I am developing a mobile application using Cordova and AngularJS. How do I restrict bootstrapping of AngluarJS before Cordova device ready. Basically I don&#39;t want to use any of AngularJS controllers before device ready.

The Angular docs seem to prefer factory over service. They even refer to &quot;service&quot; when they use factory which is even more confusing! http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/dev_guide.services.creating_services

**So when would one use service?**

Is there something that is only possible or much easier done with service?

Is there anything different that goes on behind the scenes? Performance/memory differences?

How do you manage configuration variables/constants for different environments?

My rest API is reachable on `localhost:7080/myapi/`, but my friend that works on the same code under Git version control has the API deployed on his Tomcat on `localhost:8099/hisapi/`.

In PHP I usually do this kind of stuff with a `config.username.xml` file, merging the basic configuration file (config.xml) with the local environment configuration file recognised by the name of the user. But I don&#39;t know how to manage this kind of thing in JavaScript?

**EDIT Jan 2016:** Since this still gets attention. Since asking this I&#39;ve completed a few AngularJS projects, and for those I mostly used `factory`, built up an object and returned the object at the end. My statements below are still true, however.

**EDIT :** I think I finally understand the main difference between the two, and I have a code example to demonstrate. I also think this question is different to the proposed duplicate. The duplicate says that service is not instantiable, but if you set it up as I demonstrated below, it actually is. A service can be set up to be exactly the same as a factory. I will also provide code that shows where factory fails over service, which no other answer seems to do.

If I set up VaderService like so (ie as a service):

    var module = angular.module(&#39;MyApp.services&#39;, []);

    module.service(&#39;VaderService&#39;, function() {
        this.speak = function (name) {
            return &#39;Join the dark side &#39; + name;
        }

Then in my controller I can do this:

With service, the VaderService injected in to the controller is instantiated, so I can just call VaderService.speak, however, if I change the VaderService to module.factory, *the code in the controller will no longer work*, and this is the main difference. With factory, the VaderService injected in to the controller is *not* instantiated, which is why you need to return an object when setting up a factory (see my example in the question).

However, you can set up a service in the exact same way as you can set up a factory (IE have it return an object) and **the service behaves the exact same as a factory**

Given this information, I see *no* reason to use factory over service, service can do everything factory can and more.

I’m looking for the best practice of how to bind to a service property in AngularJS.

I have worked through multiple examples to understand how to bind to properties in a service that is created using AngularJS.  

Below I have two examples of how to bind to properties in a service; they both work.  The first example uses basic bindings and the second example used $scope.$watch to bind to the service properties

Are either of these example preferred when binding to properties in a service or is there another option that I’m not aware of that would be recommended?

The premise of these examples is that the service should updated its properties “lastUpdated” and “calls” every 5 seconds.  Once the service properties are updated the view should reflect these changes.  Both these example work successfully; I wonder if there is a better way of doing it.

I’m aware that I can use $rootscope.$broadcast in the service and $root.$on in the controller, but in other examples that I’ve created that use $broadcast/$on the first broadcast is not captured by the controller, but additional calls that are broadcasted are triggered in the controller.  If you are aware of a way to solve $rootscope.$broadcast problem, please provide an answer.

But to restate what I mentioned earlier, I would like to know the best practice of how to bind to a service properties.

AngularJS : The correct way of binding to a service properties

I have an AngularJS service written and I would like to unit test it.

I can test the DI is working as such:

and rewriting the service definition as:

        this.somthing = function() {
            // Do something with the injected services
        };
    });
    
    angular.module(&#39;myServiceProvider&#39;, [&#39;fooServiceProvider&#39;, &#39;barServiceProvider&#39;]).
        factory(&#39;myService&#39;, function ($http, fooService, barService) { return new MyService($http, fooService, barService); })

But the latter seems to stop the service being created by the DI as all.

Does anybody know how I can mock the injected services for my unit tests?

I am using some data which is from a RESTful service in multiple pages.
So I am using angular factories for that. So, I required to get the data once from the server, and everytime I am getting the data with that defined service. Just like a global variables. Here is the sample:

Can someone point me in the right direction?  I have done my best to follow the documentation, and looking through SO most of the related issues are much more in depth, and more difficult for me to understand.  This is my first time creating a service.
