I am coming from riak and redis where I never had an issue with this services starting, or to interact.

This is a pervasive problem with mongo and am rather clueless.  Restarting does not help.I am new to mongo.

mongo - couldn&#39;t connect to server 127.0.0.1:27017

I&#39;m trying to use the sort feature when querying my mongoDB, but it is failing.  The same query works in the MongoDB console but not here.  Code is as follows:

I found a link elsewhere that says I need to place a &#39;u&#39; infront of the key if using pymongo, but that didn&#39;t work either.  Anyone else get this to work or is this a bug.

How to sort mongodb with pymongo

I am trying to perform a regex query using PyMongo against a MongoDB server. The document structure is as follows

I want to get all the files that match the pattern *File. I tried doing this as such

    db.collectionName.find({&#39;files&#39;:&#39;/^File/&#39;})

Yet I get nothing back. Am I missing something, because according to the MongoDB docs this should be possible? If I perform the query in the Mongo console it works fine, does this mean the API doesn&#39;t support it or am I just using it incorrectly?

With PyMongo, when I try to retrieve objects sorted by their &#39;number&#39; and &#39;date&#39; fields like this:

I am having trouble using json.loads to convert to a dict object and I can&#39;t figure out what I&#39;m doing wrong.The exact error I get running this is 

    ValueError: Expecting property name: line 1 column 2 (char 1)

How do I update a Mongo document after inserting it?

I am using pymongo to query for all items in a region (actually it is to query for all venues in a region on a map). I used `db.command(SON())` before to search in a spherical region, which can return me a dictionary and in the dictionary there is a key called `results` which contains the venues. Now I need to search in a square area and I am suggested to use `db.places.find`, however, this returns me a `pymongo.cursor.Cursor` class and I have no idea how to extract the venue results from it. 

Does anyone know whether I should convert the cursor into a dict and extract the results out, or use another method to query for items in a square region?
BTW, db is pymongo.database.Database class

How to convert a pymongo.cursor.Cursor into a dict?

I have a document:

and would like to add a new document to the `profile_set` set if the name doesn&#39;t already exist (regardless of the option).

So in this example if I tried to add:

`{&#39;name&#39; : &#39;matt&#39;, &#39;options&#39; : 0}` 

it should add it, but adding

`{&#39;name&#39; : &#39;nick&#39;, &#39;options&#39; : 2}` 

should do nothing because a document already exists with name `nick` even though the `option` is different. 

Mongo seems to match against the whole element and I end up with to check if it&#39;s the same and I end up with


    profile_set containing [{&#39;name&#39; : &#39;nick&#39;, &#39;options&#39; : 0}, {&#39;name&#39; : &#39;nick&#39;, &#39;options&#39; : 2}]

Is there a way to do this with `$addToSet` or do I have to push another command?

I want to get the string character from an ObjectId object. I use pymongo.

I don&#39;t understand the difference between `create_index` and `ensure_index` in pymongo. On the [MongoDB indexes page](http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/core/indexes/), it says

Query Mongodb on month, day, year... of a datetime

In particular, I am currently trying to check if a connection to a client is valid using the following function:

    def mongodb_connect(client_uri):
        try:
            return pymongo.MongoClient(client_uri)
        except pymongo.errors.ConnectionFailure:
             print &quot;Failed to connect to server {}&quot;.format(client_uri)


I then use this function like this:

    def bucket_summary(self):
        client_uri = &quot;some_client_uri&quot;
        client = mongodb_connect(client_uri)
        db = client[tenant_id]
        ttb = db.timebucket.count() # If I use an invalid URI it hangs here

Is there a way to catch and throw an exception at the last line if an invalid URI is given? I initially thought that&#39;s what the ConnectionFailure was for (so this could be caught when connecting) but I was wrong.

If I run the program with an invalid URI, which fails to run, issuing a KeyboardInterrupt yields:

How do you check if the client for a MongoDB instance is valid?

Here is my data structure.

&quot;lastname&quot; is sometimes present and sometimes not and sometime is &quot;&quot;.

I want to get all rows that have lastname not equal to &quot;&quot;. But this does not work. It returns both the rows when lastname is &quot;&quot; and when lastname is not present at all. in the example above I want to only get the David node.

    db.collection.find( {&quot;lastname&quot;: {&quot;$ne&quot;: &quot;&quot;}} )
