Is is possible to rename an Azure Storage Blob using the Azure Storage API from a Web Role? The only solution I have at the moment is to copy the blob to a new blob with the correct name and delete the old one.

I have a blob container in Azure called `pictures` that has various folders within it (see snapshot below):

I&#39;m trying to delete the folders titled `users` and `uploads` shown in the snapshot, but I keep the error: `Failed to delete blob pictures/uploads/. Error: The specified blob does not exist.` Could anyone shed light on how I can delete those two folders? I haven&#39;t been able to uncover anything meaningful via Googling this issue.

How to delete a folder within an Azure blob container

I&#39;m creating an Azure Resource Manager template that instantiates multiple resources, including an Azure storage account and an Azure App Service with a Web App.

I&#39;d like to be able to capture the primary access key (or the full connection string, either way is fine) from the newly-created storage account, and use that as a value for one of the AppSettings for the Web App.

Is that possible?

I was playing with Windows Azure durable virtual machines. In the end, I deleted the virtual machine (successfully) and tried to delete the associated storage account.

The request to delete the storage account fails.

On the Preview Portal (manage.windowsazure.com) when I delete the storage account I get this error:

    Failed to delete Storage account &#39;portalvhdscwtwycpsxxxxx&#39;

    Details:

    Storage account portalvhdscwtwycpsxxxxx has 1 container(s) which have an active image and/or disk artifacts. Ensure those artifacts are removed from the image repository before deleting this storage account.

On the previous portal (windows.azure.com) I get this error:

    Submit Failed

    Storage account portalvhdscwtwycpsxxxxx has 1 container(s) which have an active image and/or disk artifacts. Ensure those artifacts are removed from the image repository before deleting this storage account.

Trying to delete the blob itself (a 30GB VHD) on Azure Storage Explorer I get this error:

    There is currently a lease on the blob and no lease ID was specified in the request.

So my assessment is that this blob is leased (by the previous, now deleted virtual machine) and I can&#39;t delete it unless I can get this lease ID.

The question is: how can I delete this blob and, consequently, the storage account?

Please correct my wrongs. From my reading on the topic so far, it appears to me that both, Azure Blob Storage and File Service offer the ability to store file(s) and folder(s) (I understand that blobs can store any binary object, but any serialized binary stream is just a file at the end of the day) in a hierarchical structure that mimics a file system.

Only the API to access them are slightly different in that the File Service allows you to query the source using Win32 File I/O like functions as well in addition to using the REST API.

Why would you choose one over another if you wanted your application to store some files owned by your application&#39;s users?

Azure Blob Storage vs. File Service

I am starting with Windows Azure. I have an Azure account with Microsoft and would like to use it from my Visual Studio project

In the Azure management portal, I can see the primary access key and secondary access key. However Visual Studio needs the account name and account key. 

Are these related or am I missing something? If so, how can I get my account name and account key from the Azure management portal?

Azure has `Storage accounts` and `Storage accounts (classic)` in the Azure Portal.

What are the differences between them? Is there any reason to migrate from a classic storage account to a new storage account?

So the scenario is the following:

I have a multiple instances of a web service that writes a blob of data to Azure Storage. I need to be able to group blobs into a container (or a virtual directory) depending on when it was received. Once in a while (every day at the worst) older blobs will get processed and then deleted. 

I have two options:

**Option 1**

I make one container called &quot;blobs&quot; (for example) and then store all the blogs into that container. Each blob will use a directory style name with the directory name being the time it was received (e.g. &quot;hr0min0/data.bin&quot;, &quot;hr0min0/data2.bin&quot;, &quot;hr0min30/data3.bin&quot;, &quot;hr1min45/data.bin&quot;, ... , &quot;hr23min0/dataN.bin&quot;, etc - a new directory every *X* minutes). The thing that processes these blobs will process hr0min0 blobs first, then hr0minX and so on (and the blobs are still being written when being processed). 

**Option 2**

I have many containers each with a name based on the arrival time (so first will be a container called blobs_hr0min0 then blobs_hr0minX, etc) and all the blobs in the container are those blobs that arrived at the named time. The thing that processes these blogs will process one container at a time.

So my question is, which option is better? Does option 2 give me better parallelization (since a containers can be in different servers) or is option 1 better because many containers can cause other unknown issues?

Is it better to have many small Azure storage blob containers (each with some blobs) or one really large container with tons of blobs?

With the new [Azure SQL Database tier structure][1], it seems important to monitor your database &quot;DTU&quot; usage to know whether to upgrade or downgrade to another tier.

When reading [Azure SQL Database Service Tiers and Performance Levels][2], it only talks about monitoring with CPU, Data and Log percentage usage.

But, when I add new metrics, I also have an **DTU percentage** option:

When should i use Sql Azure and when should I use table Storage? 
I was thinking , use table storage for transaction processing scenarios e.g. debit credit accounts kind of  scenario and use Sql Azure when data will not be used for transactional purposes e.g reporting.

As I recently started mingling around with `Windows Azure`, I&#39;ve came up to a situation where, which one to go for between the `Block Blob` &amp; `Page Blob`. I&#39;m currently in progress of uploading some text, csv or dat files to a blob storage and then do a `MapReduce` program for it using my C# program. Yes I&#39;ve gone through an [article][2]. 

But couldn&#39;t get a clear idea from them. To cut short, `Block Blob vs Page Blob`. Any help would be appreciated.

I have setup Sever, database and Firewall Setting (Rule) In windows Azure. I Have added The IP In firewall setting which is populating under the Windows Azure Firewall Tab.

When I am trying connect with Database using Manage from Azure Platform I am getting this error message.


**Firewall check failed. Cannot open server &#39;XXXXXXXXX&#39; requested by the login. Client with IP address &#39;XXXXXXXXX&#39; is not allowed to access the server.  To enable access, use the SQL Azure Portal or run sp_set_firewall_rule on the master database to create a firewall rule for this IP address or address range.  It may take up to five minutes for this change to take effect.**

And I am also Not able to connect via Sql Server Management Studio. Getting Same connection issue Error for My IP Address.

I am not using static IP but my IP haven&#39;t change during this process. I have tried lot Example but all are saying To add firewall rule That I had already done.

I have Added Firewall exception for port Number 1433.

But still this is not working Please let me know that what type of setting is still missing.

There is NO method ExecuteQueryAsync()..

I am missing something? Should we continue to use the ExecuteQuerySegmentedAsync still?
