I&#39;m getting a weird push message captured by my push service:

    Bundle[{CMD=RST_FULL, from=google.com/iid, android.support.content.wakelockid=1}]

Just started to happen yesterday and I can&#39;t really spot which code change is to blame for this. Has anyone seen this message before and maybe knows where is it coming from and why?

Weird push message received on app start

I&#39;m using push notifications on google cloud, however for some reason i cant receive push notifications on the emulator. 

The same application does receive notifications when i test it on a real device however.

Has anyone else encountered this or found solutions to it? the emulated device has net access and is the same android version as the real one so i cant think of any reason it shouldn&#39;t work.

How to **refresh** activity on **receiving gcm push notification** if my app is **open**. I have an activity which contains listview filled with data from the server. I want to refresh my activity (***here adding one more item to listview***) , if I receive gcm push notification(which also contains some data).   

 - One alternative is to add ***timer*** that periodically do server requests and update the list adapter data but I don&#39;t want these because it will take much resources.  
 - Do I need to add ***broadcast receiver*** which will trigger on receiving gcm push which further request for newer server data and update my activity UI? 
  
Dear commentors, please read the question carefully, I only need to **refresh the list** (if app is open and that particular activity is open) **else no need for same**.

GCM with PHP (Google Cloud Messaging)

I have been reading for past few hours about [Push Notification API][1] and [Web Notification API][2]. I also discovered that Google &amp; Apple gives push notification service for free via GCM and APNS respectively. 

I am trying to understand if we can implement push notification to browsers using Desktop Notification, which I believe is what Web Notification API does. I saw a google documentation on how this can be done for Chrome [here][3] &amp; [here][4].

Now what am still not able to understand is:

 1. Can we use GCM/APNS to send push notification to all Web Browsers including Firefox &amp; Safari?
 2. If not via GCM can we have our own back-end to do the same?

I believe all these answered in one answer can help a lot of people who are having similar confusions.

I am using Google notifications in my app, and until now I have done below in the manifest:

It worked perfectly until I updated my Nexus 7 to Android 5.0.  
Now when I try to install the app in this device with Eclipse, I get this error:

I don&#39;t understand what is wrong? It was working perfectly until Android 5.0.  
I know that I am using `C2D_MESSAGE` in two lines, `permission` and `uses-permission` but I have copied that code from the original Google GCM guide, so it must be fine.

So this morning I started updating to the latest version of my project libraries.

I&#39;m trying to update GCM to the latest version 9.2.0, but I get this error:

&gt; Please fix the version conflict either by updating the version of the google-services plugin (information about the latest version is available at https://bintray.com/android/android-tools/com.google.gms.google-services/) or updating the version of com.google.android.gms to 9.0.0.

This is how I have my code:

**EDIT**

Apparently you have to apply your GSM plugin at the bottom of your app/build.gradle file. Else, version 9.2.0 will cause conflict in your project.

For reference, this is how my app/build.gradle file looks like now:

I am trying to figure out how the new version of GCM or Firebase Cloud Messaging works so I moved one of my projects to the new Firebase console, If I did not have the API KEY or I want to create a new one... where can I do it?

Where can I find the API KEY for Firebase Cloud Messaging?

I am using a build scheme for prod and one for staging (with 2 different bundle identifiers) and I am trying to use a separate GoogleService-Info.plist for each scheme.
Is there any way to manually select the plist file to use when initialising GCM (and goole login)? Or is its possible to avoid using the plist and do the setup manually?

Firebase allows us to send notification messages via our own application by making `POST` request.

[This tutorial, gives to us instructions how to make this request][1]. However, there is `Authorization` field in header where I must to place my own Server key.

Where I can get this Server key? There are no instructions for this.

Firebase messaging, where to get Server Key?

I work on adding Google Analytics and GCM services to my current app. 
On the guide for both services implementation, google asks developer to generate a json file: google-services.json and put it under root directory of the app.

I found that even if I delete this json file from my app, the services still works.

Just want to know for sure, what is this file really for? What its usage and how does it work?

I&#39;m implementing the new Google Cloud Messaging following the guides from the Google Developers page [here][3]

I&#39;ve successfully run and test it. But my problem now is I have different product flavors with different applicationId/packageName and different Google Cloud Messaging Project Id. The `google-services.json` have to be put at the `/app/google-services.json` not the flavors folder.

Is there any way to make the `google-services.json` config different for many flavors?

I am using `AWS` resources for my android project, I am planning to add push notification service for my project with `AWS SNS`.there are few questions bothering me much. I did not find any questions regarding these, except one or two but with unclear explanations.

1.Does `AWS` support `FCM`? `SNS` work with `GCM`. But Google recommends to use FCM instead of `GCM`. I did not find `AWS` supporting `FCM`.

2.Do `AWS` store messages (or data) into their databases even after sending push notifications?

3.I tried putting FCM api key in SNS application platform, it is showing invalid parameters why?

Consider the following:

1. Digging into reflector shows there is oodles of validation and parsing code that runs when adding a a new header value. Why is all this necessary? Shouldn&#39;t this client just be getting out of our way?

I am implementing Google Cloud Messaging in my application. Server code is not ready yet and in my environment due to some firewall restrictions I can not deploy a test sever for push notification. What I am looking for is a online server which would send some test notifications to my device to test my client implementation.

Android: Test Push Notification online (Google Cloud Messaging)

I try to migrate to `GCM` and I have an issue with the `SENDER_ID` I need to provide. I use the demo project from google. In this project I need, if I understand this well, to provide a `SENDER_ID` to the application in the CommonUtilities.java file. 

The SENDER_ID I provided is the API key I registered on https://code.google.com/apis/console/ and has this form: `AIzaSyAxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxxxxxnoGZw` (total 40 chars).

Using this string as `SENDER_ID` I get on &quot;BroadcastReceiver mHandleMessageReceiver&quot; an error message: **From GCM: error (INVALID_SENDER).**.

_Where is the mistake? The string I provide is not the `SENDER_ID`?_

Since I updated to Android SDK Tools 25.1.6 and Android Support Repository 32.0.0 (this morning), I got the following error, I didn&#39;t change anything in my code and it is still working on my colleague computer (Android SDK Tools 25.1.1 + Android Support Repository 30.0.0).

My device receive Google Play Services 9.0 (yesterday was 8.4.x). Now it doesn&#39;t crash anymore, but complain about module descriptor 

     Failed to load module descriptor class: Didn&#39;t find class &quot;com.google.android.gms.dynamite.descriptors.com.google.firebase.auth.ModuleDescriptor&quot;
     Firebase API initialization failure.

Does anyone has a similar error, and how to fix it ?

`./gradlew -q app:dependencies --configuration compile` helps you to identify what dependencies include SDK 24.x

Main issue is some library import the latest support library using `+` sign instead of a version. This cause the issue, by including the latest available version.

So avoid `+` sign in dependencies ;)


IncompatibleClassChangeError after updating to Android Build Tools 25.1.6 GCM / FCM

I am having an issue with FireBase Cloud Messaging in which I get the Token from the device and send the notification test through the Google Firebase notification console however, the notification is never logged nor pushed to the android virtual device.  The documentation for FCM is almost exactly the code that I have below and little else in the way of what else you would have to do to get push notifications working with firebase.  I have gone through all of the setup information (build.gradle additions, Installing google play services, etc...) as specified in the documentation but still do not have messages generating.  I do receive a one-time error immediately after pushing the notification that states &quot;I/FA: Tag Manager is not found and thus will not be used&quot; but that is the only data that is output and I did not find anything related to Tag Manager requirements and FCM on the googles.  What is wrong with the code that I am not receiving my push notifications to the logcat or the device? Please let me know any further information that would be helpful.

In the docs on Google Cloud Messaging, it states:

I register my device using the following code:

    GoogleCloudMessaging gcm = GoogleCloudMessaging.getInstance(context);
    String regID = gcm.register(senderID);

The GoogleCloudMessaging class encapsulates the registration process. So how am I suppose to handle com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTRATION since handling that is done internally by the GoogleCloudMessaging class?

I&#39;m trying to create a push service for my Android app, and I follow Google GCM&#39;s documentation and example for this matter:

I can register/unregister my Android app. From my server side, I can see that I have one subscription registered, but when I try to send a message from server to my Android app I always get following error:

For my Android app, I use SENDER_ID = 200000000001.

And for my server side as Google says I use API_KEY = AIzxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxXxxXxxXxxxXXXXXxxxxs

AWS SDK for PHP: Error retrieving credentials from the instance profile metadata server

I am trying to use new Google Cloud Messaging system but I have some problems.

I read Getting Started document and reviewed demo app; after that I applied requirements to my application then I created a new virtual device with API 16.

But when I try to register my device to GCM, it fails because of this line:

I had added gcm.jar to my class path; I don&#39;t know what is wrong.


com.google.android.gsf package couldn&#39;t be found

I&#39;m trying Firebase-Notification API the service is worked perfect when i send downstream message from console to app, but how to send message to topic registered users ? 

i did in android side 

    FirebaseMessaging.getInstance().subscribeToTopic(&quot;TopicName&quot;);

but when i try send downstream message from console to topic it&#39;s says 

    This project does not have any topics


EDIT :
i figured  out that after mapping the topic it&#39;s take up to 1 day to show up in Firebase Console  



How To Create Topic in FCM Notifications

In my android application, i want to set Notification icons dynamically which will be loaded from URL. For that, i have used `setLargeIcon` property of NotificationBuilder in `receiver`.I reffered many link and tried various solutions but couldn&#39;t get desired output. Though i downloaded that image from url and setting that bitmap in notification, it is not being displayed. Instead it displays the `setSmallIcon` image as large icon. I don&#39;t know where i am going wrong. Here i am posting my code. Please help me to solve this issue. Thank you.

Load image from url in notification Android

I&#39;m developing a chat system for web, Android and iOS. Doing my research I&#39;ve found differences on how GCM and APNS handle the Push Notifications.

If I send a Push Notification to a Android Device through the GCM, the device its able to decide if it notifies the user about it, or if its not necesary, it doesnt tell the user. It could be just an update of data that the user doesn&#39;t need to be notified. On the other hand, if I send a Push Notification to an iOS Device through APNS, the device is not able to decide whether to show or not the notification, the notification must be shown. Also, when an iOS Device receives the notification, the notification data must contain the string that is going to be shown to the user. On Android, the device can generate that string.

So, I wanted to create a system that works the same way for both iOS and Android, and also for the website (API based). Thats when I found Socket.io. Socket.io gives me the freedom to send data to the device (no matter if its iOS or Android) so that the device decides whether to show or not the changes made (could be an update of a user, a new message, an invitation, or many other &quot;events&quot;). But, doing my research I found some cons about using Socket.io. The Device must be connected to the socket so that the information flows between the client and the server, but a smartphone, in the real world, connects and disconnects all the time to different networks, and that breaks the socket connection. Also, by having the connection open, on the background, there is a ping pong between the server and the client to verify that the connection is still open, and that ends up consuming megas (In my country, we pay for every mega we use, we don&#39;t have a flat rate yet) and also batery life. I don&#39;t know for sure if that consumption is significant or not.

On the web side, it must work with Socket.io, so thats not a problem at all.

Finally, knowing the pros and cons of both alternatives, I found that I can mix both options and that might end up being my best option. For example, when the app is open it uses Socket.io and when is closed use the APNS or GCM (depending on the device OS). But, is it a good practice? Or will it be better to stick just with 1 solution instead of mixing both and why?

I have uploaded my application on google play but users have reported the following exception

**java.lang.RuntimeException: WakeLock under-locked C2DM_LIB**. This exception occurs when I try to release the `WakeLock`. Can anyone tell what could be the problem.

I have read that it is necessary to ask the user for some permissions at runtime for API 23 and up. For example: `android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION`.
Is it necessary (or even possible) to ask for a runtime permission for using GCM/push notifications at runtime if API is 23 or higher?

I have tried using the `requestPermissions` method at runtime, but it doesn&#39;t seem to work (nothing happens) when I use it with any GCM/push notification related permissions.

I have the following permissions in my Manifest for this purpose:

Push notifications (GCM) permission at runtime?

I am developing an Android app and I&#39;d like to start testing out push notifications.  From a code perspective, I&#39;m all set.  My current challenge is that I simply do not know how to get a Google Cloud Messaging API key from Google.

There are loads and loads of tutorials and videos online showing how this can be done in about 10 seconds but Google has recently updated it&#39;s [developer center][1] and none of the tutorials seem to apply any more.  The current process seems very cumbersome and not at all similar to what I&#39;ve seen online.

I realize that this barely passes as a programming question (if at all) but there is no way that I&#39;m going to even begin to be able to develop anything without an API key from Google.

Is someone able to point me in the right direction?
