contentView*, Blue is my UIButton with rounded corner.**

However, on iOS 7, all the subViews inside the Cell suddenly shrink to the frame of (0,0,50,50) and never conforms to my Autoresizing rule anymore.

I assume this is a bug in iOS 8 SDK or Swift or maybe Xcode?

**Update 1:** This problem still exists in the official Xcode 6.0.1 ! The best work around is like what KoCMoHaBTa suggested below by setting the frame in cellForItem of the cell (You have to subclass your cell though). It turned out that this is a incompatibility between iOS 8 SDK and iOS 7 (check ecotax&#39;s answer below quoted from Apple).

Autoresizing issue of UICollectionViewCell contentView&#39;s frame in Storyboard prototype cell (Xcode 6, iOS 8 SDK) happens when running on iOS 7 only

I&#39;m trying to add `UICollectionView` to `ViewController`, and I need to have 3 cells &#39;per row&#39; without blank space between cells (it should look like a grid). Cell width should be one third of screen size, so I thought that the `layout.item` width should be the same. But then I get this:

If I reduce that size (by *7* or *8 pixels* e.g.), it&#39;s better, but the  third cell in row is not completely visible, and I still have that blank space (top &amp; bottom, and left &amp; right) .

How to set cell spacing and UICollectionView - UICollectionViewFlowLayout size ratio?

I have created a custom UICollectionViewCell in Interface Builder, binded views on it to the class, and then when I want to use and set a string to the label on the string, tha label has a nil value.

Why is UICollectionViewCell&#39;s outlet nil?

So I already went through various posts on adding 2nd view for adding shadow, but I still cannot get it to work if I want to add it in `UICollectionViewCell`. I subclassed `UICollectionViewCell`, and here is my code where I add various UI elements to the cell&#39;s content view and adding shadow to the layer:

I have a UICollectionView, that loads cells from reusable cell, which contains label. An array provides content for that label. I can resize label width depending on content width easily with sizeToFit. But I cannot make cell to fit label.

Dynamic cell width of UICollectionView depending on label width

I just started learning about UICollectionViews. I&#39;m wondering if anyone knows how to specify the number of columns in a collectionview. The default is set to 3 (iPhone/portrait). I&#39;ve looked at the documentation and can&#39;t seem to find a concise answer.

I set the size of each cell through the

When switching from portrait to landscape, I would like to adjust the size of each cell to completely fit the size of the CollectionView, without leaving padding space between cells.

Questions:

1) How to change the size of a cell after a rotation event?

2) And, even better, how to make the layout where the cells always fit the entire size of the screen?

That is what I get and what I do

the behavior of the UICollectionViewFlowLayout is not defined, because the cell width is greater than collectionView width

I have a `UICollectionView` with a FLowLayout. It will work as I expect most of the time, but every now and then one of the cells does not wrap properly. For example, the the cell that should be on in the first &quot;column&quot; of the third row if actually trailing in the second row and there is just an empty space where it should be (see diagram below). All you can see of this rouge cell is the left hand side (the rest is cut off) and the place it should be is empty.

This does not happen consistently; it is not always the same row. Once it has happened, I can scroll up and then back and the cell will have fixed itself. Or, when I press the cell (which takes me to the next view via a push) and then pop back, I will see the cell in the incorrect position and then it will jump to the correct position.

The scroll speed seems to make it easier to reproduce the problem. When I scroll slowly, I can still see the cell in the wrong position every now and then, but then it will jump to the correct position straight away.

The problem started when I added the sections insets. Previously, I had the cells almost flush against the collection bounds (little, or no insets) and I did not notice the problem. But this meant the right and left of the collection view was empty. Ie, could not scroll. Also, the scroll bar was not flush to the right.

I can make the problem happen on both Simulator and on an iPad 3.

I guess the problem is happening because of the left and right section insets... But if the value is wrong, then I would expect the behavior to be consistent. I wonder if this might be a bug with Apple? Or perhaps this is due to a build up of the insets or something similar.

UICollectionView flowLayout not wrapping cells correctly

When I try to put `UICollectionCell` to `UICollectionView` in Interface Builder I can&#39;t put it with unknown reasons. The cell is going to the tools bar without adding to `UICollectionView`

I am using:

 - iOS SDK 6.0
 - XCode 4.5.1
 - I don&#39;t use Storyboard


UICollectionView adding UICollectionCell

I have a `UICollectionView` with a `segmented control` to switch between data. But how do I change the `UICollectionViewCell` size properties **programmatically** ? then I can custom each style appropriately for each data type. 

**For example** change the width to 520 points and height to 100. I am new to iOS development and am experienced with CSS :/

I know how to do it in Xcode (obviously) but do not know the correct methods to change it in swift. Any ideas or feedback is much appreciated (Y)

How to change UICollectionViewCell size programmatically in Swift?

**What&#39;s happening**

Currently I have an application that uses two `UICollectionViews` inside a `UITableView`. This way I create a Pulse News look like application. My problem with this is that sometimes the 6th and 11th row disappears completely, leaving a blank space where it should be the cell. I wouldn&#39;t actually mind, if all the cells were like this (and this way I could assume that I wasn&#39;t doing things correctly), but the thing is, is just happening with those specific ones.

**My theory**

The 6th and 11th rows are the ones that appears when I start scrolling, so by default I am able to see 5 cells, and when I do the first horizontal scrolling the 6th comes up (blank space sometimes). 

**What I have**

The only thing I am doing at the moment is this:

On the `viewDidLoad`. And on the creation of the cell:

So on my understating nothing fancy going on here. I though there was something wrong on the data source (a dummy JSON file), but sometimes it works ok and the cell shows, so I guess from that part is ok. 

So my &quot;question&quot;: Does anyone knows what&#39;s going on? I don&#39;t really like to say that it&#39;s a bug from iOS, but I can&#39;t think of anything else.

The amazing part is that this method

    -(UICollectionViewCell *)collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView cellForItemAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath;

Is going from `indexPath` [0,4] to [0,6] without calculating the [0,5]. First time I actually see this happening in iOS.

I have switched the way I am creating the cells, and instead of dequeuing I am using the old way:


    NSArray *nib = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:CELL_NIB_NAME owner:self options:nil];
    MyCell *cell = (MyCell *)[nib objectAtIndex:0];

Still the same sad result.


UICollectionView&#39;s cell disappearing

I use a custom CollectionViewCell in my Storyboard.
When I start the app I get this message:

I have horizontal scrolling and only one  big `cell` is visible (partially two other `cell`s on the sides are visible as well).
I need to delete `cell` located in the center (means  - current `cell`) without touching it.

Only pressing &quot;Trash&quot; button and confirm Delete. But now it delete only first `cell`s.

how to get indexPath for cell which is located in the center of UICollectionView

I am attempting to update a single cell inside a `UICollectionView`, specifically I am just trying to update an image in that specific cell detonated by `cell.imageView`. `[self.collectionView reloadData]` is not really an option because it makes the whole collection view flash. `[self.collectionView beginUpdates]` is not a thing in a `UICollectionView`it seems. 

I understand I may be able to use:

    [self.collectionView performBatchUpdates:^{
        //do something
    } completion:nil];

I am not exactly sure what to put inside a completion block to update that certain cell&#39;s `imageView`. This is all being done inside of `didSelectItemAtIndexPath`.Also I am not using `NSFetchedResultsController `. Any ideas?

UICollectionView update a single cell

This isn&#39;t so much a question as an explanation of how to solve this problem.

The first thing to realize is that the `UICollectionView` does inherit from a `UIScrollView` - so doing a standard lookup with a scroll view&#39;s content is the best solution.

Here&#39;s the problem I was addressing:

I had a `UICollectionView` that had differing items in each cell - along with differing types of cells.  I need the selection of a cell to cause an effect of the image in the cell to appear to expand and take over the whole screen.  How I did the expansion is for another post.

The challenge was getting the cell&#39;s position on the screen so that the animating section would have a reference point from where to start.

So, to facilitate getting this information - consider the following code:

First note:  

    UICollectionView *picturesCollectionView;
    DrawingCell cell; // -&gt; instanceof UICollectionViewCell with custom items.

Getting the screen location of a cell from a UICollectionView

I have a UICollectionView which is about the size of the screen. The UICollectionViewCells that it displays are the same size as the collectionView.  Each cell has a UIImage which  is the size of the cell.  The CollectionView has paging enabled so essentially it is a full screen photo slideshow that the user can swipe through. 

The problem is that  
`-(void)collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView didSelectItemAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath` is only being called if the user taps with two fingers on a cell or long presses with one finger and then releases.  It does not seem to have the default behaviour of single tap selection.  I have not made any changes to the CollectionView gesture recognizer so am having trouble finding a solution to this problem.

Can i empty those spaces? I want different height &amp; width for every cell

Dynamic size UICollectionView cell

I have a simple UICollectionView with cells that have a single UITextView. The UITextView is constrained to the edges of the cell, so they should stay the same size as the cell size.

The problem I&#39;m having is that for some reason these constraints are not working when I specify the cell size via collectionView:layout:sizeForItemAtIndexPath:.

I have the cell size set to 320x50 in the Storyboard. If I return a size with 2 times the height of the cell size with sizeForItemAtIndexPath:, the UITextView stays the same height despite the constraints I set. I am using Xcode 6 GM.

My view controller code is:

Those logs in viewDidAppear: give me an output of:
&lt;br&gt;
100.00000
&lt;br&gt;
50.00000
&lt;br&gt;
As you can see, the UITextView height doesn&#39;t change with the cell height.

I know using auto layout constraints works fine with UITableViewCells and dynamic resizing. I have no idea why it&#39;s not working in this case. Does anyone have any ideas?

Auto Layout in UICollectionViewCell not working

I have collectionview inside tableview cell and I use nib for my collection view cell (in which I use autolayout for my imageview and labels and it is on Freeform mode).  I&#39;m setting cell size in tableviewcell class which is handling the delegate for collectionview inside it by this method:

     func collectionView(_ collectionView: UICollectionView, layout collectionViewLayout: UICollectionViewLayout, sizeForItemAt indexPath: IndexPath) -&gt; CGSize {
            return CGSize(width: 200, height :150)        
        }

It always works but after Xcode 11 it doesn&#39;t.
